Loved this place. Great atmosphere of old dinner. Friendly staff. Had hoped to make it back here. Had a great breakfast and coffee. So bummed it is closed.

Update: We gave this place this moring for one more try. Same thing: — Completely smoke filled the whole time we were there — There was an employee’s laptop taking up the last open 4-person booth, and the server had to come over and remove wires, bag etc. No clue why they let an employee take up a whole booth with his stuff why he’s in the back doing whatever — the men’s toilet seat is still broken after 6 mos — dirty floors — what does that take, 10 mins to mop? — old tableclothes — the waitress would show up at our table with gum stuck to her arm — I’m guessing she wanted to keep chewing it but didn’t want to get rid of it while serving tables(i know — this one sounds made up — it’s not) — napkins were just crumpled around the silverware, rather than being prepped and wrapped nicely in the back — they never have lox, even though they’re on the menu — they have no real butter for the pancakes even though they’re a breakfast/lunch place Overall the food is pretty good(the hot chocolate is very good) but it seems like the owner is never there to see what is going on. I can’t believe that one of the people there is the owner and would let all of this happen. The pancakes were large and delicious, and the grits are pretty good. We will not go here again unless we read of mgmt changing. It’s really too bad because we loved this place so much the first time we were there.

I love the mom and pop feel of this place. And the staff was really nice. I ordered a philly cheese steak and there was more bread then meat so if you decide to go her don’t get the philly. My husband ordered the crab cake sandwich and he loved it and that’s saying something considering he is from Maryland.

Ok there’s only 3 customers in the place so not busy spot at 11am. Got coffee finished it in 4 min. Can I have a refill please? Ok got it, by a random regular that saw me in distress. huh? this guy doesnt even work here. lol Ok now here comes the food. Oh geez she just dropped the whole order. I guess either she was nervous or the plate had so much grease it just slipped. Remade everything. Didn’t matter the whole breakfast was awesome. Eggs, sausage homefries were awesome. Darn, I wish I could give this a better review! I really wanted to find a great deli-style sandwich shop around here. Unfortunately, Not Just Sandwiches is not what I was looking for. Service was friendly, but not terribly quick. I ordered a cold hoagie and french fries, and it took far longer than you’d expect, especially considering the number of employees standing by the counter chatting and adjusting their makeup. The hoagie came with mayonnaise, which was NOT on the menu — a mistake, since many hoagie-eaters do not enjoy mayonnaise, myself included. The cheese was layered on thick and the roll was nice, but I just honestly was not impressed. The fries were tasty, but did not justify the cost of the sandwich. The assortment of cheeses and meats is not diverse, unfortunately, nor is it inspiring. The other ingredients offered aren’t much better. The décor is dated and a little grim; it’s definitely time for a makeover. For a restaurant that advertises itself as being«not just sandwiches», they don’t deliver much else. It wasn’t bad, but it was mediocre. I’m sorry, but I’ll find somewhere else.

I’ve passed by Not Just Sandwiches a million times but only recently noticed this unassuming little diner on Main Street. Turns out it’s as unassuming and unpretentious on the inside as it is on the outside. I went on a Sunday at 8 am after working an overnight shift and I was only 1 of 2 customers inside. Staff was warm and inviting. Taylor, my server, was super sweet. Not sure I can accurately comment on the pace of service given how few customers there were, but she was quick to take my order and my food came out fast. I ordered The Duo — basically 2 of everything. I chose the French toast(subbed for the Challah bread) with scrambled eggs. I didn’t have to choose between meats like at most establishments — it came with both sausage AND bacon(score!) The French toast… «Oh my god» audibly escaped my lips as I took my first bite. Hands down the most delicious French toast I’ve ever had! It was so simple — topped with some powdered sugar and syrup — but the Challah itself was flavorful and the perfect thickness. The bacon was cooked just the way I like it — crispy but with a slight chew. The sausage and eggs were good. Even though this was MORE than enough food, I ordered a side of homefries so I could try them out after hearing everyone rave about them. It was a huge serving! Crispy skin and tender inside. Yum. I enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of this place and I’m sorry I didn’t go here sooner. I’ll definitely be back for more of their French toast, and I’ll try the coffee when I’m not about to go home and crash.

I don’t usually write negative reviews but I feel compelled to in this case. Let’s be honest diner food is diner food, you don’t expect it to be amazing, or reaviling of incredible culinary secret, it is what it is, you expected it to be a little heavy and greasy in that sort of comforting way. On the other hand you don’t expect your sandwich to be soggy, like the cook is deliberately trying to melt the bread away with grease. I don’t expect a diner to be a michelin star restaurant that would be foolish and unfair but there is a limit. The limit is the moldy fruit I was served, which definitely calls out for more attention by the kitchen staff.

No complaints about service, speed or leg room from me. NJS is a great little place that serves up a hearty breakfast and a real nice cup of coffee. It’s that simple.

Ate here once. We sat at the counter because the place was packed. With that many people in there, we figured we were in for an awesome breakfast/lunch(we were there around 11). It took 10 minutes for anyone to even give us a menu. Another 15 for cups of coffee. My bf never got his orange juice. We ordered typical breakfast stuff: a veggie omelette for me and eggs and a side of bacon and a side of grits(instead of homefries) for the boyfriend. Forty five minutes and 3 coffee refills later, no food. About an entire hour after sitting down(the place is basically empty now) we finally got our food. And the bacon was missing. By this point we didn’t even care, and though we were starving by then, the food still wasn’t very good. Pretty bland, ESPECIALLY the grits, which were just inedibly bad. It was just an ice cold white gelatinous blob on the plate. Thankfully, since then we’ve found the Koffee Korner Café over on Broad Street, which is SOMUCHBETTER.

Here’s the thing. I want to love NJS because their food is fairly decent, the atmosphere is relaxing and the coffee is good. But the portions are seriously out of control. There is nobody on the planet who can eat 3 pancakes the size of dinner plates and the thickness of paperbacks. When you order home fries I am estimating, without the vaguest trace of hyperbole, that a minimum of five potatoes go into each serving. Last time I ordered an omelette, home fries and toast(all excellent) and needed two groaning to-go boxes to carry the leftovers, and I have a healthy appetite. The sheer amount of excess and waste baffles and saddens me. But by all means, if you are looking for some quality eggs, NJS is a great place. They just have no idea what the human stomach can handle. Edit: I just went here this morning and ordered french toast, and I am convinced they made it with cake instead of bread. Like, there was an actual crumble topping. I felt like I might as well chow down on a stick of butter. It was absolutely disgusting. Nothing to redeem this place any more for me.

Great little restaurant on Main Street. While they don’t have an extremely wide-ranging menu, there are a good variety of different sandwiches, hoagies, etc. Be advised, I went during lunchtime. So, I wasn’t really interested in a whole huge meal with sides and all, just a sandwich. Also, they may have a different menu for dinnertime… Their tuna hoagie was pretty good, tasted fresh, bread tasted fresh. Lot of food for the money, too. I had to take 1⁄3 of the sandwich home. Quick service, too.

So, let’s talk about this. Overall, good food, good atmosphere … a place that makes you feel like part of the community. But the pancakes. I’d say they’re the size of your head, but I’d be lying, unless you have a fairly tremendous head. They’re the size of a dinner plate … and you get three. My husband said it best: «I feel like I’ve been punk’d.» My husband got the banana walnut pancakes and I got the blueberry. His were better. We couldn’t even manage to eat a third of each plate. It felt like we should get a prize if ate all three(to be clear, the only prize is the inability to gracefully maneuver back to your car .your prize is a waddle). To take all of my husbands leftovers and half of mine took three to-go boxes. Go here for sure, but for the love of breakfast, split the pancakes. And bring the neighbors … to share the pancakes.

I really wanted to like the breakfast… Decent food. Mostly friendly staff. Omelets were good, but a little greasy. The veggie omelet makes no mention of green peppers, which I cannot stand. Had to pick them out, but the flavor was already there. Home fries were just okay. I’ve definitely had better. Again, greasy and some parts were soft and mushy. Sausage gravy was nicely done. Grits were too congealed(think polenta) for me, but my southern-born BF enjoyed that texture. Toast comes heavy on the butter. All that I could handle… until the smell of the staff smoking outside the back door started rolling in. Not good. Don’t think I will come back. Disappointing, given all the good reviews here.

I really wanted to love this place! After reading all the great reviews we decided to have a early lunch here. As I walked in, I no longer felt like I was in Lansdale and I was quite impressed with the interior… UNTIL I sat down. After my companion and I sat at the booth, we found that we did not have much leg room at all. Neither of us are extremely tall and I for one was uncomfortable the entire meal. The second strike was the service which was unbelievably slow considering the emptiness of the place. We finally ordered and I got coffee and a Greek omelet. The omelet had a nice amount of what appeared to be fresh spinach, but was drowning in feta. Excess cheese is not something I usually complain about, but feta is salty and has a strong flavor. The coffee was fine and the toast average and over-buttered. My companion got the«Famous» chicken salad and he claims there was nothing about it that called fame. Overall, this place was awful or great. We did love the music and the atmosphere. We both agreed that our meals tasted better heated up the next day. On a positive note, the portions are HUGE!

Small place but the food rocks! Had the pumpkin pancakes. Super huge fluffy pancakes. Way too much. My breakfast companion had the farmers omlette. Omg!!! Yummy and plenty to share. The homefries with onions are the best! Heading back this weekend as there was too much on the menu to choose from :) UPDATE: A close friend of mine applied for a PT position here. The owner goes out for a smoke and comes back and touches the food without washing his hands. OMG!~ First of all I do not want anybody’s fingers on my food. Use utensils please! Secondly anyone working with food should be ultra aware of washing their hands fairly frequently, especially after smoking, using the bathroom, etc.

Came in for breakfast. Top tier for breakfast food in the area. Staff was very friendly. Service was slow. Just 4 tables were filled and everyone was waiting. If you are not in a rush it’s definitely worth it.

For those who are kicking themselves for not finding this place sooner, don’t feel bad! They haven’t been here very long. This storefront has been home to two other restaurants in the four years I’ve lived in Lansdale. Not Just Sandwiches is the latest tenant and they’re doing well for themselves. I didn’t eat in the previous restaurants frequently so I can’t comment on whether the latest name change also included a change of management and/or staff. What is clear is that NJS is doing the small-town mom-n-pop diner thing right. The menu has all the standards and some interesting little gems. The specials are always great. Most importantly, the service is warm and attentive(at least during my two visits). I’m a huge advocate for independent business owners, particularly restaurants, but more often than not the execution falls short. NJS is not one of those disappointments! It’s a solid eatery right on Main Street, and an excellent choice for those looking for good, straightforward diner fare.

I’ve lived in lansdale my whole life and have never ever even heard about this place until last week. Well, im glad i found it but disappointed that this gem has gone unknown for so long. It has a small town restaurant feel – regulars, families, old couples, and the occasional youngsters. Moreover, they have some baseball and Phillies stuff posted onto the wall, giving the restaurant a very homelike feeling. The service was excellent. We had a very nice waitress and experienced very fast service. I ordered the Farmers Omlet with Homefries and fried onions. How about that… Fried onions in my homefries. This totally transforms everything that i once thought homefries to be. In addition to the moments of onion-ness, the homefries have a nice balance of soft and crunchy bits. The food was absolutely massive which is probably why I struggled walking out of this place… or maybe because i did not want to leave this tasty, local wonderland.
