I feel like this place has given up on BBQ. I remember them being better from my years at KU but after a couple visits within the past few months, I don’t have any intention to return. During my recent trip, I purchased the brisket with fries. The brisket was flavorless and the fries were soggy. My friend wanted the burnt ends as a sandwich and was denied. All it takes is a couple slices of toast, is that too much to ask for from a BBQ joint?

We came in on Sunday for a birthday party and the much celebrated all you can eat fried chicken. The restaurant is comfy and the staff is friendly. The fried chicken… Be aware that it takes 25 minutes to get this dish because of the cooking process. The special congress with two sides. We orders broccoli and mashed potatoes with white gravy. Both were very small portions, but good. The chicken is, sadly, nothing to write home about. It is your average fried chicken, very little spice and flavor. It definitely does not warrant it’s own menu. We would not order again. Get the BBQ here. You will be much happier.

This place was a disappointment. I ordered the burnt ends and they ranged from chewy to oddly tough. They needed to be sauced and sauced hard. The fries and fried okra were fine, but the meat was just not good and I typically love burnt ends. Other than that, they had good customer service and the complimentary fries were a bonus.

I started going here when Boom Comics opened up. I just wish I’d discovered this Lawrence standby years ago. I always get the Signature sandwich, but I might have to try something else sometime. It’s just that truly excellent pulled pork is not as easy to find as you might think.

Great service. Reasonable prices for the amount of food. I was happy with the variety of the gluten free menu! My 2 teenage boys loved it and were full at the end of lunch.

Love this place. Excellent holiday buffets. Been there on Mother’s Day and Easter. Yum Smoked Turkey and Dressing. Ham. Fried Chicken Sunday’s. $ 10.99 all you can eat w 2 sides. Homemade broccoli salad. Cinnamon Apples good enough for dessert. Fresh green beans $ 1 extra. Everyday blackened chicken salad w BBQ ranch. The usual BBQ is available and good. Owners are super friendly. Get to know you after a few visits. Lots of good quality TVs if you want to watch a game. Lots of Parking. Hiding in a strip mall west side of Iowa. Find it.

I used to order from here all the time. Good(but not real) burnt ends, good pulled pork, etc. On my last order I decided to try the ribs and they were awful. It was as if somebody abandoned them on the smoker until every molecule of water was gone. Not only did the meat not easily slide off the bone as it does for properly smoked ribs but I had to use quite a bit of force just to pull them apart. It was just a large tough slab of nasty. Kinda of ruins my experience at a restaurant that specializes in BBQ. TLDR: smoked the ever livin crap out of the ribs. Bad.

Great food! Especially the Spicy Chicken salad and the chicken tenders. My only(BIG) complaint is the time it takes for them to deliver. I’ve had delivery 3 times and it has never taken less than 1 hour 15 minutes. I understand a busy restaurant but when I’m ordering a salad I don’t expect it to take that long.

Good bbq. If you like KC styled BBQ just tell them to not put the sauce on before they bring it out. But they do dry rub and then just a little sauce on top to make sure they take nothing away from the flavor of the meet.

Great place for lunch! 5 dollar burgers on Wednesday. My office uses them for working lunchs and are always happy with the food. Sometimes the service is a bit slow but the food is always good. My wife and I had our 1st fried pickles there!

I don’t know about all of these negative reviews. I went to Biggs for the fifth time yesterday and again, it was great. I’ve gotten sandwiches, ribs, and yesterday had the all you can eat ends. It’s all been great. The sauces are pretty good, but I’m not a huge fan of their regular one. Fries are great. Beans are pretty good. Jalepeno corn bread is great. Fried corn is great. Beer is cold and great. Staff is always fast and nice. Yesterday, they brought a friend out the wrong side, and within three minutes, they had him the correct one. I don’t know. I just think this place is a solid five stars to me. Haven’t ran across a reason to give it anything other. Lawrence is kind of a liberal town, so my buddy thought maybe the bad reviews come from vegans or whoever they are :)

I really wanted to like this place a lot. I smoke a lot of meats myself and eat BBQ whenever I travel the country. The owner and his son were out front giving free samples of pork and were as nice as could be. Restaurant next door was packed and the hostess was rude so I thought it was a no-brainer to give Bigg’s a shot. We tried the pork, turkey, beans, coleslaw and fries. Smoked turkey and pork were average to above average. The baked beans were some of the best I’ve ever had… awesome. Coleslaw was good but very runny. The fries were not my favorite — too soft and very little flavor. I originally was going to give this place 3 stars but with how attentive and polite the owner, and staff, were I put it at 4. A lot of potential with very little BBQ selection in Lawrence.

The staff was really nice. We ordered the St. Louis ribs and fries. The ribs were dry and came with no sauce. They almost seemed like they were boiled either way you had to work hard to get the meat off the bone. The sauce was good not great and the fries were ok nothing special. So while it was not a horrible dinner I will not be going back.

If you haven’t tried the ribs you should! Bigg’s offers baby back and St. Louis cuts. What’s also great is that if I can’t make it to this location on Iowa, they also have one downtown! The brisket and pork are also a great choice. Plus the staff is friendly too. Oh yea, tv’s are everywhere great place to watch the games.

I ordered the rib platter with the St. Louis ribs and the pulled pork. Their ribs and pork were both cooked really well and tasted great. I also had their twice baked potato salad and their sweet potato fired as my sides. The twice baked potato salad was amazing but the fries were quite soggy. The soggy fries may have to do with me getting lost and them sitting. The website warned you too to avoid fried items for pick on and delivery orders. The only real problem I had was their location was a little hidden but the woman who answered their phone gave me great direction.

Absolutely fantastic! Five stars aren’t enough. I had the four-meats platter with cinnamon apples and BBQ beans and gluten-free bread and pickles. Spicy sausage, BBQ burnt ends(they’re good!), brisket, pulled pork. All so good! Tender, hot(physically) with the right anoint of smoke! Yum!

I had a very pleasant lunch of burnt ends here. The facility had a nice paneled wood bar vibe and the servers were very friendly and helpful. The broccoli salad is the hidden gem on the menu. Not a transformative BBQ experience, but much nicer than I expected and perfectly fine.

I eat a lot of KCBBQ so anything related to smoke from Lawrence is lucky to even get my business. Biggs is sort of an odd place. They appear to get tons of catering business – I’ve seen the Biggs truck outside the football complex more than a few times on my walks– and the restaurant has sort of the sports bar thing going but a bit dated. The food is just OK. Not great. The menu is downright confusing. Hello, Restaurant Impossible. How about concentrating on a few good things and doing them well and not try to cover the entire gamut of possibilities? Still, I find myself here from time to time. If you’re just wanting a beer and a sandwich it’s good enough. Funny story, and I tell everyone, and now Unilocal will hear it. About a year ago I was having lunch here with friends. I order something I can’t recall and onion rings. Out comes a plate with three small onion rings on it. Waitress«sorry, we’re short on rings but we have some being prepared this moment. I’ll bring them out.» About five minutes later a small plate with a single small onion ring is placed before me. My lunch pals and I look at each other and crack up. «Well, THANKYOU.» Hard to get good help in a college town. Come expecting just OK. If you want to get knocked out with quality, head to Kansas City. The competition is there and a place like Biggs, even though decent, would get lost if forced to compete.
