My husband bought hiking boots here and an eyelet broke after 2 days. We took them back and got a different pair; different brand. An eyelet broke after about 4 days. Both of these boot brands were over $ 100. Your product sucks.

I like this store with only one exception. Every time i come here(which is often) it takes forever to cash out. They usually only have one cashier at a time unless one gets«called up». Take today for example: There was one guy ahead of me in line. The cashier was helping a woman return an item for a different color, along with answering incoming phone calls. After 8 minutes he called another guy up. This guy waited on the guy ahead of me who happened to want a bear hunting license, which may have been quick, but he and the employee decided to talk about the best hunting places and hunting stories. By this time there were 3 more customers in line wait to cash out. Neither of the employees acknowledged anyone in line. After approx 8 more minutes i finally asked if we could cash out some where else because i had to go. Finally they determined that they did not have the womans return color she wanted so they finished up with her. So i was finally acknowledged and cashed out. 2 minutes to pick out my items and 16 minutes in line to cash out. This happens evey time in this store although today was the worst.

Gander Mountain is a large corporate store with a few good things in stock. I went for the firearms section, so cannot expound upon the other areas. I was looking for a range bag, but they had limited selection available. Of course, there is hardly any handgun ammo, but that is the case everywhere nowadays. Basically, if you need the basics, such as eye/ear protection, shotgun/hunting accessories and ammo, it’s just fine and dandy. But if you need something slightly more specific, such as home/self-defense items, order it online.

I don’t know whether to say this store is overstocked or understaffed, the reality is it’s probably both. While I enjoy hunting stores, this particular store is one of the few in the area that is licensed to handle handguns. This makes it quite difficult to get attentive service when visiting the location. In addition to typically having a line, the staff seems quite rushed. Aside from the gun case area, there are a large selection of additional hunting and fishing gear; and a very good selection of clothing. However, it does feel a bit cluttered, and I think all the staff was busy with the gun department and customer service desk, because I didn’t see any staff anywhere else in the store. Given the size and cost of some of the equipment, it would have been helpful to have had assistance. If you know what you want, and know this store has it in stock, then this is a great place to go. But if you’re on the fence and really need knowledgeable assistance, it may take some time to get help.
