These ladies have yet to go wrong with any of the times we have used them. As a fellow business owner in the wedding industry it is amazing the talent these two sisters have. Deborah has made desserts for our clients for a few years now as well as made custom things for us. We have had clients request very unusual desserts and she has been able to make them with no problems at all. Her sister is an amazing artist and can sew custom dresses, do all types of alterations with dresses of all kinds and so mush more. She is excellent at her talents. Without a doubt when people ask me for either of these needs we send them to On A Whim. When you have time make sure you do check out their class schedule on their website. It is pretty extensive. And if you have a small party they can customize a class for you and your group.

On A Whim Studios is a fantastic addition to the Lake Oswego community. Since they opened in January, I find myself stopping by for a scone(best I’ve ever tasted) or a delicious and healthy wrap or salad a few times a week. Deborah and Suzanne, the owners, are always friendly and welcoming and the space is bright and cheerful. I have rented the venue for my company’s once a month evening workshop and attendees were able to purchase a yummy salad or cupcake and a glass of wine to enjoy during my presentation. For meetings at other locations, I’ve ordered mini-cupcakes that have been a big hit(they are not only tasty, but beautifully decorated!). I have taken 3 cooking classes so far and they were not only educational, but super fun as well. Deborah really knows the science behind cooking and I’ve taken what I’ve learned back to my own kitchen to improve my family recipes. Suzanne is a whiz at all things creative and although I haven’t taken one of her art or sewing classes, I’ve observed her teaching students with patience and care. I love the eclectic selection of reasonably priced collectibles and gift items.

I was very excited to see this business open in Lake Oswego because I was researching venues in my area with a private space for a team building activity. Thinking of what has been successful for my group in the past, I was looking for cooking or art classes. So it was fantastic to find a place that offers both. The business is run by two sisters who each specialize in one area. Deborah teaches the cooking classes and Suzanne runs the art studio. During my first visit, Deborah was busy in the kitchen whipping up holiday treats for a client but was warm and welcoming as she gave me the tour. I appreciate that she was very open to customizing our event which may focus on one area or possibly a mix of both depending on the needs of our group. I’ll update my review specifically to discuss the private event if/when it happens. Their website has a list of upcoming classes and events: Aside from the classes, they had gift items for sale so we were able to make a few purchases on our Christmas list. In particular, they had some really cute wine cozies(think decorative Christmas sweaters for your vino) and also scarves. It is a small area that is probably best for groups of 20 – 40. The kitchen space is relatively small and I was surprised it had an older electric range rather than a higher end commercial gas stove. But, I suppose it makes the space more homey rather than LO glam.
