Andrew Jackson State Park

This is a small state park right off Hwy 521 in South Carolina within a short drive of South Charlotte.
The park offers camping (including RV’s), a museum and other historical information on Andrew Jackson, fishing, picnicking, and paddle boating. There are boats to rent or you can bring your own canoe/​kayak or other non-​motorized flotation device. There is a really nice outdoor amphiteatre and two short nature trails as well.
And like most South Carolina parks, there is a day usage fee and there is a drop box for that when you enter the park.

This is one of those places that I have seen often but only recently visited. Just a 15 minute drive from Ballantyne on 521 lies this hidden gem where our 7^th president and the park’s namesake was allegedly born. The park is not huge at 360 acres but it is big enough. The small museum offers a lot of history about Andrew Jackson, the area known as The Waxhaws, and some of the battles of the American Revolution and The War of 1812.
Apart from the history, there is a meeting facility that can be rented, a replica of an old schoolhouse, picnic shelters, an amphitheater, a small lake for fishing, and some nature trails.
Admission is $ 2 per adult and $ 1 for children which goes to the upkeep of the park. If you are looking for something different to do and like history, this is a must visit. It’s also convenient to Ballantyne, Fort Mill, Indian Land, Rock Hill, Monroe, and Weddington, so you may not be too far from it.

If you are looking for a nice state park thats close to the Ballantyne area? A place where you feel miles from everything, but dont want to drive forever to get there?
This is the place! Very nice and quiet and about 15 – 20 minutes south of Ballantyne.
There is a decent pond that is able to be fished, as well as a nice walking trail. And if your plans include sleeping under the stars with the real young ones, this might really be the spot for you. They have a very nice campground and with the close proximity to Charlotte, your children can be on the adventure of their lives without having to drive forever to get there.
