This restaurant is fabulous! When we went it was spotless. This was our second time eating there, and our good impressions have been consistent. The food is wonderful, tasty, and served with love and attention. I am vegetarian and my husband is vegan. We are always happy to find excellent vegan cuisine that’s reasonably priced, and with friendly service.(I was also happy that they were open on Christmas Eve – it was a very celebratory way of spending the evening last night, as we were visiting the area of Ledgewood.) Personally, I like the informational material about veganism that’s available when one walks in the door. Kudos!

Seemed to change ownership recently. Atmosphere has always been low. They usr outside plastic tables and chairs, but then the service has dropped. Went there with some one with Gluten allergies, and ordered a gluten free item. When the waitress delivered the food we tried to confirm it was GF and her response«I hope so». She went back to kitchen to confirm and she came back and said no body was really sure.

The only reason I like this restaurant is because it is a complete vegetarian restaurant, however the food here is pretty bland and tasteless. I order the potato curry cheese sub and DH ordered spicy cha cha and we had to order extra hot sauce to make the food edible and tasteful. The potato curry had mere potato wedges deep fried and some curry powder sprinkled over it which was too greasy to eat I won’t go back here to eat even though I am a hard core vegetarian cause the food seems bland

I have been going to the Loving Hut for a few years now. I love their food, and the number of options(all vegan and many GF or GF Optional) is great. They do often seem to swap out ingredients such as the type of bread, like another reviewer mentioned — but I believe that is done in the interest of making sure they have fresh ingredients to serve you, as opposed to keeping 10 different kinds of bread on hand and using each of them relatively rarely. Prices are fair, and the food is very good. Service was slow on my last visit there(this week), and has generally been faster in the past — this time it took probably over 30 minutes for our entrees to arrive, maybe even a bit more than that. But if you have the time, it’s a great little vegan eatery, and great value for your money! They also have a great selection of desserts.

Save yourself the frustration, and go somewhere else. There are flies flying up next to me as I write this and yelling from the kitchen in the back. Sigh. The menu has a bunch of different options, but there are ingredients on each of the descriptions that are crossed off. I opted for a sandwich, the picture on the menu shows a sub-type sandwich and it ended up coming out in rye bread. It was okay, but definitely something that felt thrown together and not worth $ 12. My boyfriend ordered a wrap which was pita, with fried vegan protein(on the menu it says«seaweed wrapped» — didn’t know those two were interchangeable). She asked«Salad or Fries» and he opted for fries. On the menu is only mentions they offer sweet potato fries so that’s what he was expecting, but instead got old, regular potato fries. The waitress was really good about letting him switch his order, but it has also been ten-fifteen minutes and we still haven’t received the food.

Food is really good but the service is really bad, to slow, order to pickup a sandwich, they told me it will take 30 minutes to be ready, show up 40 minutes later and still have to wait 15 minutes sitting there, while I was there there was a family waiting for their drinks for a while ago… If you go you better prepare to wait long…

This place feels like a hippie wonderland with«Make Peace, Not War» signs that greet you, an all-vegan menu that is so extensive that vegans will have an instant orgasm just looking at it, a wonderful description on the menu about how Loving Hut was started, how they care about ethical treatment of animals and stuff. And to top it off, there’s David Attenborough’s Planet Earth playing on TVs. How much more 1970’s can this place get? Now the food here sucks(imho) and is way overpriced for what you get — which in most cases is boiled vegetables and rice. The food is absolutely bland, service is bad at best. You’ve been warned!

I was kinda worried about coming here due to it’s kind of obscure location, but I really liked my experience. I got the veggie noodles and they were so delicious and perfectly spiced, even my carnivorous family loved it(I didn’t tell them it was vegan until afterwards!). The crispy delight was delicious as well as was its sauce. I just went with the waiter’s recommendations which worked out great. The carrot cake was amazing also. Staff was friendly and it had good, friendly vibes. Sorry I’m not a professional food critic but if you’re in the area and/or you’re looking for some great Asian vegan cuisine, this place is definite worth checking out.

I’m a vegan through health and nutrition means, so my previous reviews of unhealthy outings at other restaurants is just evidence of my small will power and monstrous binge sessions, which I am not proud of. Unnecessary information out of the way, this place is amazing. I am reviewing this place based on the last time I’ve been here, around May of 2014. A shame that this place always seemed so empty. I was still surprised that the dishes that I had eaten were vegan. The ‘cheesy’ rice was very good and though I’d love to branch out and try other entrees, I highly recommend, I think it’s called ‘The Golden Age’. The food is in large portions and the prices were reasonable. The quality of the food is amazing. The staff was so very friendly and easy going. They would come around just enough times to take care of you, without bothering you. I think the wait was reasonable, though for the lack of patrons at the restaurant, makes you wonder what else would be keeping them. Otherwise, the wait time never was a concern. Do be prepared to be one of few people in the restaurant. The atmosphere is the only thing I would touch on, as it’s very spacious, bland, and… low budget? The last time i was there, the tiles, wallpaper, furniture, were all white-ish. Been a year since I’ve been to this place, however I pass it on the road often and they’re still around, so they must be doing something right. I would suggest creating an atmosphere most fitting with veganism, like pictures of animals or just have various nature décor. A good start would be to at least add a splash of color or at least tone down the lights. I merely harp on this, as the food is very good and would be nice to see the dine-in experience flourish to bring in a good sized crowd.

So great! I’m not vegan or even vegetarian and I say this is some of the best food in The area. The steamed dumplings were so good! Everyone should give this place a try. You will be sure to make another visit.

You’ve lost that«Loving» feeling. The food used to be good, but now it’s mediocre at best. I usually get my food to go, which is probably why I ordered from them for so long. Eating at the restaurant is painful torture. The music is annoying, the ambiance is strange, the waitress has no personality, and they use place mats made from wallpaper. The place looks like it needs a good scrubbing with bleach. Tonight, I decided to stay and eat. There were 4 other tables of guests, which is the busiest I’ve ever seen this place, yet not busy for a Friday night at most restaurants. We waited an hour to get our food. We ordered 3 things and one item they brought us was incorrect. More waiting. By the time the correct item made its way over to me, we had been there an hour and a half. As I’m cutting into the tofu, I notice a short black hair sticking out of a scallion. The hair was the straw that broke this camel’s back. I am done with this place. It’s such a huge disappointment that the only vegan restaurant in the area is such a hot mess. Slow service, dirty restaurant, bad vibes. And now I’m probably nit-picking, but the waitress wears UGGS. That’s so not vegan.

I used to love the Loving Hut. It’s a good 45 minute drive from my house, but for good vegan food that’s a very tolerable trip. Now it’s like it’s not even the same restaurant. In fact, I’d hesitate to even call it a restaurant. First thing I noticed is that almost every item on the menu had multiple ingredients crossed out. At a 12 dollar average per sandwich, you’d think they’d at least have all the ingredients. The place had maybe 3 other tables filled and it still took us 25 minutes to get a sandwich and a wrap. The wrap wasn’t even a wrap, it was just a pita folded in half with some stuff in the middle. It was supposed to be a vegan fish wrap, but it had ketchup on it. The sandwich was cold, and it came with lukewarm pickles and cold, soggy sweet potato fries. It also had ketchup on it, and was missing some ingredients that weren’t even crossed off on the menu. I kept looking for the waitress to find out if we could get the sandwich reheated or something to put on the fries, but she was in the back room for a good 15 minutes. All of this aside, the window sill next to my table was littered with dead bugs, and when I sat down a vinyl tile fell off the wall next to me. Not exactly the ritz. Usually when you go to a place and have a bad experience, at least the water is good. But not at loving hut. Room temperature and stale, which is pretty much how I feel about my whole experience.

The best vegan restaurant I’ve ever been to. The only thing I would recommend is either order in advance or go when you have plenty of time as the service is a bit slow. Love the wonton soup, nori stars, and mock chicken patty burger. Everything they serve has delicious flavor and will even appeal to the most intense meat eater you know.

I just tried this place today for the first time and I was really impressed. The food is freshly prepared and it tasted great! The Wonton Soup was amazing, the best I’ve ever had! Everything on the menu is completely vegan. The service was great and our server explained any question we had about the ingredients in the food. They even substituted an ingredient that I could not have for one that I could. If your in a hurry though call ahead to order because like I said everything is prepared freshly and that takes time but it’s worth it! Yummy good for you food!

First time here and it was a pre-birthday dinner treated by my friend with her kids. I requested for the table by the window and the server says not enough seats but I suggested moving one chair and getting a high chair for one of my godchildren was a good idea. We showed our server the Groupon coupon and she acknowledge that we can redeem it. The server was very slow and a bit rude to my friend because we wanted to let her know that we were ready to order. Drinks: Mango Bubble(2) and Passion Fruit(1) Appetizers: Steamed Dumpling, Sweet Potato Pancake(had some sorta of nuts which I couldn’t try), and Pan Fried Tofu(way too salty) to replace the Kid’s nuggets Entrée: Philly Sub(2)…so delicious and Sweet & Sour Joy(1)…too much dough and I didn’t even taste any protein The server brought out the entrees(two Philly Subs) before appetizers then I overheard that the kitchen is backed up. The rest of our orders came out really slow like a turtle. My order of Sweet & Sour Joy came to our table at the very end. It took my friend a long time to get the check and when she did the bill was in the wrong total. The server didn’t even know how to apply the Groupon coupon to the bill and even asked my friend… how stupid can you be even though the owner put someone new at the front of the house and behind the register! Finally I got to speak with the owner and translate to straighten out the bill because its not the customer’s fault at all. I didn’t travel all this way from Queens, NY to be treated like this on the day before my birthday! The owner and I finally came to a conclusion and resolved the issue on the bill. The owner offered me a free slice cake for my birthday. It was a nice touch towards the end but customer service was not up to the best at all tonight! Train your employees well because they represent you, Loving Hut! It was a huge disappointment =( Thank god there’s a location in NYC… maybe I will stop by there!

I am vegan, and this establishment is mostly vegan comfort food and asian veganized dishes. I have been coming here for 3 years, and while the service has always been bad and the atmosphere not so great, the prices sure as heck made up for it. The food was affordable and yummy. WAS. Last time I went in, I was shocked that their new menu increased the price of my favorite item, the Chipotle Burger(a fried seitan«chicken» sandwich). The price had gone UP67%!!! How the heck does an establishment justify raising prices 67%??? They’re losing customers really quickly. While they have lunch hour prices, they choose to change to dinner prices on random days without any prior notice. The waitress tried to rationalize with me why the prices went up. Seriously, she had no real points. The only difference between the lunch sandwich and the dinner sandwich was that it came with two tiny(tiny!) extra sides. To boot, the sides were so small that they came in sauce containers. I really hope somebody who knows how to run a business steps in. It’s sad to me that a restaurant trying to promote food for a good cause can so easily deter people. It’s really not worth it for me to go back. I’d rather go to Veggie Heaven in Denville for my vegan food. They have big portions and good prices, and a really nice, clean atmosphere. Loving Hut’s menu is incomprehensible(5 pages of dishes with no descriptions), the seating area is unclean. The service takes forever. And now the prices are extremely high. This place is no longer my go-to vegan restaurant in northern NJ.

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. I got here an hour ago and I still haven’t gotten my food. Everyone else in my table of six has gotten their food(which they all said was cold) I have to leave and I’ve asked for the check twice and nothing has happened. I’ve even asked for my food to go and still it has not arrived. I would never return for cold food and poor service.

My recent visit to Loving Hut was met with a new menu with far more choices as well as nifty décor, including cushioned rattan chairs. The menu currently attached to Unilocal is somewhat outdated. All I needed was one quick glance at the menu to know what I was going to order. The Philly cheese steak on Panini bread — all vegan of course — was a savory and rare find for any of the other veggie establishments in North Jersey. The sandwich came with sweet potato fries and a little sprout salad with what I think was a ginger dressing. My husband ordered two slices of pizza, one of them covered in mushrooms. To drink I ordered a vanilla milkshake and my husband got a fruit smoothie. I can vouch that both were incredibly yummy. If I was only rating the food, with its improved presentation since my last visit more than a year ago, I would give Loving Hut five stars. My only issue was the slow service. Our server was quite personable, but seemingly she was the only server on staff. She brought a bottle of water to our table once we arrived but did not bring glasses until 20 minutes later. I am guessing that the food took a while to prepare and that only one person was working in the kitchen. Perhaps this is typical for Loving Hut on a Sunday evening. I am very willing to return to Loving Hut again, but if I encounter similar slow service again, regardless of the reason, I am not likely to return or show up when my schedule is not tight(which is only two months out of the year.) The location is not likely to attract as many visitors as the restaurant deserves. Although I live in Essex county and 35 minutes away without traffic, I do not mind driving to Ledgewood for tasty vegan food. It is, however, in a tiny strip mall that is easy to pass and unlikely to attract new visitors.

I now feel really inadequate because Tracy writes really good reviews and often times I’m with her and write mine after hers. Ugh. Just go read her review… it’s way better than anything I could write. My food was good. I got a Peace burger and mac and cheese as my app. I don’t know what sauce was on the side vegetables but it was banging. I’m sure it’s nothing too fancy but it really made the sauteed veg amazing. The mac and cheese was good for vegan mac and cheese but I think I’m just not a fan of VMC. Now I know. She said something about a buffet in her review, too, so I definitely would go try that!!! (But take this review as «YAY! I’m a fan!» and would totally go there again.)
