I don’t usually leave bad reviews but this is one place where I will never come back to… Had to ask the waiter for a plate few times. Anything I need had to ask the waiter few times we felt ignored and on top of that we were being kicked out of the restaurant about 4 waiters come by asking if we done with our food if there was an option I would leave no stars

Went here tonight and was really impressed. It was a packed house, two floors completely filled on a Sunday night, but nevertheless they managed to quickly somehow get us a table. The staff is nice and cares about the customers, new and old. The service was lightning fast. We hardly waited 10 – 15 min for our food to come out. Their portions were large and the food was fresh … We shared an egg roll(was soo surprisingly good), a main dish(cashew chicken) and also shared the beef fried rice. All were awesome. We were hungry and we could only finish half of both dishes. & You know the foods really good when you’re focused on your plate and forget to talk to the people you’re with. I must say I really think Chosen island is one of the best kosher Chinese spots in NYC, period. Definitely come and try it. We ended up paying $ 43 total and had a really satisfying meal. Thanks Chosen, Keep up the good work:)

The food is terrible! Normally i don’t write bad reviews but really really bad. so much oil in everything! and is simply bad! I saw someone wrote«best restaurant in the area» either he’s the owner or someone who have no idea what is good food…

Since my family eats only kosher food, I cannot compare CI with non-kosher Chinese food, but over the years we’ve eaten at practically every kosher Chinese restaurant in NY-NJ,(from the legendary Moshe Peking on) and CI is at or near the top of the list for kosher American-Chinese cooking(obviously not authentic Chinese) and a reasonably good value. Portions are very large(we always take home for another meal), food is tasty, extremely broad menu, staff is competent and accommodating. My wife and I eat at CI very often, and we’ve never been disappointed.

The food was sub-par here, and the staff was stunningly horrible. The VERY kind man who sat me,(manager of place) I thought was an indicator of who great my experience would be here. I saw sat upstairs and a few mistakes were made with my food. But that happens often with a language barrier. When the wiater saw me and my wife were not ordering a very large order, he gave me with bitter attitude and clear coldness. The food here as I stated is below average, even with the cute concept name and large rooms. To make matters worse, I decided to give slightly less then 15% tip, for I left most of my food over and the waiter on– 3 different occasions– extolled that reoccurring bitterness to me. Not the waiter but a second bus boy/waiter who took my credit card says: You HAVETO leave a bigger tip, more then 15%!! I explained to the moron that people can give what ever they deem fit. From 0 to a lot! I TOLDHIMTHEFOODWASTERRIBLEANDTHATHECANTTELLTHATTO A CUSTOMER! Mind u I happen to tip above average 20−25% often in my real life, as long as the server was nice, cool and respectful. Regardless of food quality! He asked me was my service good. I said it was alright, even though I did not explain how bad the other waiter was. The one listening to our conversation. I just called the manager of this place, and he said that is was NOT right what this employee did. Bottom line the staff here are literally oof the boat, and do not understand that giving a min tip is not an actual law! Also they are hiring some that are very bitter people. I gather if u live in Lawernce or Cedarhurst(I do not) u will try this place. YOU keep walking or driving past this establishment and dont look back. Even with the promise of being Koshar, which is a gimmick here with the bad quality food and HORRIBLE employees! What is the standard of hiring staff here? Being from China and living.

The best Kosher Chinese restaurant in 5 towns, no question. Possibly one of the best Kosher restaurants in the area as well. I’ve been going here for about 6 years. Chosen’s food is delicious and easily competes with great non-kosher Chinese food. The quality is top notch and the food is extremely consistent. Atmosphere and staff are warm and welcoming. The warmth of the staff is noticeable. Yes, dishes can be expensive when compared to non-kosher food but the pricing is in-line with higher end kosher restaurants. I am not limited to kosher food but I still prefer Chosen Island over any non-kosher Chinese restaurant in the 5towns.

Food here is great — fresh, well cooked, and delicious. Selection is large. Typically greasy dishes are still greasy here. Mixed drinks are also well made. Service is impeccable — the wait staff are friendly and courteous and food is served quickly. Décor is the only thing lacking, which is pretty bland and cheap looking. The place tends to get crowded and loud.

I’ve been a steady customer of Cho-Sen Island for about 16 years now and I’ll keep coming back because: 1. The food is great. 2. Portions are sizable. 3. Service is excellent. 4. Price is right. ETC, ETC, ETC! I’ve also covered numerous catered affairs at the location and I’ve yet to hear a complaint. In fact, I just had my daughter’s Bat Mitzvah party there and I couldn’t be happier!

Excellent food and service. Well worth the price for the portion. We all enjoyed. Kung po chicken, egg rolls, egg drop soup, garlic beef, scallion pancakes, and sushi tempura all excellent.

It’s regular kosher Chinese restaurant. Nothing special about it. Just like any other one. Food is very greasy. Some dishes missing salt or not enough salt. VERY pricy. In the past VAAD had a lot of problems with this place. Now not sure. Overall so so.

It a Chinese restaurant, the only difference is that the food is kosher. The food is ok. It is a little pricey, but the portions are large. If you go, I recommend that you share dishes. I went with my family. We ordered two dishes to share, plus soup and still brought home leftovers.

Very good, tasty food as far as Kosher Chinese is concerned but food is a little too greasy, and too much heavy sauce for my liking and I ended up having a stomach ache after. Very pleasant atmosphere. Only been there for 2 parties and each time I found the service to good. Would like to have had some of their sushi. :) Parking is a pain in that area, you will most likely have to use a meter. For someone looking to have a party at a Kosher Chinese food place, I would recommend this place but definitely try to ask for lighter sauce.

The food was OK but a bit on the pricey side(though I expect that when it’s Kosher). The service was awful. I’m okay with rude wait staff, but having plates thrown down on my table, having the waiter grab stuff for us off of another occupied table without even saying a word to anyone, and the general curtness was just too much. On top of that, the food was tasty but very fried and greasy. The presentation was also very poor. My friend ordered Sweet and Sour Chicken which came as a giant plate of fried chicken pieces and a soup bowl full of the sauce. I’ve never been to a Chinese restaurant that didn’t plate the dish with the sauce in an appetizing fashion. On top of that, the chicken pieces were dripping with oil. My quest for a good Kosher Chinese restaurant on Long Island continues.

Kosher does not have to mean overly greasy, fatty, vegetable-less food served at this restaurant. Over the years, I have been to Chosen Island several times. Each time it has gotten worse and worse. My final visit was for a private dinner party. My wife ordered sweet and sour chicken… we were shocked by the result. It was just breading. There was literally no chicken in some of the ‘nuggets’! The few pieces of chicken that were there were horrendous with seemingly nothing more than clumps of grease! To add insult to injury, it was served with no vegetables. I immediately alerted the waiter. He said he could not return the entrée because the plate had been part of a package. I told him to get the manager to whom I told him I would be glad to pay for a different entrée. He quickly said«no» and walked off. At least the ‘Diet’ chicken I ordered was edible. Sadly it was extremely poorly portioned — who on a diet should be given not one but two huge chicken breasts?! So to recap: the food is repugnant and the service downright rude. Stay clear of this place and expect more from a kosher restaurant.
