The husband and I got lucky enough to find this place last minute when booking our honeymoon. What an amazing find! We didn’t want to be around all the resorts and tourists and this place was perfect to get away from it all and have our privacy. Hard to find at night when we first arrived, could use better signs to locate, but luckily a friendly neighbor pointed is in the right direction. We were not disappointed. The place had everything we needed, kitchen, washer & dryer, and even beach gear so we didn’t have to rent anything. The views from our porch were private and incredible with stunning sunsets. The hosts were friendly and inviting, but also have us our privacy. Best advice… lots of bug spray… lots! It’s in the jungle so come prepared. Very humid, but the place had lots of fans and got a great cross breeze when you opened all of the windows, which we loved to do. Overall great experience. Will most definitely want to come back for our anniversaries.

If you don’t need to stay near the ocean and you enjoy peaceful scenery this place is for you. The house is located on a hillside tucked behind large trees. As you can see from my pictures there’s a green pasture with cows on the other hillside. So far I’ve seen pigs parrots chicken as well as the cows here.

Great stay overall, with a few highlights slash special notations. 1. This is not your traditional B&B in that you are served breakfast in the morning around a huge table with a local host. Perhaps better – this place is literally a one-bedroom apartment. No formal breakfast in the morning, but… 2. With a kitchenette(i.e., no stove or oven), you can literally make whatever you want for breakfast(just not fried eggs – don’t do what we did & buy a dozen eggs from the store, ya can’t cook em). But wish a full size fridge, a microwave, and a toaster oven, you can get pretty creative & make one helluva meal before you head out. 3. This is on the«quiter» part of the island, the south side. That said, we did find some great nearby food options: Kalaheo Café & Coffee for breakfast AND lunch, then Bobbi’s for bbq pulled pork platters/sandwiches. Those places will *not* let you down. 4. The place can be tricky to find, especially at night since it’s tucked up away into the hills a bit, without much, if any, street lights. Do your best to try to find it the first time in the daylight. 5. Yes, the hiking trails nearby may require an SUV to drive up them, but not this place; your regular car is fine. Just make sure the headlights work. 6. I’m not sure there’s any a/c here, though opening the windows at night cooled the place off just fine for us. Beware of the roosters in the morning though; those bad boys wake up around 5am, and if your windows are open, you’ll be awake too. We just shut the windows at that point, no big deal. 7. Any beach gear you could need is here; umbrella, 2 beach chairs, tons of beach blankets, a cooler, and 2 boogie boards. Super, super helpful. 8. And last but *definitely* not least: A full size washer & dryer. Literally the life-saver of the trip. 9. Runner-up life-saver: the hiking book tucked away on their bookshelf. Updated in 2014, so a newer edition, and another *huge* help. We didn’t leave the apartment without it.

My fiancée and I had originally booked somewhere else, but they cancelled on us after they had confirmed the reservation. We called Cathy, the owner at Hale Kua, and she was very helpful. The place was very cozy, had a nice kitchen, and was in the back roads, so you woke up to astounding natural beauty in the Lawai Valley. Cathy is very nice and helpful(e.g., Kauai had a shortage of rental cars, so she suggested some places we might be able to rent one). Remember to bring your bug spray because you are in the tropical jungle. All in all, a great stay!
