I don’t know why but everytime I come here I get creeped out. They seem to have great deal’s and a wide variety. It just seems like a ghost town of groceries. I wish for them that people forget Walmart, Target, and Publix and restore Albertson’s to grocery glory…

Wish the other albertsons didn’t shut down! Love this grocery store! Great seafood selection!

For many years I enjoyed Albertson’s for certain offerings. Then Wal-Mart and Target creeped into our area with their new grocery sections and Albertson’s got almost totally squeezed out. It’s a shame it was not Kash ‘n Karry/Sweetbay! They tried to adapt, but eventually failed and have now merged with Winn Dixie, leaving us with far less grocery shopping options in Pinellas than previous years. Then a few years ago I discovered 2 Albertson’s still exist nearby! So I make the occasional West Ulmerton drive to get those rare gems that made Albertson’s GREAT! Let’s get the bad out first… All of their produce is overpriced, even more expensive than Publix. Best off to just avoid this section entirely, but I always wonder why this is so? The rest of their dairy, frozen, or «middle aisle,» processed foods are like most all markets, meaning… If not buying BOGO or with a coupon, expect to pay full price. As for«Why the WOW Here?» Both the deli and bakery areas are great! Both always have genuine deals and more importantly, selections not seen elsewhere. The real kicker is their FRESH meat/seafood counter! I almost hesitate to share…(I don’t want to wait in line any longer!). You can get the best fresh fish, shrimp, or crab legs here. Publix most often charges almost double. Avid home cooks should visit here at least once! Finally… It is their freshly ground beef that hooked me. That stuff out of their fresh counter is even better than Publix’s Greenwise. So whether it is just for meatloaf, sloppy joe’s, Italian meat sauce, Tex-Mex tacos, or just a humble, home-cooked hamburger? It has a real BEEF flavor. All else nearby is just not as great. It’s that very special Albertson’s meat counter that keeps me coming back! And just one final hint… That soaked«7-Up Yellow Bundt Cake» in the chilled bakery case? YES! It is all you imagine and then some! Ok… Maybe I shared too much here? (Eh, I’d rather see this placed packed than gone, so maybe in an updated review, I will share more secrets to be found?)…

Went shopping at Albertsons’ at largo mall and I was not crazy about it. I thought the prices would be lower than publix but I was wrong. It’s like a ghost town in this store. You want to run to the middle of the isle and yell«where is everybody?» There is a very bad smell in some of the isles but the store looks clean and well stocked. I will only go there if there is no other option.

I recently wrote about the catty-corner Publix«Welcome to shopping 6 years ago.» Well, this Albertson’s is like shopping 25 years ago which, come to think of it, is probably the last time I’ve been in an Albertson’s. All the greatest hits were there; the preponderance of packaged foods, the hard fluorescent lighting, the paradoxically hard-on-the-eyes pastel color scheme. We came here because my cousin found a coupon for a rib roast and was intent on using it. Granted, it was a pretty good price. However, we ended up in Publix 15 minutes later since we couldn’t find anything else we needed. Organic? Gluten-free? Those are 21st century concepts, son. Albertson’s will have none of that nonsense. Now jump back in your DeLorean, make like a tree, and get out of here! But hey, compared to the Publix, the lines are short. They’ll take forever because, chances are you’ll be behind an 80 year old bluehair writing out a check, but you live in Florida and that’s bound to happen anyway. Two stars.

This location was constructed as a Jewel-Osco — that arm of the Albertson’s empire now relegated primarily to the Midwest — which explains its mammoth size. An average Albertson’s easily would fit in here twice; the pharmacy section alone is the equivalent of a mini-Walgreen’s outlet. As is often the case, bigger doesn’t mean better. The deli department is outstanding, with a considerably wider selection and much lower prices than you’ll find at the new Publix across the street. But most of the produce looks like end-of-the-day pickings at a farmers’ market, the bakery is surprisingly small(everything is baked on the premises, but the bread is mediocre, although bagels and artisan rolls are better than average), choices in fresh meat and seafood are limited, and there’s not much variety among the brands of packaged and canned goods they stock. Much of the space is devoted to non-food items — household, school/office, and automotive supplies, kitchenware, bath accessories, and even patio furniture and barbecues. Beer drinkers will appreciate the walk-in cooler(roughly the size of my studio apartment), and there’s an adjacent liquor store with a separate entrance. What appears to be severe understaffing results in there being no one to assist you in the aisles(cluttered with boxes of unshelved merchandise) and few open registers. The $ 1 sales are worth checking out, but I wouldn’t opt to shop here on a regular basis.
