I use to enjoy this place but the people are not as welcoming has the previous couple, I’ll find another spot, food now is just ok, so with that

I met the new owner and he explained some adjustments on foods to make it better. I tried Hanoi bbq pork with noodle. The taste is less sweet than before. The pork slices have less fat compare to other Vietnamese restaurant. Both me and my wife really like this dish. Btw, they have new young waitress. Give it a try and hope you will like it

Do NOT eat Phở at this place, it sucks so bad, just slightly better than instant Phở that costs 50 cents each, everything else is just mediocre, the hot tea is kindsa disgusting. Sorry but wont be back.

Best place in the South Bay for phở. Perfect hole in the wall little Vietnamese restaurant. Always busy M-F for lunch. Coworkers and I go there about once a week.

It is under NEW Management ! For about 6 months now I have noticed the decline in quality ingredients to lack of cleanliness. They were shut down for weeks by the Health dept. for just that reason, roaches, vermon and needed all food up to right temp. Still, I decided to go back and while the recipes have changed, and the ingredients are not as great they are doing much better. Stick to the Phở for the best results. I hope they improve, would be nice to have my spot back up to par. Not holding my breath with Saigon Dish just a minute down the street.

Went 3 times in the past month. Ownership changed and sadly, the flavor I so loved in my noodles went with the original owners. In addition I asked each time, «Where are xxx?» And the new owner told me «They are on vacation» «They still work here just during the daytime» «Only the wife works here during the daytime». Okay… Why lie? Anyway I’ve also spoken with others who are regulars and they taste the difference in the flavor of the dishes also. I wouldn’t mind the changing of hands if they maintained the good aspects of the business. Well the new owners are very nice but unfortunately the flavor falls short.

There’s been a change of ownership, but it has only gotten better. We always come here for the eggrolls and the phở. The eggrolls are rolled differently from most phở restaurants. They are rolled in very long and slim rolls, and fried quicky. The result is an extra crispy shell and a soft center. I highly recommend it. The phở is fantastic and comparable to the better places in Little Saigon, except you do not have to spend the extra 40 minutes driving there. This place is one of the best in the South Bay.

I once had good phở at happy veggie in redondo beach. I feel they no longer have the spark now that the original owner retired. This place has the authentic and taste and feel of that place. This is one of those places that you feel at home. I like the descriptive menu. I only come for one thing, its the vegetarian phở with options with or without tofu. If i was a meat eater i hear the bbq ribs are good. they appear to have many more good options. Com on rat nheu

The soup was a bit on the sweeter side and it was also really salty too I was drinking 8 cups of water afterwards. The egg rolls were a little skinny but it was really crispy and good! The owner was also very nice.

My husband and I have been coming to this place for over 10 years. The family that owns it is very nice, the service is fast, and the food is great! Now that we have kids, we don’t get out much. But every time we come here, they are excited to see our family, remember our order, and spoil our kids by giving them cute plates and putting on cartoons. Our 2-year-old picky eater even loves the phở! No other restaurant can beat that!

— — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – ESSENTIALTIPS&EXECUTIVESUMMARY: — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – # Good, simple Vietnamese restaurant in the South Bay. It would hold 4 stars for the South Bay, but not in Little Saigon or San Gabriel Valley. # Cash only. # There is a parking lot behind the restaurant so you don’t need to find street parking on Prairie Ave. Entrance to the lot is on Marine Ave. between Prairie and Gerkin. # 3.5 stars for the food. I spent $ 13 – 14 for 2 people, ordering a broken rice dish and egg rolls, so for what you get, the price is very fair. I’m rounding down to help offset the average 4 star rating to 3.5 stars. I see a handful of 5 star reviews here and I can only guess they’re from locals to the South Bay who haven’t traveled around outside the city limits. # Service is typical for a stereotypical Asian restaurant, almost non-existent. I expect it at these kind of places so no big deal. I only forgive it completely when the food is hands down excellent. Huong Vi is not one of those places. It’s simply is a good place to eat at if you’re looking for something healthier and can’t decide, nothing more. # Because I already tried the broken rice dish and found it to be fine, maybe you should consider getting a vermicelli or some type of bowl. One of those dishes that has meat and eggrolls in it. Those dishes look promising. — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – MYEXPERIENCE: — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — – Egg rolls didn’t approach me with a good first impression. From the get go, I notice that it’s fried in old oil simply by judging it by the color of its shell. This is the one and only time where I show prejudice. Inside was hot and like porridge, which means it’s a typical egg roll with mushy vegetables inside. The pork chop in the broken rice dish was good. It was soft and had the right amount of marination. Broken rice rested below in a familiar set-up so nothing bad to report back. My only beef(har har) with this dish is not the beef, but the accompanying veggies. I was hoping for sliced cucumbers, shredded daikon and carrot, and/or other stuff. What I got instead was shredded iceberg lettuce with shaved carrots on top. There’s nothing wrong with that per se. It’s simple. However, typical effort makes the dish into a typical Vietnamese dish into a typical Vietnamese restaurant. In regards to the service, I had to ask for nearly everything myself. Right when I first walked into the restaurant, it was completely vacant. I was trying to look for a host, server, or somebody so I could alert them that I’m here to eat. I had to peer into the kitchen and wave at the lady inside that my friend and I are going to dine in. When sitting at my table, I made eye contact with the Mexican server/busser, asking for two extra plates. He stayed silent and left the table. Maybe he doesn’t speak English very well? Okay fine. When he came back to drop off the broken rice dish, he didn’t move the plate of egg rolls to the side. He places the rice dish at the very corner of the table, right next to my friend, then walks away. Strange. The highlight of the service came when the old lady of the restaurant refilled my water cup once. Now, I can say the service is okay haha. Nothing bad about this restaurant. I don’t mind coming back here again. It’s not plain olé average nor is it worthy of being classified as being very good. The assessment is 3.5 stars. If you’re looking for Vietnamese food with a home-cooked feeling, then this restaurant should fit the bill.

Food is good, price is very reasonable, serving size is generous. I come here as often as i can. Parking lot could use a bit fixing up. Entrance from the back needs to be spruced up since most customers use back door to go in. Owners are a very nice couple. I come here several times a week. Their daily special is very good. Cash only though!

Don’t let the outside appearance sway you from trying this place out. By Far the best Vietnamese I have had in Los Angeles. I’m not going to say a lot but go and try everything. I work in a home right down the street and I come hear so often I have picked up some vietnamese. Don’t go anywhere else but here if you are in Lawndale. Trust me Houng Vi is the best. I have tried them all and this place is competing on a whole different plane. A lot of parking, Friendly staff, a lot of pictures, and Bomb Phở and Vermicelli! Also try out the specials they are always amazing. Phở-K Yes this place is Phonomenal you wont Phở get it! Bring cash and appetite. :D

It’s a bit hidden place. Since there isn’t sign showing back parking for customer. You could easily miss this place. I haven’t gone here for about 3 years. Not because I don’t like the food. It’s because I’m not big on vietnamese food in any local place. But I used to come here often before that. It was a weekly dinner for me when I was too tired to cook. The reason I go here because they make special dishes that no other vietnamese restaurant would have it. Such as a flat rice noodle stir fry with soy sauce, bean sprout, combination of beef shrimp and chicken. Flavor always on point whenever I eat it. There’s a few more but I never order for myself. But my boyfriend and friends along with coworker has. I only share a bit not enough to review for you guys.

Oh yeah, they make every dish pretty damn good here. It’s a family run business and whoever’s cooking in the kitchen does a fabulous job!!! I clean my bowl/plate every single time, no matter what I order. This is just one of the best joints for solid Vietnamese food. Ask anyone, this place ROCKS.

Phở has become my hang-over cure of choice these days. Whatever is in that broth sets me back on course to normal brain & stomach functions. In search of another hangover recovery location, I found Huong Vi on Prairie in Lawndale. Parking is free on the street. Phở Tai(Beef Noodle Soup with Rare Sliced Beef) was the cure of the day and I upgraded to a Large($ 5.95) with extra Rare Sliced Beef($ 1.50). The broth was a little light on flavor, however, it was ok. The standard addition of Lime, Hung Que(Thai Basil), and a double helping of Chili Pepper slices brought some help. As appetizers we tried Goi Cuon Tom(Shrimp Spring Rolls) wrapped in Banh Trang(Rice Paper). One order is $ 4.50 and serves 3 large rolls(each cut in half). Like the Phở, they were simply ok. Even with the dipping sauce, there wasn’t much flavor. We also tacked on an order of Cha Gio(4 Fried Eggrolls) for $ 4.50. The eggrolls were long, thin, and ok, but made much better by the side of Lettuce, Cilantro, and Sweet & Sour Sauce. Olivia’s entrée was Com Suon Bo Dai Han Nuong(Charbroiled Beef Short Rib with Rice and Salad). I only tried one bite of the meat, but it was soft and tender. It was over $ 10 and tasted like it. The White Rice and almost Green Salad were pretty lame. We barely touched those. Overall, Huong Vi is an a-ok local choice for Vietnamese food or hangover cures. Most of the clientele was asian and the customer service was very comfortable with those that speak Vietnamese.
