Tutor Time

I took my 15 month son here in October of 2014.
At first it seemed structured until I sat in for like 20 minutes and to see staff came in the toddler side from the infant said, staff was alone on infant side she had one 6 month old and another baby in her arms. I could clearly smell the baby that was crawling on the floor had a poopie diaper. I had to tell the staff to change his diaper. Well I gave them the benifit of dout and took my son there again I told staff if my son starts to cry and won’t stop call me, so I get a phone call I arrive to the center when I Walked in the staff seemed stressed again actually they were under staffed because infants were on the todller side. So I get my son from the table to find out he has a poopie diaper his poop was even on his back. I mean come on you see a baby crying the first thing your supposed to check is his diaper. The center also smells like a poopie odor maybe that’s why the staff can’t tell. And the diaper pal is in the room the kids play in just stinking it up. After that day I have not brought my son back. Please read reviews or just sit in for at least 20 minutes you will witness what I did very disappointing.

OMG how can I find a way to make this short and sweet. I will mention a few incidents but unfortunately it would take forever for me to comment on every wrong thing. The Facility itself looks nice for the most part. I was told the place gets washed down with bleach daily but i cant tell because there is always a bad smell, And my son would stay sick! The Director Shannon, however is a person that you would not want to be in charge of your child. She will lie to you with a straight face, she never knows what is going on, she throws all her staff members under the bus, VERY VERY unprofessional. She chooses her favorite students based on the parents occupation. One word to describe her is FAKE! I am a very social person, and would hold short conversations with the teachers daily and also talk to the kids. This was a problem for Shannon because for some reason she thought that she was so important that she would be topic of discussion.
I started to feel uncomfortable at the school when i found out that I became the schools topic of discussion and i was being defamed of having an affair with another parent. As I said before i am a social person and would talk to many people but because this person was attractive to them, they felt that there had to be something more. This was not the case at all and i felt like i shouldn’t have had to explain myself. When i brought the matter to Shannon she lied and said shes heard nothing about it, when in fact a teacher told me that she already commented on the topic. The first thing she says is «to be honest with you i would be mad if i found someone was talking to my husband every time they bypassed each other, maybe you should talk to him in the back of the parking lot instead of doing it blatently in our face». I so was not expecting that response, also another one of the teachers seemed to be so bothered by it that, she felt the need to comment when she has never spoken to me before. The whole situation was incredibly unprofessional and taken out of proportion.
Shannon lies about almost everything to cover her ass. The first day my son started school she asked me a question and i told her i didn’t know what she was speaking of. Instead of just telling me she says «Really Shariece should have you told you that i don’t know why she didn’t tell you that when you came to tour». She automatically blames it on her assistant, where there should have been no blame, it wasn’t a big deal. There are papers I am to sign monthly I asked her a question because she wanted me to sign on all dates even the days my son was absent. I asked her why did i need to do that when she would get paid full time anyway she says «I didnt tell you to do that, that was Shariece» actually NO it was you I remember the day clearly smh! OMG so many incidents… cant get to them all.
In the Summer they take older kids which my daughter atteneded. One of the older kids told me that Shannon asked a lil boy did he want to grow up and be fat and ugly and get ugly girlfriends, and if he didnt stop whining that was going to happen. Also there was a child with a squeeky voice that kept calling out Shannons name and she told another teacher «UUUGH I cant stand her voice, It is so annoying!» loud enough for the other children to hear… Just Inappropriate! It pissed me off my son has been at this school going on a year i took the BS for so long because I was use to it and it was convenient. He still cries every single day. She moved him to another 2 year old class per my request because he was getting older and was in a baby toddler class. She moves him for me. Within a week she says she was going to move him again to the 3 year old class which i thought was weird, but didn’t mind because I felt he would be challenged. There are 2 teachers for that age group and I requested the teacher I would like. She said she was full and that everyone wants to go to this class when transitioned to that age group. I didnt understand why no one wanted there child with the other teacher, Ive heard comments about her even from parents but if thats the case why is she a teacher. We agreed that my son would be a floater for this teacher and he would move the following week. When the week came he was not moved and when i brought it to her attention, unbelievably SHE HAS NO IDEA WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. Really! after only a week, shes such a liar and knows how to BS you. They don’t even practice the curriculum that is listed online. All a lie!
I finally moved my son out of Tutor Time. This was a toll on me because as we all know we want our kids somewhere safe where they are learning academically and socially. I had to research schools all over again and start the process of telling my son why he is going to another school which u can imagine being hard for a 2 year old. I figure he never stopped crying here anyway. I asked too schedule an interview with the owner and i was denied because she was sick.

Value: This place is the worst. My son attended for the toddler care and at first it seemed like a good place, but then we realized it was a waste of money. The tour they give us of the facility and all the information on their «curriculum» sounds great, but they totally under-​delivered in the end. My son learned more at home with me than the whole time he was there. They are basically just a bunch of old women babysitting your kids to make a paycheck. There was never any enthusiasm from my son to go to Tutor Time and most of the time he did not want to stay because there is no structure or a plan for them to learn anything-it’s day by day. If you walk in during the day, you will see that there is no structure and just yelling and screaming. My son’s «workbook» was empty and the weekly activities were so lame. I taught my son more by going to Lakeshore and buying some better learning resources from this century. Our children should not be learning some 20 year old «curriculum» when in this day in age, the platforms have changed so much. If you care about maximizing your son’s educational experience, go somewhere else, not to this place.
Staff: The Director, Shannon Batista is so unprofessional and unethical. All she cares about is payment– and you will see for yourself. She pretends to be very nice, but don’t ask her to do a little work because she will show you her true colors. I asked her to look into some past records because I needed them for my records and not only did she break FERPA law with my son’s enrollment and attendance records, but she went as far as snatching a copy of a file that I formally requested and had total rights to. She did not allow me to copy or pay for copies and said she did not have to provide me, the custodial parent, with any records. She also did not verify if in fact I even had those rights to those records. When I attempted to show her a court order where she could have seen for herself, she refused to and said she could not provide me with any copies to my son’s records because I explained to her I had those rights and she stood corrected. She obviously had something to hide. FERPA law requires any school facility to provide the legal parents with copies of all enrollment records and she refused! She reacted in such a vindictive way because I called her out on her lack of knowledge (as I work for a school). When I asked her to give me the information to her corporate office, she said she did not report to anyone. Which is also untrue, immature and totally unprofessional– unbelievable! This is the type of person she became after I requested. I also requested other sign-​in records, which I also had rights to and she could not provide those because they have no means to compile any records in an efficient way because they don’t have the technology or experience and would have to dedicate one person to manually collect the paper copies and cross out the other children’s names. To make matters worst,
not only did she provide my son’s Father with the same copies I formally requested in front of me, but she also made some unprofessional comments I will not mention here, as I am not that type of person. Be careful with this woman. People like her do not belong in this type of organization and especially at the mercy of concerned parents in a time of need.
Teachers: Only one of the teachers seemed like she knew what she was doing and how to handle all the kids during the day, but the other staff seemed so inexperienced and during the first six month, there were 3 different teachers and of course, they have a lot of turn-​over. Just ask them how long each teacher has been there, not the «average,» which doesn’t include the Director.“
Technology/​Administration: The only thing they actually have is a check-​in computer for you to log in and log out so that they can make sure they have a log to bill you, but they have no real mechanisms in this day in age to actually collect any data if you ever need it in the future as mentioned above. They also try to sell you on security, but in reality, anyone can get in the facility as soon as someone walks out the door. There is no one at the front desk during the day and only in the morning when they want to make sure you log in to account for the children they will bill for. Without a signature, they can not account for their paycheck.

My kiddo has only been in this school going on 4 months. I LOATHE this facility! From the second you walk in, you smell the dirt. The dirty diapers. There is absolutely no air circulation in the building. No windows open, so its just stuffy and smelly. The school is rather run down when you really look at it. The doors and walls are filled with black fingerprints that never get cleaned. The bathrooms are dirty. Just everything is dirty.
My kid has yet to learn here. He has kind of learned to write his name but that’s about it. Every day I ask him what he learned today, and everyday he cannot tell me. He always says I don’t know. That is not a good sign! They practice this «word smart, math smart» non sense and don’t really teach the kids anything. I have tried so hard so work with the teachers and staff and yet still, no results. To pay as much as I do and get zero results is depressing. I have visited the school at all hours of the day and not ONCE have I seen the kids sitting down learning, being taught, nothing. Its ALWAYS chaos! Kids running around screaming. No order. No curriculum.
On top of the complete lack of education your child will receive here, be prepared to get robbed by strangers lurking around the parking lot just waiting for you to leave your purse in your car. They use spark plugs to break your window rather silently and take off with your belongings. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think my kid is safe in a school where the parents get robbed within a 5 minute time frame.
Please do yourself and your children a favor and pay $ 20 extra a week for a better school. Do not put your kid in a school where their education is just going to go down a slippery slope.
Oh, also, half of the kids there are very poorly behaved. Kids curse, talk slang, hit, bite and NOTHING is done about it! Horrible school. Just HORRIBLE. I yanked my kid right outta there

Kevin has been here since he was an infant of 4 months old. He is now over 3. It seems everyday he learns something new. And let’s face it, we want our children to get the best start possible in life. And Kevin is getting that from Tutortime. They treat him so good and help him grow. The staff is outstanding. They care for and love my child like he is their own. Mrs Shannon is an outstanding administrator. She has a thankless, tough job and her high energy makes the place run like a well oiled machine. Give me an energetic admin above a sit at the desk type anyday. The results speak for themselves. The teachers have cared for Kevin in such a loving way. From the infant room, to toddler room. Don’t hesitate to leave your child here if it fits what you are looking for. Any day care can change diapers and feed kids. It takes an exceptional one to foster a child when they are not around mom and dad. I appreciate all they do. Final point, they have a key code at the door that allows access. Security is as tight as I could ever hope to see. Cameras, front door locked at all times, I feel my little guy is ABSOLUTLY safe. I saw the review where they walked right in. That isn’t happening now.

I have been bringing my daughter here since she was 3 months old. Staff is very friendly and caring. All of the staff seem to take great pride in their «work». My daughter is genuinely excited about coming here which as a parent is a huge relief. I researched over 9 places before choosing this one for my daughter and I am so glad I did. My only regret is that it took me so long to post this review. You could say that I was just making sure they deserve the 5 star rating or I could be truthful and say that I get lazy about posting reviews. I will let you decide and be all judgmental of me.
What I love above this daycare is all the interaction and care they show to each child. I have been there when it seems like every child is having a meltdown. Personally I would be popping Tylenol like Pez, each of the teachers just smile and work their magic calming the kids down. There are lots of activities going on to keep the kids engaged too. In the summer there are field trips for the older kids and special guest brought in for the little ones such as the Reptile Man, a magician, etc.
Great place and I am grateful for each of them

My daughter has been in infant care for the last few weeks, and I can’t say enough wonderful things about the staff. The facility is older, but I rate child care based on the quality of the staff. The director has an open door policy, and is very approachable and caring. The infant instructors love what they do, and it is very evident. I can stop by at any time, and the children are always well cared for, and comfortable.

Note: This review is solely based on a tour. We have not enrolled our child there yet. This review is also stressing on importance of Infant Care since that’s is where our child will start.
There are stand out criteria that are the main factors of this review: +Security; how easy is it for someone other than parents, or designated people to enter the building.
+Cleanliness; sterilization of toys, eating areas, general make-​up of facility.
+Experience; how many years experience of the Director, teachers. Turn over of the teachers.
+Care; meaning how well the teachers impressed us on their level of care they would provide our child. Are the facilities homely and is it a good environment for our child. Would we trust our child here?
Tutor Time Child Care Learning Center in Lakewood, is not a place I would enroll my child for infant day care. The 2 stars: «Meh. I’ve experienced better.» says it all. We toured 4 facilities today, and this was by far the worse.
+Security; This was the most insecure building they could possibly have for a day-​care. We walked right in, we weren’t greeted, no one at the front desk, and could have walked straight through without going unnoticed. This was a very bad first impression. It’s funny, because they have security camera up, and an area for monitors, but it’s in the hallway, and no-​one is in front of them at all times monitoring. It’s just a front to say, «hey look what we have». But doesn’t really do anything since we just walked right in.
+Cleanliness; Wow — I think my dog’s kennel & dog run is cleaner than this place. They showed us bottles of bleach/​water sanitizer but I don’t see where they have been used. We saw fingerprints all over the beds, the floors were bad & there is no way they can sanitize all the toys in the toy room. It smelled bad when we first walked in, and just didn’t get the feeling that this place has a clean-​code.
+Experience; This is the only thing this place has going for it. Most of the teachers have been there at least 8 years. Many of them longer. They’re all certified child-​development, and CPR. Backgrounded & fingerprinted. I will tell you this though: the director seemed a little disjointed and chaotic in her approach to us. We didn’t get the feeling that this place was being run in a «tight-​ship» manner.
+Care; Another «yikes» moment was when we were touring the infant care room, there were already 4 children in there and only 1 teacher on-​site. As soon as another child came into the room, they went into the «waddler» room, since it would have been in violation of code to keep her in the infant room with only 1 staff member. She didn’t look like she was a waddler, so we found that to be a little odd. Because the Infant & Waddler rooms are adjoining, I guess they can get around the 4:1 code, since there were 2 staff members on-​site at the Waddler room with only 4 kids there. hmmmm… we didn’t like this nonetheless. Also, the facility is in a strip-​mall environment, and when they take the kids out for a walk, it’s around the building. The outside area did not seem that nice either.
We found better places.
