This place just doesn’t seem to ever be open, still has hours on their website but here now during open hours and no one is here and there seems to be no sign of it opening.

So Ninth Island is a shaved ice place inside the New Downtown Grand Hotel. We finally were able to try it after it not being open ANY time we ever walked by it before. Weird. Day or night, we’d not found it open, so was glad to finally find a woman working there. They have shaved ice OR frozen drinks and I think some beer. We had a buy one get one free coupon for the shaved ice and I had a cherry & pineapple and the husband had a coconut pineapple. The shaved ice was good, but nothing spectacular and it’s true, I have been spoiled by Baltimore Snowballs. I guess you can pay to add a shot to your shaved ice, but we did not do that… thinking maybe I should have, though!
The person working there wasn’t unfriendly, just not particularly friendly and it was just a weird visit. Overall, I just wasn’t excited by the whole experience and doubt I’ll return unless I have a coupon and a craving for shaved ice when I’m downtown.
