I am glad I waited to write this review. I got my hair done in havana twist on August 16th. I had no issues. It was done quickly and my hair looked nice when I left. I generally wear my hair up in a bun because of work and she was nice enough to pin it up for me before I left. I sleep with a wrap scarf around it and a bonnet. On the 21st(1 week later) I get out the car and an entire twist has come out from the back row of my hair. I reached out that night so this could be fixed. Friday morning I get a response and without posting the actual replies it seemed as if I was supposed to work around her schedule in order to get my hair fixed. Keep in mind it has been a week exactly. I don’t wear braids/twist a lot but I expect most people aren’t dealing with fallout when done by a professional within a week. After several text exchanges finally I was told to come whenever worked for me. At this point I’m upset because it took 4 – 5 hours to get her to agreed to that and although I knew she had other clients/commitments, customer service says let me handle this quickly and with a smile on my face. I couldn’t figure out how putting one twist back into my head(which took less than 1 minute) was such a hassle that I had to jump through hoops? I could see had it been in the middle of my head I wouldn’t have been so pressed to get it done but as I said I have to wear my hair pinned up so with it being at the nape of my neck that wouldn’t be a good look. Plus I don’t have short hair. My hair is shoulder length so why twist are coming out I still don’t know and when she reluctantly fixed it she didn’t offer any explanations. Fast forward 2 days later the rest of the back begin to come out. Pissed doesn’t even begin to describe what I felt. I didn’t even bother calling her again. I jolly rigged this mess for now because I had to go out of town for work but this weekend it is all coming up. Basically I feel like I was taking for $ 120 but it’s my fault for trying to be cheap. You get what you pay for. Next time I will simply pay the $ 200 the nigerians wanted. Least then I know I am getting a product that will last at least 6 weeks. The only reason I’m giving this 2 stars is because I felt bad giving it 1 since it was cute when I left the shop. shrug.

My daughter’s god sister had to move out of town; therefore, I rarely have anyone in the family who can do her hair as I do not know how to do hair. Jamesha has been doing my daughter’s hair for over a year now. My daughter is 7 years old and has very thick, long, crimply/frizzy hair. In the past, I would get rather frustrated because I would pay so much money to get her hair done but it would end up looking frizzy in less than a week to include other unprofessional issues. Jamesha is consistently professional and excellent with children. She is gentle with her hands. Ever since Jamesha has been doing my daughter’s hair, her hair lasts anywhere between 2 – 3 weeks and it’s never too tight. This is very good because I don’t have to worry about hair bumps from her hair being pulled too tight. Our schedules are crazy and these economic times are tight so it feels good to know that I don’t have to worry about my daughter’s hair not lasting. Jamesha is always professional. Another thing I love about her is that she is always on time. There are many stylists in the DMV area who do not respect people’s time and some places I have had to sit for many hours so I am very thankful to have found Done Up Right Salon. Jamesha is very flexible with hours. Her services have been a blessing to our family. This is one less stress we don’t have to deal with on our list. Take your kids to Done Up Right. You will not be disappointed.

I was tired of «fighting» my girls to get their hair done and vowed after our last session that I would find a stylist who did quality children’s hair styles. I did some Internet research and even called another child stylist that I found on Unilocal who had good reviews. After leaving two messages and texting, I figured she wasn’t going to call me back so I started asking my coworkers. A coworker told me about Jamesha because her friend takes her daughter to Done Up Right. I gave her a call and she was very nice and so I made an appointment to take my two girls(5 years and 19 months) to see her almost about 3 weeks ago. My 5 year old was VERY scared to get her hair washed and handled by someone other than me since she’d had a bad hair experience at another popular children’s salon 19 months ago when I had my other daughter. Her hair is medium length, coarse, and dense. She’s petrified of the hair wash no matter who it is and I warned Jamesha about that. She was very understanding and even empathized because she hated getting her hair washed over the sink as a child, too. She immediately told my oldest that and talked to her a bit before getting started to warm her up. Amazingly, she didn’t cry ATALL. Jamesha took her time, washed her several times to make sure her hair was clean, and conditioned her. She suggested a deep condition the next visit, but didn’t want to do that on the first visit since she didn’t want to make her uncomfortable.(Good idea.) She detangled and blow-dried her hair and did a really cute style that my daughter(and I) loved. My 19 month old was a bit of a different story. She had never gotten her hair done by anyone other than me and she’d never had it blow-dried. Jamesha talked her through it and again, accomplished a hair wash and condition without tears. She even got her blow-dried(on low heat and not bone straight) without any issues. My 19 month old wasn’t interested in sitting still for very long about halfway through it but Jamesha was very patient, cornrowed when she could in whatever awkward position she could catch her, and when all else failed, she just gave my youngest a break and started on my oldest. Hours later, they were both done in the prettiest styles and I was a happy mom. I booked my follow up appointment for 3 weeks later. Fast forward 3 weeks, both of their hair styles held up well! The baby’s was a bit fuzzy, but she also has softer baby hair that gets fuzzy a little quick, but my oldest daughter’s hair was still in great shape. We came in and because of the holiday busyness, I didn’t get a chance to take my oldest daughter’s hair out. Jamesha charged a small fee for take down but I was thankful that she wasn’t terribly annoyed and agreed to take them out. Hours later, again, both of my girls had great hairstyles and both of them had deep conditioning treatments at Jamesha’s suggestion. She uses quality products and doesn’t have any problems using products you bring in as well. She really cares for the health of her clients’ hair. She did such a great job on my girls that the next day I came back to have my hair done. I am also natural like my girls and was looking for a cute, protective style. Jamesha washed, conditioned, and deep conditioned my hair before blow drying it and braiding it up for my crochet braid style. She makes the neatest cornrows and she’s very light-handed. No edge pulling and unnecessary hair bumps from her! LOL. She did the crochet braids and even went back in and trimmed and shaped to my liking without any complaints. Overall, Jamesha is professional, courteous, and she takes her time. She’s not a «in and out/give me the money» type of stylist. She’s a breath of fresh air. Take your children(and you) to see her for great hair!
