When I lived in Lawrence, I’ve purchased a few items from here, and I’ve always had great service. It’s a great concept. There was a need for a business like this on Mass Street, and I’m glad they are thriving. A business like this can only make a neighborhood better! It’s always a pleasure to shop here or to browse! I wish the Phoenix Gallery was in St. Louis!

This is my go-to place for gifts, especially when I have someone difficult to buy for. You won’t walk out empty handed. It is a terrific local business!

I went there today and it’s a lovely store, filled with ceramic & wood pieces and various other nice items.

This is hands down the best gift shop in downtown Lawrence! Locally owned, they feature artists from the midwest and beyond, and we go there for everything from kids presents(jewelry, hair ornaments, bookmarks, etc.) to ceramic-ware, glass, and wood, etc., perfect for our own home or someone elses. I always go here for housewarming, graduation, or wedding gifts. And I love that you can buy truly functional items which are also works of art. The service is great. They employ people who know something about art(art students from the University, etc.), and they’ll put things in a nice box wrapped with raffia(or ribbon or string, I forget which!) at no extra charge.

I placed an order for some customized art. Unfortunately they have yet to find my order or place it. Good thing I didn’t pay in advance. I’ll just find my art piece elsewhere. Cute items just don’t place an order if it’s something you actually want.

I have the pleasure of knowing many people who can boast money as being no object in their lives. What the heck do you buy a person like that when their birthday or Christmas rolls around? Well, if you’re me(and you’re not, but it’s cool), you head to Phoenix Gallery in downtown Lawrence to satisfy your gift-giving needs. Phoenix Gallery always has an amazing selection of one of kind objects made by local artists. Also, I sorta want everything there that I see! You can get everything from jewelry to pottery, clocks made out of old car hubcaps and intricately carved wooden boxes. There are some nice mainstays that happen to be there each time I go in, but there is also a nice selection of things I haven’t seen before. I’m also able to find nice gifts for people on my meager budget, which is really nice. I was horrified recently when I walked by Phoenix Gallery and saw an empty store! I was extremely relieved to see that it had only moved locations. Buyers, take note! Don’t assume it is out of business like so many other local businesses recently! Give Phoenix Gallery a try next time you’re looking for a nice gift for someone special.

I really love this place. I have gone here several times now for gifts. Lately I’ve been giving local gifts — I know the person I am giving to likely won’t have the item, and for my friends who do not live in Kansas, I feel like it makes it more interesting since it has a connection to me geographically. Anyways, on to my review! Besides, gifts it’s really hard not to want to buy up everything here. All kinds of handmade goodies, and something for everyone, both item-wise and price-wise. I feel like the jewelry is decently unique, and the pottery is beautiful and functional. A few handmade soaps and textiles, and glass and wood items, too. Look in the back for the sale items! Just going in this store and looking around makes me happy and inspired.

Phoenix Gallery is one of those comfort stores that you can always go to to find that awesome last-minute gift for that hard-to-shop-for person. They consistently carry a wide selection of great, appreciable art at affordable prices. Ceramics and wood pieces seem to be their mainstays, although their jewelry wall is my go-to place for earrings every Christmas. They do a great job of rotating their inventory through, so the slow-to-sells are soon gone, while the staple artists are consistently represented. Excellent customer service, they’re often willing to order in a specific piece if they no longer have it in stock, and always provide more information about the artist who created the piece when you purchase something. Excellent gift-wrapping as well has saved my butt more than a few times. The interior is just what a gallery should be, full, but with everything well displayed and easily seen. Attractive wooden shelving makes the pieces the focus. Full-disclosure, I proposed to my wife here. After approaching the staff and sharing my intent with them, they went out of their way to keep our special moment special, even providing planning assistance and helpful suggestions. They were more than accomodating, and have always proven to be so on repeat visits before and after my marriage. A Lawrence tradition and store I hope to never see disappear.

I really love this place. I have a set of the Coburn mugs and a teapot, and I often get gifts for my Mum from here. The store used to be run by a group of artists but I understand that a few years back they opted to have one person run it because apparently a group of artists are better suited to making art than running a business — I think it was a good choice because the art/pottery in there is always awesome. Phoenix is also a great example of a super friendly Lawrence, Kansas business where you leave feeling happy to have stopped by. Visitors to Lawrence should definitely visit and support the local artists and take home a souvenir they can enjoy for life.

All local, unique, eclectic art, pottery, and jewelry. But did you read that? All. Local. Doing it the right way since forever and ever. You’ll find some very cool pieces here. Yesterday I saw a hand-knit sweater that I just can’t get out of my head, it was tres chic. I could probably find a gift for every person I know here and for that reason alone, it’s totally worth your time.

A really beautiful and well cared for store. You can tell the thought that goes into setting up the displays, mostly of pottery, blown glass and wood work. Its great to see the local artists pictures and bios next to their collection – gives a sense of community. I have a weakness for glasswork, ever since discovering the awe of Chiluly, and watching his team in action. Its an amazing craft. The Phoenix has a large collection of blown glass in an array of shapes – everything from the practical like vases, coasters to the artistic. And is such colors and sizes! There is also some really great hand made jewelry, again from simple to the artistic. The other great thing about the Phoenix is the art is actually affordable, so it makes a great unique gift to give, or something to add to your home.

The Phoenix Gallery is a Mass Street mainstay — it’s been at one location or another along the street for almost two decades. The eclectic feel of its cooperative beginnings still resonates among the many different artists’ works displayed in the gallery. For fans of local artists, it’s a wonderful place to see vastly different styles and works in one place. Pottery is plentiful at Phoenix Gallery. So is jewelry. Also represented are glass, metal, wood and textiles. Of course the gallery has a website now, but browsing 3-dimensional art in one dimension isn’t much fun. Besides, you can’t stop in at other stores or grab some dinner at Free State if you’re online, and Mass Street is definitely supposed to be a multi-sensory experience.
