4÷24÷2010UPDATE: We needed an antique drawer pull, so we decided to pick up lunch. Fries: still awesome Doughnuts: even better Corned beef hash sandwich: I don’t know if they read our previous review or we lucked out, but this time it had more of a hash(liver) flavour, the bun was warmed, AND they now have these containers of chipotle sauce which the sandwich can be dipped into – yum yum yum! The chipotle sauce is HOT with a slight tang and good burn. Happy me! 3÷20÷2010 This will be an odder review than usual, so let me explain. Why the 5 stars? 1) HOTFRESHDONUTS. No Joke. 3/$ 2, and they’re made to order. This is definitely a winner on Doughnut Quest Part V Small cinnamon and sugar encrusted fluffy doughnuts that are so good that we ordered another trio after we were full from lunch. 2) FRENCHFRIES I usually need a lot of mayonnaise to dip fries into because they’re okay. But not here. For $.88, you get a sno-cone filled with hot, fresh, fluffy, real fries that taste like potatoes, only better. There was no mayo, which was fine. These even stayed hot while we were eating everything else. To be honest, I don’t think I’ve ever had fries this good, and that includes fries from the chi-chi places like Frites Ok, now for my normal review. We were looking for Blossom’s Kitchen in the Golden Nugget Antique Market in Lambertville; the last review was in 2007, the phone number was disconnected, but we decided to check it out anyway. Besides, I was starving. Needless to say, Blossom’s Kitchen is gone, and in its place is Fast Eddie’s. It’s between the diner(closed) and the large barn structure. Lots of red and white, with a Nascar theme. Bikers welcomed, and free coffee for vets. Plus hot doughnuts, which I may have mentioned. There are characters here, but please don’t stare because they can probably kick your ass. On the television was Car Wash, which was also hooked up into the speakers around the restaurant, and added a bit of ambiance which was so completely appropriate in an odd way. We grabbed a booth and then went up to the counter to order. On the $.88 menu was a steak & egg sandwich, coney fries, cheeseburger, and hot dog; I decided I wanted all of those plus an order of doughnuts. They were out of the chipped pork sandwich, but did have a hash and egg sandwich, so we got that too. Cups for tap water are $.25 each. When food was ready, it’s brought out to your booth unless you’re sitting at the counter. If the weather is nice, there are also tables outside. And it was fresh. First we tried the doughnuts. These were so incredibly good and hot. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a place with made to order doughnuts; no offense Krispy Kreme, but here they make them immediately before serving instead of making a bunch and then flipping a switch on a sign. Did I mention that I loved the doughnuts? I should note that they can be devoured in 2 bites or savoured in 4. The hot dog was plump and good, but the bun room temperature. There’s a condiment section near the booths with Boar’s Head Mustard, pickles, relish, and onions. I don’t even remember the last time I saw anyone sell a hot dog for $.88! Steak and egg sandwich: the roll was more like a mild sourdough and good; sliced steak with a scrambled egg. Good, but not great. Cheeseburger: small sausage sized patty in the same roll as the steak sandwich, with a smear of cheeze whiz(better than American cheese in my opinion); meh. Fries: Best fries I’ve had, possibly ever. Hot and crispy on the outside, fluffy and tender on the inside. Hash and egg sandwich: served on a seedless kaiser roll; Jim thought it was a little salty, I thought it was mild. It was okay, but I’ve never been a fan of hash. After devouring all of this, we ordered more doughnuts, with a side of milk($ 1). The servers/order takers(owner?) may look like they could be gruff, but they were instead really warm, friendly, and nice. When you’re sitting back and patting your belly, one will come by, ask nicely if you’re done, then take the tray for you. It’s a clean restuarant with greasy fare, and we left happy. Hearing Car Wash during the meal was just an added bonus. Now we know where to go for the most incredible hot doughnuts and fries, as well as door knobs and hinges. Total for 2 including a return for more doughnuts, $ 13.60 including tax and before tip. We believe it was cash only. We will definitely be back.
