I ordered a cheese burger and the bun was over sized and was frozen at one time. The bun fell apart after the first bite. The topping for the buyer were on there when I received it making it soggy in the middle and hard outside. I asked them if they toasted the bun and they said that they did I opened it and it was covered with butter without a single seer mark. The hamburger was not seasoned at all go to SAMs before you spend 10 dollars on this so called gourmet burger

Oh man! I feel I have to give this place five stars after the burger that I had tonight. I went into Detroit Burger Bar in Lapeer Michigan looking for a solid half pound burger at least. I would’ve even gone for a full pound burger have they offered one but the next size up was 2 pounds and it seemed like a little too much. So when my waitress came over to get my order I asked for the half pound Ruben burger featuring corn beef, Swiss cheese, and thousand Island dressing. I asked her to cook it blue rare. She asked me what blue rare meant. So I told her to just tell the chef and he’d know what to do. What she brought back was the sweetest, juiciest, rarest burger I have ever had. Every inch of that burger was heaven. The first layer is a pillowy bun that’s been butter fried on both sides and soaking up juices ever since being plated 3 minutes before. Then it’s on to the burger and corned beef. I had to stop after the first bite to remark at just how little chewing I was doing. Between the tenderness of the corned beef, the rare ½ pound beef patty, and the bun that’s nearly leaking juice like a sponge, you can almost drink this burger. The thousand island perfectly accentuates the corned beef which has hints of what tastes like nutmeg. In short, I’ve lived all over the country. I’ve been to Zippy’s Giant Burgers in Seattle and Detroit Burger Bar stacks up every bit as much. Wish they had a 1 pound option, but let’s be honest. It’s not going to stop me from going back. Way to keep it real, guys.

Great spot for lunch if you’re looking for bar food. Burgers are good but the chicken is top notch… chicken cesar pita, chicken fajita wrap, and chicken salad. Good atmosphere and Tuesday’s are half off lunch.

Reuben sliders = Delicious. Russell St = Delicious. Cheese was ooey gooey like it should be. Contrary to another review, these burgers are definitely not frozen! My husband is a stickler about fresh burger. I had a Lizzie Borden. Not knowing what it was, the bartender was most helpful and made a great drink. The weather tonight is dreadful. 6−10″ of snow. Yet there is still a small crowd. We’ll most definitely be back!

I think if they took 10 seconds to hand patty fresh quality burgers rather then serve run of the mill pre made patties they would see a 10 fold increase in business. Surprised because burger is in the name… Everything else was good especially the waffle fry’s.

Just want to say that on sept.14 myself and 5 others reserverd a table. The place was hopping. We left for a few while waiting our turn for a table… there was a group of 5 waiting as well. This group accused the owner of seating us out of turn. This is so far from the truth. … like i said we left for a few. And came back… then this group PULLS the race card… because of there race we were seated frist. Lol. This is such a joke… All i can say is trying to pull the race card is crazy… this restaurant is great and you should of asked why we were seated frist… Food is great… service is great…

Really enjoy the food. I’ve had the Lapeer Wrap(SOGOOD) and a Burger. Both were very tasty. Can’t give a full five stars, service was a bit slow, and it’s so small, so seating is crammed. Kids loved the tater tots Monday’s they have half off a dinner if you buy a drink.

I am a local resident, I try to spread my money around and we are fortunate to have some nice dining options in Lapeer. That being said I will not be returning to Old Detroit for no other reason that I do not like to have anyone’s ideology jammed down my throat. Its as simple as me asking for the bartender to put on CNN so I might get an update as to what was happening in Baltimore. When I looked up the TV was on Fox news — I was ready to grin and bare it until the manager actually walked up and told me that Fox news was the only news channel the owner allowed on because CNN was too bias. I don’t watch Fox News — I rarely watch cable news at all and for some you may think this is silly — but to be told — this is all we allow on the TV? — well his bar his rules — I respect that. But as for me and my hard earned dollar — I will not be going back to Old Detroit Burger Bar here in Lapeer, Lake Orion or 24th Street in Oxford and I will be encouraging my friends and family do avoid the place as well. I thoroughly enjoyed the Old Classic Detroit burger. Everything from the presentation to taste was spot on. A nice toasty bun, fresh veggies, and a well seasoned burger topped with swiss cheese was well worth the wait. I must say these were the best fries I’ve had all year. Great flavor, super hot, and super crispy but not greasy. I do have one tiny complaint. Those tiny little straws they use… The ones that look like coffee stirrers… Please get normal sized drinking straws. These are really annoying. If you’re in Lapeer the Old Detroit Burger Bar is worth stopping in.

Great Michigan themed restaurant in downtown Lapeer. We had the slider basket, the Warren Ave burger with waffle fries, and the classic Detroit burger with tots. Both food and service were excellent. We’ll definitely be going back again. Also loved seeing local wines and beers on the menu!

Great food, great service, and nice ambience! It’s so nice that Lapeer has good restaurants downtown! I love their beer list, too. The burgers are huge and delicious. My favorites are the Russell Street and the Vernor, but my family has enjoyed every one they’ve tried. I highly recommend this restaurant if you’re in the mood for an excellent burger and brew!

(Homer Simpson voice) Mmmm Burger. This place, to me, has some amazing burgers. Some unusual ones at that. The service is ok. It’s a hit or miss. And I think the place is waaaayy to small for the business they are getting. It’s often I feel cramped, and even though I don’t mind it, I’m usual up in the other tables grill. Can be awkward. They also have really amazing chicken dumpling soup.

Old Detroit: Overall rating 4.5 out of 5 The Old Detroit is a hidden gem in downtown Lapeer. This restaurant and bar has been carefully thought out to serve a broad market of individuals rightfully claiming a part of the great city of Detriot and its sports heritage. Below is my best assessment of my personal experience at this establishment. My overall assessment is a 4.5 because I believe there is always some improvement to be made. My basic recommendations are listed below but are not indicative of other people’s reviews; however, these suggestions are things I would pay more money for. That being said, at the current price point, this establishment is doing a service to the local community by offering good food, spirits, and R&R in a town of hard working people proud to claim Detroit as their own. Analysis Food: 4 Pro: Hot, delicious and right on time. Tots were made to order(crispy, aka well done) Con: Be honest, frozen premade patties or handmade? Veg option(bean patty) seemed to be premade frozen, suggest homemade bean patty, pretzel buns, homemade buns? Source more sustainable/local food Price: 4 Pro: appropriately priced for the quality(Order: 2 burgers, 2 salads, 1 app, 3 beers = $ 50) Cleanliness: 5 Pro: Table was clean and neatly set, bathrooms facilities were also clean Menu: 4 Pro: Burger names are fun and representative, large list of salad offerings Con: Suggest adding seafood options(salmon burger, crab cake sliders, shrimp as a meat substitute on any salad). Also, suggest the option to make any named burger into a salad. Dietary restrictions could prevent customers from taking part in the core menu offerings/fun of the named burgers. Beer: 5 Pro: Beer list is current, long list of local Michigan beer offerings Con: Need more beer on tap? Suggest offering local ciders. Put a bit more emphasis on local wines as well. Beer has many dietary restrictions and wine pairs well with burgers. Décor: 4 Pro: Detroit pictures and license plates are an amazing touch Con: Suggest adding more artistic pictures sourced from and including the people making Detroit what it was(Henry Ford, GM assembly line workers, ect). Ask your customers and see what pictures are out there. Ambiance: 4 Pro: Music was appropriate and not too loud Con: Lighting seemed a bit bright and there is a TV in the dining area(TV in bar only would be better and help move squatters), front windows could use some tint. Service: 5 Pro: Jenna was a total rock star. She made my family dinner a VIP experience that will ward another visit all the way from Cali. She also split our orders to make our entrée choices much easier to share and because of this I was able to easily taste 4 different menu items. Next time I am only in town for a day I will be sure to visit again. Specials: 5 Pro: Drink specials, Con: No weekly food specials, chef’s special, rotating menu items

Been here a few times now. The place is very small and the service a little lacking. They do offer a few burgers with a unique combinations. I haven’t gone wrong with any as of yet. They are by far the best burger joint in lapeer. I can get an over cooked burger nearly anywhere. They don’t do a lot of items on the menu but they aim for the best at what they do. I wish more places kept their menus small. Better quality, fresher ingredients. Overall great addition to lapeer.

Weirdly slow service for not being busy. The space is too small and you squeeze in next to the neighboring table. Food is okay. A burger is only appetizing every so often but in lapeer there are many places offering good burgers in Lapeer along with other items.

Pros: features Michigan made beers and Detroit style burgers and coneys all named after Detroit streets beautiful bartender that pours a stiff drink. Cons: very small bar and had to sit next to Beavis and Butthead. They must have said the F word and dude 10 times a. minute Overall. Burger joint with. Michigan beers and theme not bad.

Had the Warren Avenue burger and it was delicious! Greasy green olive goodness. Good selection of Michigan microbrews and large HDTVs that were perfect to watch both the Tigers and Red Wings simultaneously that day. The bartenders were on top of things too even though the place was full. I especially liked the vintage Michigan license plates since I have a collection of my own. Not sure if they serve ice cream, but it would be a great touch if they had Vernor’s floats. *hint*…*hint*… I will definitely stop by again.
