I’ve never been to New Orleans and never experienced any style of cajun inspired food. Until a coworker recommended the place to me, I didn’t even know what a Po Boy was… Fast forward a couple of weeks and I’ve now been to Gulf Coast Po Boys twice. The first time I got the Blackened chicken. My coworker was ready to kill me during lunch because I kept blurting out«this is f’ing amazing» while still having a mouth full of food. The 2nd time I got the Andouille Sausage as well as the Red Beans and Rice. It was equally as delicious as the first time… Word of warning, this place isn’t exactly easy on the eyes. It is the very definition of a «hole in the wall». But they have a nice little patio set up out front as well as a small counter inside where you can look out the window while you eat. The two gentlemen that I am assuming own the place, are the only employees and they are both extremely nice guys who will make you feel right at home… I love this place and can’t wait to go back. If you give it a chance, you’ll love it too.

The food, in a word, is amazing. Clean, simple, delicious and down perfectly. I had the fried shrimp po boy. The shrimp couldn’t have been cooked better. The guy who worked there was fun and personable. We were staying in Clearwater so this is a little off the normal touristy path but absolutely worth it. A perfect little spot.

Location: Gulf Coast Po Boys(West Bay Drive) Date: 4-20-2016 Time: 1200 This is a great example of how Unilocal is beneficial to not only local business owners… but also customers in search of good eats. It was lunch hour and I was in an unfamiliar local… so out comes my Unilocal app to help guide me to something yummy. With almost 100 great reviews and a dish that I am a big fan of, my sights were locked on to Gulf Coast Po Boys. This is a place that would go virtually unnoticed without the help of the digital age’s word of mouth(social apps). I arrived ~1200 hrs. and parked right in front of the tiny sandwich shop. It had one two-top inside, a small counter(seats two comfortably) and ~ four tables outside. I ordered from the owner and was advised to «make yourself at home and lunch will be out shortly». That sentiment pretty much sums up this place. Blackened Shrimp Po Boy($ 9.95)\ I ordered the blackened shrimp po boy which comes with a drink and side of potato chips. The po boy came to the counter in short order and looked delightful. It had a great amount of shrimp and some wonderful accoutrements(house made remoulade /tartar sauce and house made cole slaw) don’t even try them… just pile them on. I don’t even particularly like cole slaw… but this one was great, fresh and with a good amount of pickley tartness. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and the blackening spices added another layer of charred spiciness that worked well with the sauces and slaw. The chips that were a choose your own variety, were straight from Louisianan and a great side for a lunch offering. Did I mention I got the entire meal for just under $ 10.00? Overall this is a perfect lunch spot… just what I look for in a fast, friendly and great tasting place for a quick meal that is off the beaten path. The great food combined with the great service, local flair and affordability make this place a must stop if you are in the area.

Absolutely one of the best po boys in the area. This place is the real deal. Everything fresh and flavorful. The owner is extremely friendly and attentive. Simple but delicious food. Every bite of the shrimp po boy(fried, of course) is perfection. It’s not overly fried like some seafood places; just the right amount of batter. They also have sauces made in house. If you’re in the mood for a po boy, go here and don’t ask questions.

Good quality food. A little stingy with the portions. Was very disappointed they didn’t have oysters and really couldn’t say when they would have. Seem a little lost on how to run a business. But as I said good quality on what I had!

This Place is Delicious! Best Po’ Boys around! Take everything they give you. The spicy spread, tarter, ANDCOLESLAW which is vinegar based(no mayo) and put it on your sandwich. Very good, with just the right amount of slight kick from the spices, and zip from the coleslaw. Love The food, and owners are very nice. This is a very small hole in the wall type place. 8 seats outside, and 2 stools inside. My kind of place :-) you all know I love hole in the walls. I sat on the stool inside, and people watched out the window. Their customers are very friendly. Talkative. That was a great sign for me that I was about to get something good to eat. Happy talkative customers waiting, means good food. It takes a bit of time if it’s busy because they are cooking in one small area, but no one seemed to mind at all, even me. The owners apologized for the wait, and everyone was like, Oh No problem. No problem at all. Like I said, it’s because they knew they were about to get something good. It’s worth the wait. Also, Barley Mow is pretty much next door too. How convenient. I’ll be back

The Po Boys are the greatest. This is s must try if you are in the area or even if you are not. The food is great. The andouille is awesome. Grilled or fried shrimp Po boys are awesome too. Mike and Anthony make for a great dining experience. Lunch can be crowded so get there early Steve

Great PO boys. Small place local must love. They were out of shrimp, but blackened chicken is great also. Outside tables or small counter seating only. Food cooked fresh to order so maybe consider takeout picnic.

Decided to try out this place while I was visiting the area. While this isn’t a place I would normally stop by based on the appearance, this hole in the wall is definitely worth the visit. The service is 5-stars and the food is amazing with a very reasonable price. I had the blackened fish Po’ Boy which comes w a side of slaw. It had the perfect amount of spice and seasoning. Despite living in NOLA and having my fair share of Po’ Boys, this was one of the better ones I’ve ever had. Based on the great service and delicious food, I would definitely stop by again and suggest this place to others. Geaux Tigers!

Stopped here for a lunch based on the Unilocal recommendations and it did not disappoint. I had Red Beans and Rice with Andouille sausage — EXCELLENT! I didn’t have a single grain of rice left on my plate!!! Hubby had a Fried Shrimp Po Boy… YUM — the shrimp was fried just right, the batter was not at all heavy and had great flavor. The remoulade was homemade and was a perfect compliment to the shrimp on the sandwich, and he got a little side of tartar which was also delicious(I dipped a runaway shrimp into that). We both liked the vinegary cole slaw, and the Voodoo kettle chips. Quick attentive service… My only regret is I don’t live in FL and can’t come eat here more often. Two thumbs up!

Great local joint with excellent food and friendly customer service. Gotten several varieties of the po boys and it never disappoints. Tried their Cajun fries and it is served hot and fresh with nice flavor. I default to this place whenever I want a satisfying sandwich for lunch.

Never a bad move to go to Gulf coast Po’ Boys for some authentic and delicious southern comfort food. I like calling in for takeout on my way home from work. I’m 24. When I arrive I pay and there’s dinner! Go local! I recommend the dinner salad blackened fish. Also the camp menu is good. Can’t go wrong with jumbo shrimp po boys either… Mm cannot wait to eat my dinner now! Don’t forget the New Orleans voodoo chips… Ooooo so savory

Oh my goodness! Have to give this place 5 stars, the blackened shrimp, the fresh fish! I had it crescent city style which is rice, beans, and vinegar slaw. This was the first time I had vinegar slaw and I prefer it totally to the sweet /mayo base! Tartar sauce was great and there was a remoulade too that was super yummy. Great place for lunch, sit outside in the sun and just relax!
