This place went out of business. I am surprised it stayed in business as long as it did.

Ahhhh, my old neighborhood. I have been to this location when it was Beverly Hills Café and something else after that. Now, I just left one appointment and I had some time to kill before the next. I decided to stop by for a bite to eat and relax. I came in and sat towards the front of the restaurant. It was empty at this time. The waitress came up and said her greeting, which was very scripted. To me, I see this as if the owners are taking the time to train the staff. I think that is great to keep a proper image and please Unilocalers, like me. I ended up ordering a lot of food because I was paying with a credit card and their minimum is $ 10. I had some mozzarella cheese sticks. They were okay nothing special here. Then I had the house salad and garlic rolls. Hands down, their garlic rolls are AMAZING. Then comes the baked ziti. The plate was huge. The pasta and everything was cooked perfectly. Finally, I had tiramisu for dessert. Fantastic. So, I was sitting here solo and enjoying my many plates of food. The waitress came by many times to make sure I was doing okay. Then, there was an older gentleman with a thick accent checking how I liked everything too. I am guessing he may have been the owner. Overall, it was a great experience. The staff was great. The food was plentiful and good. It took me to order all of that food to reach the $ 10 minimum.

The food was quite good! I went in with low expectations, since Unilocal reviews were not great. I was in the mood for Italian, and it hit the spot. Ordered a custom pizza, veal marsala and fried calamari. The calamari was a big order, it was not over breaded and was quite tasty. Big portion. Beer was frosty cold and good. Average draft selection. Waitress was quite friendly and nice. It wasn’t fast, but overall a good experience. Pizza was good quality and veal was also nice. Dining room was quiet and clean. I will go back for more. They have a large menu.

Friday night, pregnant wife at home and hungry. She says she wants NY style pizza. I told her I saw a NY style pizzeria on my way home and that we should try it. Big mistake!!! We ordered a simple large pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms, nothing else! The dough was thick and felt old! the entire pizza was covered in garlic, the cheese felt like bubble gum and the pepperoni tasted and looked old. It seems their oven hasn’t been cleaned in years. Our finger tips turned black after the first slice(look pictures). They had the courage of charging $ 18 for that??? I am being generous by giving them 2 stars and that is because they treated me politely. I think they should get either better quality products or a better cook that knows how a NY style pizza looks like. I should have read their Unilocal page before even looking at this place!

My boyfriend and I decided to give this place a shot last Sunday. They were running a special for a large pizza, garlic rolls, and an order of wings since the game was on so we decided to go ahead and give it a try. I also ordered a side salad. The side salad was disappointing and bland. It was missing cheese and croutons in my opinion. The garlic rolls were way too garlicy and had no flavor to them other than the garlic. However, my boyfriend did like them. The pizza was very bland. It was okay, but had really no flavor to it. It was also super oily. And lastly, the wing sauce for the wings was really runny, so it made the wings themselves kind of bland as well. One thing we both enjoyed was the fact that they did have draft beer, which seems hard to come by in this area.

I went to dine here last night and I did not like the service at all. I waited and waited before I even got to tell the lady what I wanted. She then forgets to put down the first thing i told her and she pretends to tell me that NO I didn’t order that. With all do respect to any senior citizen still working, this lady has to get that hearing aid checked, and learn to be a better waitress. If by any chance you didn’t hear what your customer wanted you apologize and say something like«I will bring that right out» you don’t argue with me in trying to tell me something that I know what I said. Geez. The food was mediocre anyways. It would take a lot from me to go back here.

Sunrise Pizza at its lowest. My wife and I went in and sat down. Within 5 minutes we already knew what we wanted — it’s a pizzaria/Italian restaurant after all. It took another 15 minutes before our order was taken; during this time the«waitress» passed by us on 8 different occations without ever letting us know that she’ll be right with us or at the very least take our drink order. I know what you’re thinking, «It must’ve been packed!» Well sorry, you’d be mistaken. Not counting ourselves, we counted 6 ppl in the restaurant in 4 different booths! Come on! I just want a cheese pie, dammit! So, FINALLY we order our pizzaria staple, i.e., a cheese pie with pepperoni and a half-dozen garlic rolls. We finally got our drinks and patiently waited for our pizza. After about 10 minutes I decided to tell our«waitress» that we would like to have our garlic rolls before the pizza. That’s when she said, «You didn’t order garlic rolls.» Yo, we almost lost it right there; like I said, it is our personal staple order when we visit a new pizzaria, so there’s no way in hell that we didn’t mention it to her. She just wasn’t paying attention and forgot to write it down on her order pad. After roughly 45 minutes, we got our rolls and pizza(at the same time) and they were both average to mediocre. The rolls weren’t the best I’ve ever had but, they were good and the pepperoni pizza was average at best. Nothing really stood out that made the pizza a cut above the rest, the sauce was common, the pepperoni tasted like it could be bought at the grocery store however, the cheese was definitely warm and gooey — the way it should be. They don’t offer any pan style pizza only thin crust but, I will state in all fairness that they do offer a huge variety of daily specials and pastas. While waiting, I read over 8 different dishes that were on special for the week and two that were the special of the day. I noticed the Sea Bass Parmigana on the way out and seriously regretted getting a pie. And that’s the only reason as to why I’m giving John’s 2 stars. The service was lack-luster and slow almost to the point of indifference. The pizza was definitely not the best(I don’t think I’ll be back for it) BUT, the variety of the menu does intrigue me and that would be the ONLY reason why I would even contemplate on returning to John’s NY Pizza and Pasta.
