As I’ve been traveling across the country by car I’ve occasionally stopped by YMCAs to take a shower. Usually the Ys will charge a small fee of $ 2 – 3, sometimes nothing at all(lookin’ at you Tulsa YMCA!) Not here. When I asked about doing this at the front desk the help sort of looked crosseyed at me as though they’d never heard of someone doing this before then told me that I’d have to buy a day pass for $ 15 just to take a shower. When I mentioned that this was very unlike any other Y I’d been to the senior guy there(actually a twenty-something unsympathetic chump) just looked at me as if to say«so what?» I didn’t realize that the Lampeter Strasburg YMCA was such an exclusive organization and quite unlike any other Y I’d visited. It probably goes without saying that it deserves zero stars but… you know. BTW, the same thing happened at the Y in Lancaster but there, after calling the boss(Tom?) and finding out that they’d have to charge me $ 15 as well, the desk staff winced as they told me that, realizing just how unreasonable that was. WTH is up with the Lancaster area Ys?!

If you’re in the Lampeter-Strasburg area, and looking for a gym, this is really the only game in town. That is not to say this is a bad gym, in fact I think it’s pretty dang good. It is definitely a community gym. There are people of all shapes, sizes, and ages. Almost everyone should feel comfortable here. My only complaint is that sometimes it does get a bit crowded, especially the circuit weight machines. But that’s not so bad.
