John is a true craftsman, a great find! NOTE, with the closing of the Sherman Brothers store in Montgomeryville, The Towne Cobbler has moved to 427 South Broad Street in Lansdale.

After passing by this place a zillion times on the way to my boyfriend’s house, I finally remembered to grab a couple pairs of shoes I needed new heel tips on to be repaired. Thank goodness! Tucked inside Sherman Brothers Shoes, Towne Cobbler is operated by a lovely older gentleman, owner John Ambolino, who took the time to speak with me in regards to what services I needed and suggested a few other ways of improving my badly worn shoes. He suggested patching a teensy hole forming near the toe, but after I’d informed him that they were purchased at Payless and I wear them maybe twice a year, he agreed that perhaps we ought to let the shoes die out instead of spending more to fix them than they’d cost. I dropped my shoes off on a Friday and was told to call the following Wednesday to see if they were ready… I’d forgotten to until a couple days after that, but they were ready when I went to pick them up on that Saturday afternoon and they looked brand new. Never would’ve known I’d worn the poor heels down to the metal(ladies, you know what I mean), and it came to just $ 18.00 for new tips on two pairs of shoes. A few years back I went to a place in Southampton, PA that charged me almost as much for just one pair. Would definitely recommend Towne Cobbler for your shoe repair needs.
