Easily 5 stars. My one holdout doctor in the 9 years since I have left the state of Texas has been my dermatologist. I like him and I don’t need one often, so I never looked for one except one time in Vegas where I had some issues — didn’t like that doctor and never went back. I was not looking for a derm until recently when I had an issue that required medical attention. I asked people I trust for a recommendation, and Dr. Markewich was highly recommended. His office is in the medical building at Sunrise Hospital which is literally an under-5 minute drive from work, so that turned out to be very convenient for me. I was very nervous before my first visit because I was told that there is a 4% surcharge on credit cards, including HSAs which frustrated me. However, I can get my HSA to reimburse myself, so I got over it. I was able to get Friday morning appointments on short notice so that was great. I got asked permission if a medical student could observe me, which was fine. The doctor came into the room wearing a Longhorn lanyard, and I felt immediately comfortable. It turns out that not only is he a fellow Longhorn, but also from my neighborhood in Texas, a grad of the same high school, and a former member of the same congregation where I grew up and got married. It truly is a small world. He diagnosed my issue and put me on antibiotics. All was great for 8 of the 10 day regimen until on my vacation in Arizona I had some sort of allergic reaction to the antibiotics. When I called his office, the doctor actually called me back after hours to discuss, which was helpful. I had to drive 5 hours back to LV from PHX so I could not get there before the office closed on Presidents Day, so I made an appointment for the next morning without any problems. He confirmed the reaction and put me on another medicine. I am happy to note that the prescription was like $ 3, so that was also great. Today I went to my final follow-up and am pretty much back to normal. He is very personable. I always got in and out of the office super fast, sometimes even before my appointment time. I had the first appointment of the day today and was in and out within 10 minutes of the appointment time, and that is unheard of in most doctor’s offices. I already received a bill for my first visit and the negotiated rate with my insurance is incredibly reasonable, way lower than I expected. I think I can handle mailing in a check. If you need a dermatologist, I recommend Dr. Markewich(dba A&B Dermatology).
