Campsites are very small and close together, with zero privacy; not secluded at all. Sites are clean and well-maintained, though. Yes, there’s a power station that hums all day and all night, but other noises were louder so it wasn’t that big a deal. From your tent you can hear people using the bathroom, for instance. Workers are friendly and nice. Bathrooms are pretty well-maintained, though I forgot flip flops for the shower. :/ They provide firewood, $ 5 per bundle, probably used 2 per day. Several families with little kids, seems like a good place for that. Was quiet at night. You can see the stars. There are«alcohol prohibited» signs everywhere but my friends went out and bought beer anyway. _I was nervous, but they were quiet about it and no one complained. Definitely going to look for more secluded places in the future, though. This is kind of like camping in a stranger’s front yard.

I’ve camped here several times over the years, and it’s a convenient, well-maintained and quiet site. As I’ve universally found with Berkshire County DCR-run campgrounds, the rangers are polite, helpful and informative. It’s a great staging area both for exploring the AT and hiking generally, and for driving around the Berkshires. Indeed, as a couple of the reviewers have griped, this isn’t a campground for those requiring wilderness experiences or isolation from the world … although why anyone would *expect* a campground just a couple minutes drive from the center of Lee to be I can’t for the life of me figure out. Since Mass DCR has pushed everyone to make online reservations for over 15 years now, there’s no excuse at all to fail to scout out your campground to ensure it meets your specifications. No one has any more right to complain that October Mountain is insufficiently rustic than to do so about Boston or Manhattan. While I do appreciate rustic, the campground’s location to me is a feature, not a bug. You really are just a few minutes’ drive from Lee center(and, as to that, not even 10 minutes from the Mass Turnpike), getting a bite at the iconic Joe’s Diner, and exploring all the Berkshires has to offer … at a twentieth the price per night the fancy Berkshire hotels charge.(You do, by the bye, want to do that online reservation deal, at reserveamerica dot com. You don’t technically need a reservation, but weekends in season are generally booked up, and if you just drive here expecting a spot to be open, you might wind up having to drop $ 250/night at one of those ritzy hotels after all.) As far as the site itself goes, it’s split level. The lower level is pretty open and relatively crowded, and it’s where RVs park — and this is a popular area for RVs. It’s also wheelchair-accessible. There are about two dozen sites there. The upper level is quieter, more dispersed and at treeline. There are 18 sites in the main section, and there’s a more isolated area with two tenting sites and three yurts. I’ve always camped in the upper level. Both levels have their own bathrooms, showers and water taps.

October Mountain State Forest campground is very average. The gatekeepers were friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are somewhat small and only have one shower in each of the men/women’s bathrooms(although to be fair it was never in use while we were there). Said shower was also a bit older and, while clean, not very inviting. I was glad I brought shower shoes. The campsites are a decent size and have a fire ring and a grill. You can hear road noise occasionally although it was not as annoying as I thought it might be. Not the fault of the campground, but it was exceedingly buggy so I recommend your deep woods off! There is a nice dishwashing sink which I wish had a faucet that would stay on. Pretty area. Hiking: beware of the hike around the marsh. There are two loops and only one of them seems to be marked on the trail map. The shorter loop is the interpretive loop and the longer one seems to claim that it is 2.5 miles, but it is definitely longer than that. It was also very overgrown which is fine, but I should have worn pants to insure against poison ivy. Also, the marshy parts were pretty, but you might have to take a bit of a foot bath as some of the gangways have given way or are missing.

We had the pleasure of staying in one of the yurts. I’ve never done that before, mostly tent camping myself, but it was a great experience. The campsite is beautiful and well-maintained. The bathrooms and showers are clean and fairly close. The only potential issue is the sites are close to each other, but not overly so. If you camped in the campground before, you know that that’s usually the case. Although we only had interaction with one staff member, she was great and full of information. The only other potential downfall is there’s not a lot to do at the campground. It’s really a place to stay to go into Lee and Lenox andStockbridge. But, for that purpose, it’s practically perfect.

Camped here for a night. There are about 7 or 8 good campsites that are not COMPLETELY open on the main road or literally on top of the neighboring sites. Male sure you request one that is set in if u decide to camp here. In a beautiful area but far away(1+ hour) from almost any of the areas attractions. Also pretty consistent ATV noise coming through to our campsite. It was only $ 12/night tho and the staff was friendly enough. Not ideal but given the right site, could make for a nice camp trip. Bathrooms were acceptable and surrounding campers were polite and friendly.

Great service, well groomed tent sites welcoming of fires, short drive to Tanglewood, hot showers, 16,500 acres of exploration — including the AT… a mighty fine deal at $ 12−14/night! Only gripe is that even the tucked away tent sites are still very close to civilization and light from the bathrooms. And there aren’t really any water/creek side sites, which are, well, awesome. Tips: — type in the address of the camp ground, not the state park name — it may take you to another part of the park. — firewood available to buy from a neighbor on the way in — reserve ahead of time online
