Melody Sweets, the Green Fairy from Absinthe, organized this special showing with help from Frank Marino’s Divas(so she said) to benefit the UNLV College of Fine Arts. Titled«Big Top Circus and Burlesque!», Melody’s show was more burlesque and comedy than circus but highly entertaining nonetheless. Tickets for the general public were $ 20 – 25, but UNLV students gained admission to the event for only $ 15! The show was just around an hour and ten minutes long. The show got off to a late start. It was supposed to start at midnight but they didn’t actually start admitting people in until a little after 12AM. The show eventually started at 12:30AM. They say there isn’t a bad seat in the house at the Spiegeltent at Caesars Palace, but I’d disagree. The seats are basic, i. e., uncomfortable, chairs bound together by zip ties. At least they’re eclectic! There’s no rise to the seating, so if you’re sitting behind someone taller than you, you’re SOL. The stage is in the center and all the chairs are arranged in a circle around it. I will say this, during some parts of the show the stage does rise, giving the audience a better view of the performers. The show started off with a comedic rendering of the national anthem, most of which I did not see because of poor viewing. After Melody Sweets and the whole cast did their opening number, the first act was an aerial act with two women who hung above the audience twirling about on a large hoop. There was some accidental nipple action(clothing malfunction), but the performer just grinned and kept performing, nipple out and all. The second acts was when a large older woman came out covered in balloons and smoking a cigarette, popping her balloons till she was practically naked. The third main act was another female duo doing breathtaking acrobatic stunts above the audience in the air. The finale was a tight rope act that literally had me holding my breath. All the major acts were filled with smaller comedic acts, the favorite of which was when an older gentleman went on stage in whitey tighties and did a «strong man» act with a blow up sex doll. Almost every act performed was greeted with a standing ovation. Melody Sweets had a few solo numbers and provided most of the musical aspects to the show. Me and my date overall really enjoyed the show. I would leap at the chance to see the next show Melody Sweets puts on. Unilocal100CHALLENGE2015: #159
