Master Toddy’s Muay Thai Academy

I need to go to Vegas. So far, I’ve settled for catching Master Toddy on his trips to SF. I took a weekend seminar of his; he’s such a jolly man. I still remember some of the more unique and humorous points he taught us.
I call this gym when I need more liniment. Even with shipping, it was cheaper than online or in SF. We always have confusion before the «liniment» = «oil» translation gap is bridged. But it’s all good. Kap koon ka!

My son started here a few months ago and he LOVES it, he is only 9 and he has caught on fast, the instructors are great, esp Kru Cindy. She is patient and firm with the kids and the respect her. Even the other instructors take an obvious interest in my child and always offer little tips and advice all the time. Sean will continue to train here as long as he wants too!!! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a positive place for their children.

I flew in to work out at Master Toddys. I paid for a private lesson it was $ 100 for an hours and they also threw in a group lesson.
I worked out with Master Wong. I believe he has moved on since I worked out with him.
I worked basic stance, shadow boxing technique, pad work, knees, punches etc.
I was exhausted afterwords what a great work out!
Private parking lot with plenty of parking. They treated me like a king when I got there full run of the place.
Very clean facility. The locker room was huge with shower, lockers and seating.
They have a full service equipment room where you can purchase anything you may have forgot or a something with Master Toddy’s name on it.
The staff was help full, engaging and fun to talk to.
If you are planning a trip to Vegas like I was add this in it’s only an hour and man a great work out.
The only thing bad is that I did not get to meet Master Toddy he was in Thailand. Maybe next time.

I trained at Master Toddys for almost 2 years. There are positives and negatives. The negatives carry the most weight.
Positive: Master Toddy obviously has more experience training in Muay Thai than anyone in the world. He has trained numerous champions. He can inspire.
Negative: Much of this was in the past. For the average student, Master Toddy is not inspiring. He was rarely present, and played favorites, especially with women. The prettier, the better. He still uses Gina Carano and others to advertise his gym, when they are no longer members. They do NOT train there.
Positive: There are three rings in the facility, and numerous heavy bags and pads.
Negative: They are absolutely disgusting. Both locker rooms are infested with bugs and BLACK MOLD. The 1 shower was NEVER cleaned the entire time I trained there. There is hair, dirt, grime, you name it throughout. Very unsanitary, unhealthy, and no one professional is hired to keep it clean. Sometimes he «lets» the girls clean in exchange for training with the «fight team.» Nice.
Negative: His office staff is horrible, as I see was written in a previous review. They obviously only care about making money and selling things, selling memberships. Questions you ask of them will never get answered. They are just kids, really. Some of them are fighters. I see below that someone wrote about a self-​righteous attitude. I would agree. There is a lot of drama. They like you or they don’t. I did not feel good about myself going to this gym.
Negative: No money is spent on the maintenance of this gym, nor the instructors. The best instructors have left. False advertising is common. A weight room? Please. 3 mismatching hand weights is about all. An ancient treadmill. That’s IT. Oh, you can run outside and jump on a tire. Good things to do, yes, but don’t advertise to be what you are not.
Negative: The photo on this page is not helpful, because that is Gina Carano, and she did get her start here, but is not a regular face. In two years, I saw her three times. Not training, just saying hi to Master Toddy. Again, with women, if you look like Gina Carano, you might get more attention and they might care about your training. Everyone else, they care about your membership dollars.
Semi-​positive: Its not all bad. I did learn to kickbox, and even won a fight. But that is not all I paid for. And I will not pay for it again.

I LOVE muay thai, so of course, I enjoyed my experience at Master Toddy’s! I haven’t trained there or anything, but I went for a fighting exhibition in which my school participated. They put on a good show! The bathrooms got pretty disgusting by the end of the night, I didn’t like how everyone was allowed to walk on their practice mats (maybe I have cleanliness OCD, but I like my gym’s «no shoes on the mat» policy), and there was no food to be had except for their eggrolls and noodles, which I was advised not to try.

Two things I noticed during my sessions here:
1. Positive reinforcement and motivational atmosphere directly proportional to the intensity of the training. I didn’t feel tarred and feathered, unlike in other facilities where it was pretty much «pulp the new guy.» One normally does not associate words such as «respect» and «good nature» with a roomful of people of all ages barking «kiai-​s» and going all out on pads and on form– and strength training, in an enclosed space… definitely a spectacle in and of itself. You don’t know «hard» core training until you’ve done a Thai workout… the kidneys shudder just thinking about it.
2. Despite the gruff, no-​nonsense image shown on the reality shows (MTV: Real Life and Fight Girls) that brought the man (and the gym) to public spotlight, Master Toddy is a REALLY chill, yet intense guy (if that makes any sense at all), as the other reviewers here have mentioned. I’m not going to lie, I was stoked yet equally intimidated walking into this place… but in the brief time I met with him and the other Thai trainers, I was very impressed with how down-​to-​earth they were, considering the veritable stable of champions they’ve molded.
The spartan nature of the facilities keeps things equal. i.e. the ranked guy trains with the same grungy pads as everyone else. And it’s not just all combat, either. Even if you have no intentions of improving your «stand-​up» and just want an alternative to the boring same-​old rat wheel at the gym, a lot of people are there for exactly the same reason. Besides, you can see the real top-​level badasses walking in and out of YOUR gym like it ain’t no thing. How cool is that? Must… commit…self, fully… in near future. =)=)

this place has an incredible training philosophy and workout routines. it was a refreshing pace from my other gym. i arrived in vegas on thrusday and that afternoon i was welcomed into the gym for a one day workout break from my vacation while in sin city.
master toddy is an intense firm trainer yet is incredibly down to earth and personable. i was very comfortable speaking to him and he came across as very genuine. i felt honored to have met him. the gym itself is small with 3 boxing rings and several areas for bags, weights etc. there is a steam and locker rooms with showers, also.
the space is less important then the training as there are many champions who grace and have graced these very walls. the fight team was working out next to us and it was very motivating to watch them.
though i was crushed i didnt see gina carano i did see ardra. wow wow wee wah. whaaat you dont know either? brudda you need to check em out.
i recommend this place to anyone who has experience in or thinking about doing muay thai. its a great place.
