The Lucketts Community Center was originally a rural schoolhouse that operated from 1916 – 1972. It is now a civic community center operated by Loudoun Parks and Rec. The building is on the National Register for Historic Places. The Lucketts Schoolhouse is currently the only venue in NoVa to provide a regular schedule of bluegrass music. one time, metro DC considered itself, with good reason, to be the Bluegrass music Capitol of the U.S.Bands like the Seldom Scene, the Country Gentlemen and the Johnson Mountain Boys called the area home. Nightclubs like the Cellar Door, the Birchmere, and Partners Two provided a regular forum for bands to perform; a little community center in Lucketts would schedule Saturday night concerts of bluegrass artists. Inexplicably, the bluegrass scene in DC vanished seemingly overnight in the mid 1980’s. The Cellar Door closed, Partners Two burned down, and the Birchmire refocused on folk, blues and country. Very the old schoolhouse never stopped featuring bluegrass. It is now wrapping up it’s 40th season. During the season, performances are on Saturday nights. Tickets are $ 18. First come, first seated. The auditorium seats about 200.
