Ever since the new management its gone downhill. As an artist and consumer, it’s very unprofessional. When you walk in(when it’s actually open) you’re instantly hit with negative gossip. A lot of the good artists have left. They expect the artist to do all of the promoting and when they finally do, it is soo close to the show that it’s just about pointless. Marketing wise, they only cross promote with The Spitfire. A bit too niche of a market if you ask me. I guess they may be trying to do some sort of punk rock theme but art costs money and if you’re only catering to people that prefer to drink cheap beer from a can then you aren’t very business conscious. With that in mind, Ive been embarrassed to take any friends(and their children) to any«events». It’s a shame to the artistic community.

Breakneck Gallery has taken over the space formerly occupied by the Pop Shop at the corner of Cordova and Madison, and so far they seem to be a worthy successor. As a more or less lone outpost of art on the far west end of Madison, Breakneck specializes in work that is both approachable and edgy, with pieces ranging from fine photography to graphics from tattoo artists. This is quality work for those whose tastes tend to run outside the mainstream, and often the prices are well within the reach of the casual art fan. Aside from art, Breakneck also sells music, videos, and books from area artists, as well as jewelry and other times from local crafters. There’s a little something for everyone, if they’re not too uptight.
