Johnny Ray’s Drive In

I love this place. My wife isn’t crazy about the burgers but I say the food and service is excellent and it is a good value. Diet Coke the best in town for some reason. Their fountain must be set just a tad different.

This place has the BEST tasting burger in KC. They grind their meat fresh every morning and you can tell. Service is always great. I stop there any time I am in Lee’s Summit around a meal time. :)

I had driven the long drive from Branson to Independence, and I’m a trooper. I don’t stop for anything. I was starved, and decided to stop at Johnny Ray’s. It is off of 3^rd street in Lee’s Summit over on 50 high-​way.
Walking in there, it reminded me of the Wheel in Sedalia. The Wheel is no longer with us. But Johnny Ray’s is always there. They are a hamburger joint. The classic cheeseburger with fries sit down and be served place. The cheeseburgers are thin to thick, and I liked my cheese burger. My mom thought it was too thin and too well done.
The booths are red and it looks like a diner in the ’50’s. I really liked Johnny Rays. It was a good place to stop.
On certain nights they have cruise nights, and rightly so. It’s been around forever. So if you’re near by stop and have a cheese burger.

Small little local drive in. Not many table available inside and you cannot eat here with a group larger than 4 people… But the food is amazing! Definitely worth it! If you have a large group, pick it up to go in the drive thru!

Really good food, but it’s a bit overpriced and the owner is AWFUL. My family and I have always had issues in the drive-​through when she is there. Won’t correct a wrong order, argues with customers, yells, etc. She doesn’t deserve the business this places gets…

We went to Johnny’s for the first time tonight. The service was great as was the food. This is a fun diner with good food at great prices.

Absolutely fantastic food and great small restaurant. Been coming here for years and I’ve never ever been disappointed. The burgers are the best in the area, tenderloin sandwiches are huge, great corn nuggets, and shakes.

I enjoy the retro hamburger style restaurant. It’s like stepping back in time. The burgers are great, fries are perfect, I love the corn nuggets. Service has always been great there for us, worth a trip out to Lee’s Summit

I eat here after every Chiefs game. Great burgers and nice people. It’s a little tricky to find as its in a shopping center parking lot but it’s worth the search!

Been going there for years, never a bad experience. Great for a quick bite and fun for kids.

Not a bad little drive-​in, good food, a little over priced but nothing that will break the bank. Pleasant counter staff. Will definitely return.

Their steakburgers are soooo dang delicious (I usually manage to finish a double with cheese.
Plus they offer a plethora of fried goodness: not just mozzerella sticks and jalepeno poppers… their fried okra was spot on today.
They also do various malts, my faves: blackberry malt and butterscotch, though they are rich.
Naughty, I know…
Next time, I’m gonna try the fried pickles, curds and fried cauliflower.

Like a place from the past. Hamburger and fry’s are the best. Pork tender less you wishing you should have went for the burger Shakes are really good

This is now one of my favorite places to eat in Lees Summit. I love diner food and always have but diners have pretty much disappeared.
This place is very small but has huge flavor! Everyone here is super friendly and is pretty much like a family.
I enjoyed the Pork Tenderloin with fries. First off, this sandwich was massive. I could barely eat half. It was super amazing! I also enjoyed a side of corn nuggets & a strawberry shake. SO much food but it all came fresh and hot. I loved every minute of it.
Beware: this food is comfort food so make time for a nap afterwards.

Johnny Ray’s is a joke of a business. Nephew was hired, took him in for training, person wasn’t there & owner just told him to go home. Tried to speak w/​owner, her attitude was disgusting & rude. Can’t trust a business under such a rude person. It’s a shame, liked this place until I met her!

Ate here for the first time today with my hubby. I must say it was awesome! We usually don’t eat greasy food but it was a date and we love places like this. Fried mushrooms were my favorite! I loved that they had corn dogs, tater tots, fried zuchinni and okra on the menu. Will have to come back and try those. It was a little crowded because it’s so small but I think it added to the experience.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! I had lunch here today with my fiancé and it was so yummy. I loved everything I ate (bacon steakburger, fries, and a strawberry shake) and the service was great. I will definitely be back soon.

The best Lee’s Summit spot! To the angry reviewer above… There is nothing more American than hard work and Johnny Ray’s. You don’t go here for a Michael Smith Rare Kobe burger with a side of wasabi yam fries, rather for a greasy, yummy, all-​American steak burger and normal fries.
I agree that the chocolate shake is not that good, however, it’s the best diet coke you will ever have.
There is a reason this place has been around… it’s good.

If we are in Lee’s Summit and want a Burger we generally head over to Johnny Ray’s Drive In. My favorite burger at Johnny Ray’s is the Double Steakburger with Cheese. It is about a three napkin sandwich (the minimum number of napkins needed to keep from wearing your food on your face and clothes). However, if you like them loaded up with all the fixings — including lettuce, tomato, pickle chips, onion, mustard and ketchup — you will easily need seven napkins, maybe more!
That’s the way Hubby and I like them! It may be kind of sloppy to eat but in my estimation Johnny Ray’s is the best burger in Lee’s Summit and it has been doing this for years and still has original ownership. It’s a small place with only a few booths around the walls and the counter is a big U so the waitress can keep you supplied with shakes & malts, spicy fries, onion rings and refills on your fountain drink. There is a jukebox by the door. And if the place is full, there is a drive through.
The menu has most of the fast food standard items you will find everywhere — they just do them very well. I know that lots of places serve Burgers but Johnny Ray’s Drive-​In does them the best in Lee’s Summit. Maybe The Best of the Independently owned joints in the Kansas City area?
