Lapeer Country Club has been in my golfing rota dating back to 1981. In those days it was a little white office building with starter’s shack and a small putting green. The fairways were hard pan then and you’d play«winter rules» most of the way ’round the golf course. TIMESHAVECHANGED… and for the better. LCC now boasts a full-fledged clubhouse and party room. They book wedding receptions left-and-right on weekends. The building itself is beautiful with high A-frame ceiling and plenty of guest space. There is a nice watering hole inside and that’s just the facility. Golf has come a long way and its loads of fun. The golf course has grass from tee to green. Loads of it. There aren’t any dirt patches you can find unless you’re hitting shots Out-Of-Bounds. The fairways are thick and the greens are fast. And LCC’s greens have a tilt to them that is the course’s best defense as it’s short — running about 6200 yards max’d out. I don’t know when it happened but the two 9-holes have been flipped. So my hole #1 is now #10. The change doesn’t seem to fit my head’s approach. One thing is hole #18 is now a Par 3 that runs 175 — 215 yards. I don’t like golf courses that end on a Par 3. The change may have been made because before golfers rode from #9 to #10 and didn’t pass by/thru the clubhouse. Now, you park after #9 and get watered and fed if you like — smart management — and I can surely live with it. Don’t forget. The Lake Inn, a lovely way to recap a round of golf over basket goodies and cold brew, sits about 250 yards away from the entrance to Lapeer CC. Play golf? Play Lapeer CC and enjoy!
