Wayne called me back right away & I told him I needed him tomorrow for 2 – 2.5 hours for packing, as I’ve had nothing but problems with packers in Las Vegas & time was of the essence. I asked him for his hourly rate & he wouldn’t give it to me saying he only does flat rates, & we will work something out after he sees how much I have. I discussed that I ONLY wanted a REAL packer, I described ALL the issues I’ve had with packers not returning my calls, e-mails or texts, not showing up for the job, stringing me along, etc. I even told him the packer who came yesterday didn’t know what she was doing & gave examples of what she did wrong & what I felt a packer was supposed to do. He said he’s been doing this for 25 years. For the sake of this review, I am not an expert packer, but I know what one is like. I used to watch packers pack when I was a child & my grandfather was a phenomenal packer who could get the most into the trunk of a car. The following morning he said he was leaving at around 7:50 am. I needed a nap, but didn’t take one because I figured he’d be here within 20 minutes. He never showed. Suddenly at 9 am I get a call that he’s here. The minute he came in it was a disaster. Yes I had things on the floor(the things to pack) & yes it’s a tiny apartment, but no one else tripped all over my things. He had a cane & I was shocked that someone with a cane would come to do a packing job. Within 5 minutes of him starting the work I realized he didn’t know what he was doing. He put a big plastic container into a box with NOTHING inside of it. His excuse when I brought it up is that he was all confused because of the things all over my floor. It doesn’t even make sense what he said. I knew I couldn’t tell him to go because I needed him. There was no one else. He continued to make mistake after mistake such as: 1. Not wrap things that were delicate. I tried to catch the things he missed, but I’m sure I didn’t get them all. I had to watch over everything he did. 2. Miss-numbered boxes(he labeled one the same number as another) 3. He’d ask me what else needs to be packed when there were things right in front of his face 4. I would answer his question & he wouldn’t understand me & ask the question again 5. He would stuff things in a box not nice & neat, but lopsided & he did the same with bags. He’d just stuff things in a bag where the item wasn’t even sitting at the bottom of the bag, The bag was all over the place. This wasn’t a one time thing, this his how he did my entire packing. 6. He was supposed to read off to me what he put in the box, but I now realize some things were never read off to me. 7. I had 3 boxes of scotch tape, I found one on the floor, he didn’t know where the other 2 were even though they were together when I put them down. He didn’t even bother to look around, I had to do it all for him. 8. Things flew all over the place as he was moving things around. 9. He missed putting my hangers in the boxes 10. He knocked over my distilled water spilling it all over the floor & scale 11. He knocked over my webcam & I hope he didn’t break it. I even said something & I got no apology. 12. He used the ONLY kitchen hand towel I had left to mop up the water & didn’t even ask me prior to doing that. Now I have no towel, as that one is completely dirty now. All & all, it was clear to me that he lied about his packing skills. He may have been a mover, but a mover & a packer are TWO very DIFFERENT separate skill sets. That & it was clear he had some mental or concentration issues. I was so stressed about him being there, that I got a knot in my stomach during the entire process. At the end I said now we have to weigh & measure each box. I could tell he didn’t want to do that & after weighing, he complained that I hadn’t told him I wanted this. I said forget it, I’ll do the measuring. Had he not helped with weighing & he hadn’t wasted time at certain points, I would have been charged $ 30+/hour which I did NOT agree to. $ 20/hr. was my max & I told him that. Plus I had to help him throughout the entire process. It was like having a bull in a china shop who didn’t belong there. Yes he got the job done, but had I known he was like this, I NEVER would have hired him.
