Just happened to choose today’s road trip route to go through Leadville. And the parking spot that was open was right in front of this fab shop! I first noticed the bike out front with the sweet crocheted wheel guard cover. Then I saw the sign and I wandered in as if pulled by tractor beam. I made out with the local angora yarn — and ended up grabbing a skein of some local sport weight wool and a hat pattern written by the shop owner. Great souvenirs!

This place is a small little store front that you could easily miss if you weren’t paying attention. Although it seems like its mainly a pottery painting place, they have a small but good selection of yarn. I was looking for something to keep me busy during a road trip through the mountains. I didn’t know what I could find in such a small town, but this place had what I needed, including a knowledgeable person able to answer all of my dumb questions without making me feel like they were dumb questions!

We spent part of a rainy morning at this place and had a great time. Fire on the Mountain is a pottery painting place where you pick out reasonably priced unpainted pottery, paint it, and then let them finish it in the kiln. Kiln service isn’t immediate and may take a day or two, but they do offer UPS shipping if you can’t come back to pick it up. We even purchased a few cards down the street to include in the pottery we painted, to be sent as gifts, and the gal at the store was happy to make sure the cards get sent with the pottery. Overall, the service was wonderful, and that’s what really makes a business like this successful. The kind lady(probably the Owner) who was working on this day was very helpful in getting us started, allowed us as much paint and color as we wanted, and even allowed our daughter to play with her daughter’s toys when she got bored of painting. The selection of pottery was very good and reasonably priced. All-in-all, it was a great place to spend a rainy morning and we’ll be sure to stop in here again in the future.
