While in Las Cruces on business I managed to empty half of a water bottle into my laptop bag and didn’t realize it for about an hour. Needless to say, there was some damage and laptop would not turn on. Desperate get to the data locked inside my now worthless(but still quite valuable) machine, I searched for IT repair shops on my smart phone and nothing was open. I decided to give Unilocal a try and BINGO! I found PC Repair To Go and the owner, Colin Salazar. Colin works out of his home, which happened to be very close to my hotel. I sent a message through Unilocal describing my predicament to which he responded that very evening! He gave me the address to his home(workshop) and when I showed up bright and early the next morning, he answered the door, invited me in, and we immediately sat down at the dining room table and he got to work diagnosing the mess I had made. Within minutes Colin had good news, no data was lost. He removed the hard drive and explained how the information could be easily transferred(to the backup laptop my dear husband was sending via FedEx First Overnight, but that’s another story!) using a SATA to USB connector(huh?) which is available at Best Buy. It turns out Best Buy doesn’t carry SATA to USB connectors in stock anymore, so I called Colin again. With the backup laptop and the hard drive from the fried one, I showed up at Colin’s front door, bright and early again. He invited me in, and we immediately sat down at the dining room table as he got to work saving me from the mess I had made. Before long all the data I needed was on the functional laptop and only the video card would need to be replaced. Colin explained absolutely everything he did, every step of the way. He went above and beyond what I expected and I really learned a lot from him. I have a single regret about this experience, he offered to order the needed part and get my fried machine in working order again, but I declined. I wasn’t going to be in New Mexico again until next year and I thought it would be easier to have the repair done at home. I was wrong. This happened almost two weeks ago and I’m still using my backup. Thank you Colin!
