Yay! I’m a fan. Quilting has become my new de-stresser and this place is dangerous. The first thing you will notice upon entering is the multitude of quilts they have hanging from the ceiling, all gorgeously designed and most, if not all, of which you can buy the kit to make it yourself. Fabrics are organized kind of by collection, kind of by type(solids are all in one place), and kind of by color/color scheme. As a beginner quilter, this is helpful if I am coming in to find a good collection of fabrics that work well together but it is hard to see all of the fabrics together by scanning the room. They also have an extensive collection year round of flannels. If you have never sewn with flannels, give it a shot! The fabric here is to die for and so comfy. I have made two quilts with the flannels from this shop and they are our favorite! Extensive selection of batting, books, patterns, notions, classes, fat quarters, and clearance fabrics. I would suggest the kits that use«New Beginnings» or «Hip to Be Square» if you are a beginner or looking for a fun project. Or! Just simply pick up the pattern and use their«Concierge Service.» I get overwhelmed by color choice and the staff will LITERALLY help you, not just mildly suggest things, but seriously take an interest in your project. It made jumping into the quilting world so much less intimidating. Prices are on par with quilt shops in the area, they do have sales and special offers so be sure to sign up for their newsletter. Notes: Mildly accessible, some tight spaces. Not much sitting area though they do have a back room which they may let people grab a chair from. Street parking in front of the store.

Oh The Pine Needle, I have been walking through your doors with my Mom for the last ten plus years. The first time I remember what when my Mom and I were working on a quilt that would accompany me to my freshman year in the dorms at OSU. At the time, and now you have a wonderful assortment of batik fabric. Most recently I was picking up fabric for my soon to be nephews baby quilt, with my Mom. She signed up for a class while we were there. There are a few things I can always count on: a friendly and knowledgeable staff, a significant assortment of modern and on-trend fabrics(lots of Ikat and chevron patterns right now), and reasonable prices. As an added bonus it is in beautiful downtown Lake Oswego, so there is a lot of other shopping and dining options nearby.

Cute shop in a darling town… be ready to spend money! You will find fabric — you will find classes — you will find very helpful employes. Things are spendy here but very high quality. There is not a time that I go in here that I don’t leave with a new idea or a bag under my arm. :)

Hands down the best customer service of any quilt shop I’ve ever been in — and I’ve been in a LOT of them! The employees and owners will bend over backwards to make sure you are happy. Very helpful staff when it comes to choosing fabrics for your quilt and helping you design items. Large eclectic selection of fabrics & notions from traditional to cutting edge — there’s something for everyone here and the selection is constantly refreshed. Large selection of classes for beginners thru experienced quilters/sewers. Lots of inspiration to be had here — great trunk shows, lots of samples, showcasing of talented quilters, all in a «home away from home» environment.

While visiting my daughter in Portland last week, we did our own Shop Hop. The«top shop» on our list is definitely the Pine Needle. The fabric in the shop is displayed beautifully with many samples. There is a wide selection of fabric. They produce a beautiful 4-color brochure featuring fabrics and quilts as well as their class schedule. The staff was very friendly and helpful and even offered to ship(for a minimal charge) my purchase to me when I mentioned it might not fit in the suitcase. If I lived in Portland, this would be MY quilt shop, and I’ll be sure to stop in again on my next visit to my daughter.

I don’t quilt but my Mom does so I brought her to this little shop & even I loved it. They have tons of really cool pieces of fabric put together as gift packages. Don’t just have the usual dancing bears fabric but chic, hip looking fabrics as well. They also have cute notebooks and books spread throughout the shop. Bonus round: Lucky Me boutique is right across the street & is full of awesome jewelry!
