This place was a God send, but I don’t think they are open any more at Carr for several years now. I wish they were. Or… someone please enlighten me.

Looks like Atomic Tamale is well and truly gone for good, at least from this location. I tried many times to go but they were always closed. Now they’re just gone.

Ah, the ever elusive Atomic Tamale. I’ve been hearing about this place since I arrived in Denver, years ago. So, we finally got down there to try it out. They have four different kinds of tamales: Green — Cheese and Jalapeño(Vegetarian) Red — Soy meat and Red Chile(Vegan) Bean and Potato with Red Chile(Vegan) Calabacita and Mexican Corn — zucchini, yellow squash, green and red peppers and corn.(Vegan) They have some tacos, as well, but my boyfriend and I just ordered a bunch of the tamales, so we could try them all. The tamales are 3 for $ 5, and they’re priced right. They aren’t huge, but you get a decent amount of food for $ 5. And, I find that in Denver, trying to find a decent amount of –vegan– food for $ 5 isn’t super common. So, we were happy with the price. Our favorite of the bunch was the green tamale, but all of them had standout flavors and were awesome. The Calabacita with all of the veggies inside had a really nice flavor. But, the cheese and the jalapeño will go down as my favorite. I just like cheese, what can I say? The location is slightly odd, located inside of a small clothing boutique, and there is nowhere to sit(though, there are several parks in the area, which is where we headed to eat our grub). The guy serving us was friendly and informative, and the experience, overall, was a good one. And, I didn’t get heartburn. I get heartburn just from glancing at something like tamales. We’ll be back. Very tasty! Their current hours are: Thursday — Saturday: 3PM — 10PM Sunday: 10AM — 3PM

I decided to give this place a try one day while I was on break. I know it’s a tamale place but I was figuring maybe they would have some burritos. Well I thought wrong:) It was tamales or nothing. Since I don’t care for tamales I told the owner Eli that. He said you need to try just one. Well I gave in and got one. Drove off to eat my tamale and I discovered that I LOVED it!!! I had less then 10 minutes left on my break so I hustled back over there and got 3 more bean, potato & green chile tamales. To say I am hooked is an understatement. I have been going there every week now. I share them with some of my co-workers, and they all like them and say the same thing… they aren’t dry. I must issue a warning though. If you pick them up and want to eat it right away DON“T!!! There warmer must be a super warmer, because they are so hot I burned my hand one time removing it from the bag. I buy them and 2 hours latter those little puppies are still warm. This is a family run business. I have meet Eii, his wife and his mother and they are all very nice people. If you love tamales you will love this place.

The new location is open in Lakewood, with new hours(3PM — 10PM I think). These tamales are amazing! There have 4 different kind of tamales(3 vegan, 1 vegetarian) with a variety of veggie/vegan ingredients in each, so they are very flavorful(and not just full of cheese)! Their salsa is also really good, but very spicy. I moved here from CA, so I struggle to find good Mexican food that is actually veggie-based, and this place has it for sure. I am excited to try their tacos, as well. Note that this is a take-out place. At this point they don’t have any seating for eat-in(although maybe that will change?).

A friend went the day before and loved this place, so I went with her to try it out. I’m not normally vegan, but she is so I eat vegan sometimes with her. I tried three of the different tamales(two vegan, one vegetarian), and was amazed at how good they were. Definitely will return to try the remaining flavors, as well as planning to come by on a Sunday to try the vegan menudo. Everyone should come try it!

Great vegan tomales If you are vegan, I recommend them highly. They will also be including other vegan items soon, or so I was told. Anyway the tamales were terrific! It is not an eat in establishment though. There are only a couple of tables, so take out is the way to go.

Very good for vegans! Usually mexican good is easy for vegetarians, but great going to a place that uses no lard or cooks meat/veggies together. my wife is native san diegoan and is always dissapointed that theres no meat free taquitos in colorado, so this was an awesome suprise. Only recommendations is maybe cheese/guac to eat with taquitos? Also potato rolled tacos would be HUGE! make all those californian transplants happy. Otherwise great alternative and good prices!

FYI — the place is closed for now due to some zoning issues with the city. HOWEVER, they will be opening up a new restaurant in Lakewood sometime this year. Keeping my fingers crossed for an expanded menu!

This place is awesome! It’s in the back of a wonderful, fun and hip clothing store. I arrived a bit early and had a chance to talk to the owner and was very impressed. The food is awseome. I have never had such great tamales! The salsa is fresh and spicy, something vital. I tootk some to go also and they reheated fabulously! Highly recommended! Stop in and give it a try.

What an amazing find. What a great treat for vegans, or anyone who wants to try an incredibly delish tamale. Only a couple of tables in this place and we took advantage of the weather and sat outside. Check this place out, you won’t regret it. Eli is the owner and so nice! I can’t wait to return!

Omigod. I’m about to Unilocal SOHARD about this place. So we walk in to find out it’s FREEVEGANMENUDODAY! What?! Free vegan menudo on Sundays. Get outta town. Top it off with a fully vegetarian, part-vegan menu at incredibly reasonable prices. For $ 6, I got two tamales(both vegan with different ingredients) and three taquitos, filled with some kind of falafel-style meat. The menudo is packed with hominy and soy meat. Add your own cilantro, onions, tortilla chips, jalapenos and piping hot salsa. It’s inside the La Muerte clothing store, which is a little confusing at first. The owners are just as nice as can be and the whole place is decked out in Dia de los Muertos garb. It has a Mexican-rockabilly feel to the décor and its location in the Santa Fe art district is perfectly complementary. Five stars for its ambience, grub and sublimely addictive energy.

I was JUST saying to someone that I was dying for some vegan tamales and then we move to Denver and BOOM! Atomic Tamale knocks it out of the park. We tried the red chile/soy meat ones and two specials of the day(zucchini/corn and potato/pinto/red chile) and they were all delicious. Great tamales and great salsa. I’m so full and can’t wait to go back!

YUM! We just moved here and WOW, so glad that we found this place right away! We had the vegan tamales today and they were so good, zucchini and corn, bean and potato and soy meat/red chile, all delicious, and creative and quick. The salsa is HOT and flavorful, soooo good. Will definitely be back. They have menudo(soup) on Sundays, too, can’t wait to try it. Also a very cool shop selling all kinds of clothing, aprons, art around the Dia de Los Muertes theme. Really interesting, unique stuff.

So I’m not vegan or vegetarian but I don’t mind saving an animal, especially when it is this delicious. I love tamales and I can’t even tell that there isn’t any meat in them. The pick up spot inside the La Muerte Apparel shop has recently opened. Before you had to call and make a special order but it is tamales and taquitos all the time now! The kicker is they have free vegetarian menudo on Sunday and the prices are super cheap. I think it is $ 5 for 2 tamales and 3 taquitos. I would eat here everyday but I can’t…not because I would get tired of it but because I would get fat.
