FUNPLACE if you like drinking in a dark storage warehouse like you were in the prohibition! Great brews thought. Just have to stand the whole time cause I don’t like sitting on kegs like I was back in high school. But for LaPorte Indiana what can you expect. I say GOOOANDENJOY!

Great brewery and good beer that has been around long before the current craze. This is not a fancy place — just a place to try their great beer.

It seems like the longer this whole«craft beer» thing keeps going, the more snobby the so called enthusiasts get. That’s why I love Back Road. This cozy little place is just perfect.

First of all, you have to be aware of what you are getting in to. The pictures of this place are helpful. Basically, you are going to drink beer in a warehouse. The beer is all good. I like the IPA, but will always purchase the blueberry ale when in season. Unfortunately, if you want to purchase a pack to take with you, you are better off going to a liquor store in the area. The selection of bottles on hand are limited. The taps change week to week or season to season. You can grab a shirt or glass if you would like. People are friendly, you can tour the equipment and make new friends.

A reminder, this is a review on the business, not the beer alone. I was anxious to try Back Road as I have heard a lot of great things about their product. I ordered my beer and was surprised to be handed a good beer in a plastic cup. I was actually a little upset to have paid $ 5 for it as well. I should note that you can pay a couple extra bucks and purchase a pint glass to drink from Anyway, truth be told if I brewed one beer a year that was a Bud Light clone, I would never put my product in plastic. I do think it changes the taste and really gives an image that you could care less about what you’re serving. Lastly, I was really put off by the staff as well. The large walk-in cooler door was opened directly into my wife by a staff member coming out. He looked at my wife with an expression of «you shouldn’t have been standing in front of the door» on his face. Ordinarily, I would have agreed with him. However, the cooler is directly in front of the bar where you order your beer. I watched two other people get hit with no apology. It may have been a fluke and just this one day so I do plan on giving it a second chance but there will need to be a lot of ground made up. Everyone in my group had a feeling as though we should be grateful to have been there to have a beer. Other than that, the building is awesome.

This brewery is nothing fancy and it’s not trying to be. They run small batches of craft beer and have been doing so since way before the craft beer movement took off. Back Roads is most well known regionally for their blueberry beer, which while not really my thing, is quite good for a fruit beer. When visiting last weekend, they had a blueberry stout on draft that I thought was quite good. The staff here are very friendly and know a lot about their product. They will sample the beer for you, and you can buy a pint for a sweet $ 4. I really wish they kept regular bar hours, as this would certainly be a stop I made more often when visiting family in LaPorte! It’s like hanging out in someone’s really, really awesome basement.

I’ve become accustomed to drinking Back Roads whenever I am at Nowhere Bar and Grill. Sadly, I never thought to much of them. Yes they were leaps and bounds above your bud/miller but also not the ZOMGTHISISTEHAW3SOM#… Then about a year ago, I started making visits to the brewery itself… yes, I got the ZOMGTHISISTEHAW3SOM#. I am a beer nerd but not one of those types that gets off doing brewery tours, but this place I like. Their tap room is nothing special… actually its a bit of a hole in the wall, but their brewing equipment is impressive… and more importantly, the beer they were pouring was freakin fantabulous. Dear Back Roads, that saison you brewed last year and slowly distributed over the next 6 months, that was on par with the best saisons put out by the beer snobbiest breweries this country has to offer. I am a hard earned bandwagon member for that beer alone. You would be a fool for not continuously brewing that and/or should be dragged out to the street and shot.(also the prices you were offering it at were criminally low, please do not wise up to this fact, as it would ruin the experience that I felt I was making moonshine runs even if it was only for my own personal consumption) Their in-house tap lineup crosses many disciplines and straight up have never had a beer there that wasn’t spot on. One specific shining point I want to mention, is that I taste distinctly different beers. Far too often, you have a brewery and across the board all their beers have a distinct taste of that brewery(sierra, stone, victory, half acre, etc). I’ve given up on far too many breweries as a result, yes they have a

Fantastic micro brewery located in the heart of the«industrial» part of LaPorte, Indiana. Very limited distribution of several well crafted products – if you live outside NW Indiana or SE Michigan, good luck finding it! However, if you are lucky enough to be driving through LaPorte on any given Saturday afternoon(1−4pm), you’re in for a treat as the folks at Back Road open the doors for tastings, tours and sales of their beers in several different package options. The tour isn’t anything major – they will walk you through the brewing process, showcasing the grain, malt and hops currently being used for the current and upcoming batches. Pretty standard as far as the tour aspect goes, but that’s not the point. The beer is the point and they do that remarkably well. If you have a growler, bring it on in and they will clean and fill it with whatever they have tapped that afternoon; generally at least two of the current lineup is available for growler fills/refills. No growler – no problem; they will sell you one there on the spot. They also offer up a few different styles of glasses to enjoy your purchases in when you get them home. If a big jug of beer isn’t your thing, then check out the variety of 6-packs as well as 22 oz bottles and party pigs they have stocked in the cooler. I haven’t seen it for myself, but I have heard that they also offer their beers for sale in 1⁄6th barrel pub kegs, and offer growler refills on Sundays from 2 to 4pm. Do keep in mind when planning your trip to the Back Road Brewery that their hours are Central Time zone. Prost!
