I’ve been running RFTC for years. As runs in Vegas go, it is the best organized(IMHO) especially after Rock & Roll debacle last year. When I woke up yesterday I had a headache that made me doubt I’d make it, but I did. The scantron check in & «slept in» categories are genius. Seemed to be a large crowd and the energy was enough to make me shake off my headache. Seeing survivors will do that: check yourself before you wreck yourself. Aside from the wind, which is beyond their control & my trepidation of the Planned Parenthood controversy(I’m satisfied with outcome) my friend and I managed a not too shabby under 35 minute finish. The event is well organized, and there doesn’t seem to be the danger factor as in other events(probably because they have been doing it the longest and things are at a well oiled machine point now) The only race I enjoy more is Light the Night and that is because it benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society & I’m a survivor of Hodgkins Lymphoma. Full disclosure: I was hired & helped conceive & plan The first Great Santa Run with OV back in 05 and the original«blueprint»(minus the Santa Suits) was to be «like Komen». As a fundraising/nonprofit professional, I admire the organization, the $$ that stays here where cancer care is seriously lacking, and the bombdiggity job they do with RFTC The gold standard for fr races, 5 stars Bravo!
