Stayed here during a football weekend and prices were almost double from during the summer. Had a cockroach run across my pillow. Yuck!!! Find another hotel.

«I never stay at these places,» my wife says but this time, to save money and take advantage of a very low price, she reserved a room here so that we can move our Freshman into Michigan State University nearby. We are from out of state, but obviously she didn’t read the online reviews. This hotel is probably the worst experience we’ve ever had and after one night, we decided to check out! Shockingly bad. FIRSTTRICK/BAD OMEN: Snuggled out of the way in a nice, rural area you’d think the hotel would be nice. On check-in, the young man at the front desk was haggard looking and wore a wrinkled shirt like he hopped out of bed(at 4pm in the middle of the day). Didn’t think much of it, but as we pulled around to our room there was a ragged, broken down late-model car out front getting a jump and a white vehicle circling the lot. A day laborer was hanging in the lot with a beer on the phone at the stairs. INSIDEJOB: In the room, the wall adjacent to the far bed had a large 14″ square patch that was painted over. Did someone kick a whole in the wall or maybe there was a plumbing issue in the tiny bathroom? The bathroom? Oh, the bathroom took it to another level! On flush(and I’ll spare you of the imagery), the toilet would fill and not flush UNLESS you held the lever down the entire flush cycle. I figure out that after flushing a ‘session’ probably five times! It seemed that on each flush would either overflow onto the floor or after lots of swirling, slowly flush. #nasty The shower? The theme of the room is slow and within 15 seconds the shower had backed up to my ankles, forcing me to cut it short. The shower head vibrated back and forth when on with the cap that connects it to the wall wasn’t caulked down. EXITSTAGELEFT: It took a day, in between all the college business we had to stress over, to find another quality room to reserve. On the second evening on pull in, the construction pickups were still there with a group of four guys hanging out back tipping back a few forties and talking Pernell Whitaker’s boxing career. That white vehicle(I’m assuming a renter living in the hotel) was double parked in the exit capping off a horrendous experience in style. Usually, the service staff at a hotel changes linen and towels; our bed wasn’t made in-between nights BUT our towels were changed! Maybe the staff taking a group cigarette break should do some work — we saw one guy working the second floor but five others taking a cig break. Ugh. For your own sake, make sure to read these online reviews, take them to heart and AVOID the Red Roof in Lansing at all cost.

You get what you pay for. This is why it’s two stars instead of one. This place would have been 3 stars maybe in the 80s. But standards have changed. Place is old, rooms dirty, kinda dank overall. But it is relatively cheap. Stains and a few stray pubes in the sheets was pretty gross. Also was a loud party going on a few rooms down. That sucked.

This was probably the worst hotel stay I have ever had. The sheets were stained. The comforters were stained. I found stray hairs in the shower and sink. The floor was so dirty it turned the bottoms of my feet literally black. I started wearing shoes after that. The chairs in the room also had stains. There were bugs on the walls. The whole room felt sticky and dirty and disgusting, like a cheap roach motel you’re spending 30 bucks on and worry you’re going to come home with bedbugs or roaches or fleas. For 60 – 75 a night, the room could at least be minimally clean. The continental breakfast was cheap plastic toast, mini bagels, and cereal. No protein whatsoever. Oh and coffee and juice. That’s it. I requested late check out because I had my dog with me and couldn’t leave her in the car in the 90 degree heat until I was done at 5. I’ve stayed at other red roof inns and never had a problem doing late check out. The girl at the desk, Jenna, was very sweet and tried to help, but her manager insisted I pay for another full night just to leave my dog in the room for an extra couple of hours. Basically they’ll collect from me knowing I have no choice, and then turn around and rent the room again the same night I already paid for and collect double. Greedy, seedy, and just cheap. Don’t stay here, there are better places for a similar amount of money. The aptitude of the manager of this hotel clearly shows in the state of the rooms. Housekeeping is clearly completely apathetic, but the manager is obviously more interested in being unpleasant and unhelpful to customers than ensuring the hotel has even basic upkeep. If you’re the owner of this hotel, fire the manager, she is clearly completely inept at her job, your hotel is hands down the worst I have ever stayed in, and hire Jenna as the manager. She was personable and tried her best to be helpful. These are the qualities you want in a manager. I travel a fair amount. I won’t stay in another Red Roof.
