I ordered sea bass. It was extremely fishy in smell. Very paper thin cut and defiantly, I would not suggest ordering this.

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had! Mediocre service, wine out of stock and terrible meals. DON’T ORDERTHETUNA!!! It is complete mush and inedible! The replaced my awful tuna with an over cooked, over salted steak a half hour later. Save your $ and go elsewhere!

A good front! It appears to be an high end steak joint but isn’t. Bad service, very slow. Soup was cold and came with the rest of the cold entres. As a former restaurant professional the chef should be ashamed. After the soup was sent back, typically a manager would visit the table… We’re still waiting. Burned asparagus… Bad experience over night…

Service was terrible. Not slow but not attentive. Didn’t take our dishes away from appetizers in a timely fashion. Didn’t take away our finished drinks after receiving new ones. Didn’t really clean up anything during the meal. So the table seemed sloppy and«uncomfortable». For appetizers we had the shrimp cocktail– four jumbo shrimp with cocktail sauce. Nothing special. At all. Calamari– good. Flavorful Spring rolls– good but soggy inside. I ordered the filet. Could have made it at home honestly. Nothing special. Tried many other things. Sea bass– best thing I tried. Penne a la vodka– a little kick to it. Not much tho. Decent dish. Peasants pasta– rather flavor less but fine. Not worth 20 $. Citrus salmon– pretty good flavored salmon Mac and cheese– good but not to die for. For the price, the restaurant needs to kick their food up a notch and provide better service.

1st Visit: Very Good. I don’t get the bad reviews. We used to eat out all the time and on vacation would seek out the nice expensive places to eat. We went to Vegas for the food, not the gambling. Then kids came and we don’t eat out as much anymore but for date night we recently tried Troppo, it was the best meal we’ve had since Mesa Grille in Vegas last time. The service was also excellent. My wife had the catch of the day which was salmon prepared with a chipotle glaze of some type. It was served on a brown butter risotto(which was very dry for risotto, Anthony Bourdain would not have been happy, but still delicious). We both liked it. I had Scallops Rockefeller which was amazing. I would have preferred the scallops be a little more cooked, they were done, but just barely. It was a minor issue on of the best plates I’ve had. The scallops were under a strangely al dente and cheesy spinach crust that was delectable, and over some heavenly whipped potatoes swimming in a lemon caper sauce. Service was excellent, also the best we’ve had since Vegas, and I am very critical on service. I never wanted for anything, never had an opportunity to notice my glass low. Our ticket came to $ 100 with drinks and dessert, I feel like we got our money’s worth. That being said, I did notice one server chatting up a single table for a long time(about politics, which might make sense considering the location) to the detriment of his other tables, so those other tables may not have gotten as good of service as we did. 2nd Visit: Still Good. We went back tonight and had another very good meal. Service was a tad slow at first, but otherwise very good, diligent, friendly. I wanted for nothing. My wife ordered the butternut squash soup which she knew she liked, and I knew I didn’t like(too sweet for my palate). I had the sweet and sour calamari appetizer which was very very good, the calamari was perfectly cooked, not too tough, hardly chewy at all. I got the chicken piccata, which came over a bed a mashed potatoes, I was expecting pasta(the menu mentioned neither, I just assumed) but it was very very good. Not as heavy as some picatta’s I’ve had(more lemon/wine, less cream), I completely cleaned the plate. It was a decent portion too, 3 big pieces of chicken. The wife got«peasants pasta» which was, ironically, very rich. Heavily cream based sauce tossed with pancetta, peas, and pasta. It was very good, I ate some of it, she liked it a lot though did not relish the caloric volume. Both plates looked good coming out too, we eat with our eyes first and they were not disappointed. We got dessert. I had a chocolate cream pie with bruleed bananas, presentation was excellent, taste was excellent, I again cleaned my plate. My wife got chocolate chip cheese cake. She remarked it tasted fresh, not frozen, I tried it, thought it was okay, but its cheese cake, how bad can it be? She did not finish it, though that was because she was simply full, we brought it home for the kids. For the two of us with soup, app, two meals, two deserts, 1 cocktail, came to $ 75 pre-tip.

Had a great experience here for dinner. Atmosphere and service was excellent. The steak bite appetizer is worth the visit. Crab cake was also very good. The fish dishes for our main course were perfectly cooked, presented beautifully, and had the taste to match. Only thing to miss 5 stars was the steak dinner which although very good wasn’t quite as good as expected. The location and various dining options inside the place are terrific. You can get a private room for small to quite large parties. Also for this type of dining there shouldn’t be anything they are out of on the menu. Would definitely keep this place in mind for special occasions in the Lansing area. Could use a bit more noticeable markings on the exterior to draw in people not familiar with the area to increase evening diners. Overall very good!

We came here with a large group for a late lunch. The service was fantastic and both the menu options and the food itself were great. To start we had the ahi tartare and the calamari. Both were phenomenal and bursting with flavor. For our entrees our group ordered everything from the filet to the burger, pasta and more. Everybody was served a moderate portion and overall the food was very good. Prices were high for the Lansing area but not obnoxious. Drinks were also very good and affordably priced.

On the pricey side, but that is to be expected with the location. The steak was delicious and the service was great. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Went for dinner tonight with 3 other couples. Waiter came over and took drink orders, one person in our party did not get his drink. Had to ask where it was. Service getting our meals were extremely slow. While we were waiting for dinner, the manager came over and apologized for being slow I due to a large party. Well, you knew there was a large party and why did everybody else have to wait. Be staffed. He did offer us free desert which was fine. Thank you. Our waiter came back and took desert orders. After maybe 20+ minutes, the waiter came back and asked«Is there anything else». I said, «Sure, how about our deserts». He forgot to turn the orders in. Wow, then we had to wait again. Almost 3 hours to eat! No excuse, Sorry Troppo, we probably won’t be back.

No wait on a Wednesday night. Troppo is elegant and classy in appearance. They have a good wine selection and moderate beer selection. We came in for drinks and appetizers. We shared a caprese salad and ahi tuna tartar appetizer. The salad was great and flavorful. The ahi tuna was good but didn’t have much flavor. We were also brought a bread basket which had very good bread and a sweet herb butter. Our server was excellent, making recommendations and checking up on us several times. The atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable.

First time and last time. Let’s see here… I didn’t make a reservation, but they seated us within 5 or 10 minutes. Our waitor was sweet, but that’s about it. I have never waited 40 mins in my life just to get my DRINK. Once they came, we put our orders in. 15 minutes later he came back ask in for our orders but then said«Oh wait, I already took them.» An hour and a half into being there, I still didn’t have a bread basket(which we asked for), waters had been empty for about half an hour along with our drinks. Once we got our food, everything was good except for two entrees that weren’t prepared how we asked. The food was still pretty good however, but I will never go back to this restaurant solely based off of the terrible, terrible service. Also was very expensive. I would’ve expected at least a beer to be taken off of the bill as a way of compromising for the service, but no.

Stopped in for dinner 12÷29÷14, and left unimpressed. Food was average, which says a lot considering their upscale prices. Service was slow and absent at times. I would not go out of my way for this place… there are better places to dine in Lansing

I went on a Friday night and I probably will not go back again. We ordered calamari and the mango chutney made it cold and damp. My entrée was good but it was a tiny portion — overwhelmed by sun dried tomatoes. Server did not refill my water. Several beers listed on the menu were unavailable. Music playing on speakers was super annoying. Food was good but not for the price.

This place is could be just amazing, but it just misses the mark with a bunch of little things that made it just ok. First, the décor is awesome. It feels like a speakeasy! Very dim lighting, robust dark woods, white tablecloths, and murals of famous people from back in the day. Wrap all this up with modern music and it made for a great atmosphere. The menu was basic, simple… in a good way. Everything sounded so good and refined. Based off the atmosphere and menu alone, you were setting yourself up to think this is going to be a great fine dining experience. I really wanted something simple so I decided to go for the burger. I don’t eat beef and asked if they could sub the beef for chicken. Which they did. The food was fantastic too. Perfectly cooked and married so well with the flavors they offered on the plate. I was very impressed. Now you’re probably wondering by this point, why am I not giving this place 5 stars, it sounds like a great experience. Well here is why. Our waiter, bless her, so nice, was just not there. The place wasn’t that busy so to have a long wait to order our food, have our food come out, refills, etc. was irritating. We were never brought bread, and it would take at least 2 requests for our waiter to actually bring out what we had asked for. Also our server never cleaned our table. Not after our appetizers or main meal. We had a table stacked with dirty dishes that, at a place like this, and the prices on the menu, you would think it would be common knowledge to clear the table as you go. Also with any of the seafood dishes, you get jipped. My co-worker ordered the scallops. He got 3. Really? $ 20 dish and you get 3 scallops? Needless to say he was still very hungry. The food — check The atmosphere — check Wine list — check service — fail

Each time I visit my brother’s family in Lansing, I check out this restaurant. It has the best patio in town and great happy hour and Sunday specials. But what I really enjoyed most outside of the food is the Troppotini– a fabulous martini that is made of vodka infused raspberries. And it is under $ 10. This place is a bit on the expensive side but if you go on Sunday you’ll get a third off. Overall I like it. But I don’t know if I would go on a day that isn’t Sunday or happy hour. Paying 20 bucks for chicken marsala in downtown Lansing doesn’t seem justifiable to me.

Troppo has a great location! It’s right next to the state capitol, and I had a great view of it from my seat at the patio. I was worried about service due to the reviews left by previous Unilocalers, so I tried to come in with low expectations. I do agree that service leaves a bit to be desired. On the bright side, our waitress was nice and seemed to try her best, so I can’t hold that against her. We tried: –pork chop a la troppo: I really liked this!!! I thought the pork chop came out medium well, as I requested. I also liked the mashed potatoes. However, I wasn’t a fan of the apples that came with it. It reminded me of an apple cinnamon candle, haha. Don’t let it deter you though bc the bf liked the apples a lot. –delmonico au poivre: I think this was a ribeye that was cooked well. In fact, I think it was closer to the medium rare we requested than Capitol Prime! –troppotini w/mandarin oranges: I thought this would be too vodka-y for me, but I really enjoyed how sweet and citrus-y the vodka tasted! –drunken strawberry shortcake: this was really good as well! Unilocal almost scared me away from Troppo, but I’m glad I gave it a chance. You should too!

I’ve been twice now. Troppo is probably as «high-end» as you’ll find in Lansing. That said the food could be better for the price. Their wine and cocktail selection is excellent. Their beer selection was not so excellent. The Venue is beautiful and the wait staff is very good but, at $ 20 an entrée they damned well better be. I had the Peasant Pasta salad, which was tasty. A sausage appetizer, which was expensive. And a steak that wasn’t very memorable. It was all fine. I have no major complaints besides the price. It’s a good special date night restaurant. But, it’s not worth going to unless you’re trying to avoid the«poor» people who can’t afford to eat their with regularity. And, I’ll be honest — that’s really what brings their regulars in.

I want to love Troppo. Really. I do. Lansing is in need of a high-end, I’m-treating-you-to-a-nifty-business-lunch kind of place. For me, it just never quite gets there. Mac and cheese is pretty good. Not $ 13 good. Salmon anything tastes like it was frozen, not fresh. The food is pretty much the exact same as their sister stop, Tavern on the Square, but double the price. And, generally speaking, I leave feeling«meh» about the experience and still hungry. Ownership is great and the place has a nice vibe. I don’t mind paying a price for a classy Lansing if the food can learn to catch up.
