Beware of hidden charges! There are two companies in the Denver area using the name M&M Handyman Services. This one is owned by Mark Maloney on Kendall Ct in Lakewood and the business has the suffix LLC. Mark wrote up an estimate for my bathroom that consisted of separate charges for labor and materials. I noticed a new shower door was omitted. I asked how much extra it would be and he said $ 125. I realized he was talking about a labor charge so I asked, «You were going to remove the shower door anyway to put in new tile on all three walls, so why would installing a new door be an additional labor charge? After all, you would have to reinstall the old shower door anyway and that labor should have been reflected in the initial estimate.» He said he wouldn’t insist on the $ 125 and that we would work something out. I said okay. A few days later, on Thursday morning, he sent a corrected cost of material to include the shower door. I emailed him a couple of hours later saying, «The quote is $ 380.62 higher than the original. As far as I knew, the only additional item was going to be the shower door which was omitted from the first quote. It appears the cost of the shower door is $ 229, is that correct? If so, no problem with that. But that leaves another $ 151.62 which I don’t understand… Please clarify.» I didn’t hear back Thursday or Friday so I sent a reminder Monday morning. Now it’s Tuesday night and still no response. Mark is very amiable and you’ll notice he wastes no time telling you about his charity work and the coverage he got on local news. That’s great but is this how he is going to recoup his cost of his charity work? Also, other contractors give themselves one day leeway such as «It will take 2 or 3 days». Mark gave himself 2 days leeway saying ‘3−5 days’. The difference means a labor charge of anywhere from $ 46 per hour, the going rate, to $ 76 per hour, ouch! If you do business with him, have eyes wide open.
