We made an appt. here yesterday to check it out as it’s very close to us. I hate my gym, which is pretty dumpy, but not everyone has the«Silver Sneakers» program. The woman with whom we had the appt. wasn’t available, so we got a guy that wasn’t exactly into marketing. The actual facility isn’t set up, but you can sort-of«preview» the equipment in the temporary location. The equipment looked great — all new, shiny and modern, but no pool. The facility is supposed to open in the next week or so, but we’ve seen the«Coming Soon» sign for about 2 years, so we aren’t really convinced. Then there is the pricing. The banner on the building says $ 10/mo. for the first 200+ people to sign up. It doesn’t mention the $ 50 per person down payment. They are also a 24hr./7 day gym. However… for the $ 10, you only get 3 days a week and you don’t get to make them any 3 that work for you. You can have M-W-F or T-T-S. If you want to switch a day, it’s SOL. So that makes it a 24⁄3 gym. You can take a guest, but it has to be different ones. Then the upticks in price start. If you actually want full access, it costs more. If you want extra services, it goes up again. It’s what our family calls the«Hong Kong» method of pricing. We discovered that in HK when we tried to buy a tape player. The player was $ 60, the speakers were more, the adapter was extra, you even had to pay for the box. At YouFit, you don’t get 24 hr. access, but the hours are long. It’s $ 20/mo., but you can take a guest every time — even if it’s the same person. It’s a much better deal. My husband and daughter can go together for only the cost of her membership. So, new equipment or not, we’ll stick with our other gyms.
