Why visit a chain when you can enjoy locally-smoked BBQ? Owner Doug Hinton serves up tender ribs, chicken, pork and beef that rivals other well-known restaurants. Best value for families is the Smokehouse Special with a full chicken and another meat with large sides. And talking about sides, they’re equally delicious, especially the French fries with his secret sprinkling(if someone figures out his recipe please post) of paprika, salt and SUGAR. You’ll find it difficult to pick between the bacon-and-mayo/sour cream potato salad or the sweet cole slaw that offers a low-carb version. The to-go cup of sweet tea is so large it may not fit in your car’s cup holder. Eat inside if you must have unlimited special salt on your fries or his sweet honey sauce for your sandwich and enjoy pictures of many locals’ hunting expeditions.

Great stop off the highway. The pork sandwich and potato casserole were both delicious. If you haven’t before then you should make the stop in. Great service

Great road stop if you happen to be going though MS and hungry. Not the best BBQ ever(needs to be sauced and sauces are lacking) but it is very interesting atmosphere and all the sides we tried were great –especially the potato casserole! Everything reasonably priced. You can get one meat and two sides and a tea for just under $ 10. Overall fun, fast, and worth the stop!

Meh, I’ve experienced better. I have eaten here a few times over the years when visiting. Each time I ask myself why. Chicken, brisket sandwiches too dry for me with sides not that good. Laurel lacks good barbecue and this place doesn’t help.

This is not a BBQ joint! I had the brisket and potato salad. It was not good. That was the NASTIEST potato salad I’ve ever had! I could put this place out of business.

Small restaurant that claims to be a bbq joint, NOT. The meat has a good flavor but what we had hadn’t seen a bit of smoke. I ordered the three meat combo. Brisket, pork and ribs. There was a nice flavor but no smoke flavor. If one is going to call itself Smokehouse of Laurel than add some liquid smoke to the meat. The brisket had quite a bit of fat. I won’t stop here again.

my favorite random stop during my cross country drive. for a kid that spent most of his life north of the mason dixon this place was pretty southern. i couldn’t understand a word the cashier said. and the place is full of fishing and hunting photos. to top it off, the owner thought i was with the press since i had a fancy camera. awesome bbq. got the pulled pork, ribs, and beans. pulled pork was amazing. ribs were good, they were better in texas, and the beans were amazing. go support businesses like these before something like joey’s bbq shack take them over.
