In my opinion, East County certainly boasts some of the saddest and most unfavorable bars in San Diego but this place is the worst. Do not go to this bar unless you are into making poor life choices. I have been bar hopping around East County since I moved to La Mesa from L.A. this past summer. You know, trying to get acquainted and discover my side of town. Well, that quest ended this past weekend. I’m done with East County watering holes. I’m sticking with anything west of the 805! The crowd resembled side show carnival acts. Not even 15 seconds into walking in we were approached by a Walking Dead meth head looking for someone to play pool with her. Just when we thought we saw the worst, one of the bar girls was tongue kissing and humping random men in the bar. If you hate yourself, you’ll probably have a fun time here.

Great prices, good people, bartenders are spot on. Play darts here for years now, always a good time. The owners are the best.

Have been going here on and off for years, sometimes meeting friends here that I haven’t seen in years from the old neighborhood. Stopped in last weekend Friday. My friend and I walked directly to the restroom when in behind us came a wicked looking women who apparently worked there. She walked in walked out. We were in there for a few more minutes when again this crazy women appeared asking us if we were alright. I replied«yes we are». After that we walked out of the bathroom laughing and were immediately approached by the outside door guy who proceeded to tell us we had to leave. This is just the stupidest thing ever! We walked in probably in more dressier clothing than the others in the bar as we had just come from a venue in Coronado. I don’t know if that was the case or if the crazy woman was jealous. I really don’t know but to be asked to leave a bar you didn’t even have a drink in, only used the bathroom in, is just the craziest thing ever. The door guy didn’t even provide a reason for asking us to leave. Let me tell you, I have come in here and spent mad money on many occasions. Dirk, you lost when you lost Evo, you lost when you hired the crazy women with black hair as some sort of security. You lost with the unfriendly’s behind the bar. The whole atmosphere has changed. I think you are trying to entertain a younger crowd and it’s not going to work. Your place needed a facelift, not new staff. It’s sad because we have been coming to your place Dirk, for years and we won’t be back. Not me, not the old gang who happen to be very successful«older» folks!!!

Reading the reviews of customers who attend this places makes me sick. Ghetto blacks? Must be a white racist conservative infested bar! No thanks.

Came into Dirk’s the other day just to hang out for a bit. My goodness, I haven’t been here in years! The bartenders here are very nice. We ordered two Amber Bock beers, mine was with an orange twist. Shift change came and we ordered another beer. The bartender did not forget to add my orange twist. That was awesome! The place pretty much still looks the same. Pool table, three dart boards, the karaōke stage and the dance floor/band stage. I still liked the vibe here after all of these years. Would I come back? Yup, I sure would.

Yea, I guess it’s official, ‘I’m a dive bar lover’. Seems these days the places I have the most fun at are dive bars. This one is no where near where I live but, when I find myself in San Diego within reasonable traveling distance to Lemon Grove on Friday/Saturday night I’m all in to go to Dirks. * Friendly door staff, security. No attitude. * Friendly bartenders and wait staff who provide good service for drinks * Great music, sound system, dance floor and friendly patrons It’s a cool little bar the kind of bar if it was closer — I’d be there more. Dirk’s always puts a smile on my face when I party there. Wait, maybe that’s the Grey Goose & Soda’s. Either way, ‘I really like this bar’.

A cute little place where you can hear a mediocre band and watch over the hill women do the trying not to fall on the dance floor and wave their hair around and somewhat enjoy the drinks watching it all.

I was pretty out of place at Dirks. A younger guy in a professional bar in the middle of the day. But I needed a place that wasn’t packed to watch the game. There was plenty of seating, the bartender was cute for an older woman, and everytime the chargers scored a touchdown she gave out dollar shots. I don’t do liquor though so I didnt partake, but I’m sure others would enjoy the cheap drinks. I also enjoyed the drunk white trash arguments and outbursts although I kind of felt sorry for the bartender for having to deal with it. At one point I thought I was gonna have to double as a bouncer. Stay classy Dirk’s.

I have loved Dirks for years. it’s not fancy but a great place to shoot some pool and play darts. We love the live music every weekend and that’s why people have been regularly for MANY years. The comment posted earlier about being stuck in the 70’s’ is bogus. The kids dont care and want this bar to be another DJ scene just like all of the other crappy cloned bars. It would be a terrible mistake to change it given the neighborhood would draw the ghetto hip hop crowd. This mistake could be costly for the owners. It would drive away the good people and become a crime infested all black bar. The regulars care about this bar. So if the owners read this post. Keep the 70 ’ 80’s and 90 ’ live rock and roll music. Maybe on Sundays an acoustic band like in my neighborhood it keeps out the undesirables that think rap is talent.

Really nice staff. Kind of out of the way — my friend took me here as he’s a regular. They’re always celebrating regulars’ bdays, staff’s bdays, really cool specials and events like people making BBQ, DJ nights, live karaōke. I got a slice of some bday cake last time I was here! The owner is a really cool guy.

I like this place because it has a good mix of people, old, young and in between. It has live music and updated juke box technology. Some nights karaōke. They have computerized games, darts and pool. The outdoor patio is the best I have found at ANY dive bar from here to East county. So if dive is what I like… this is the best of… To me.

There are few bars in the WORLD where anyone could walk in and immediately feel like the«prettiest girl at the bar». Dirk’s Nightclub is one of those places. But don’t let your apprehension overcome you, if you accept Dirk’s– Dirk will accept you. The place has more colorful characters than Jim Henson’s funeral, and if someone doesn’t buy you a shot during your stay the drinks are cheap enough to make you feel pretty. The patrons are friendly as they wage their personal wars with the harsh realities of life and gravity, but they don’t pretend to be anything other than regular people. The live music will be old time rock’n’ roll, and the dance floor will be forgiving. If this is purgatory… sign me up.

Based on the outside I expected it to be ghetto, but no, this place is just filled with people who are a little odd. After leaving, I was convinced that I was actually«normal.» The bartender and the waitresses are cool. The band playing had a random selection of 80s-00s music. It seems as if this place tries their best to keep their calendar full so the peeps can party on. Cougars dominated the dance floor and people watching became my favorite pastime. I watched a lady get dropped during a dip and somehow she was not even phased, I watched some random guys try to pick up these cougars on the dance floor with some pre-teen 90s dance moves. The night was extremely entertaining and just for that I am pretty sure I’ll be back.

I happen to find myself at Dirk’s against my better judgment. All I wanted was a soothing drink after a long day at work. The very moment I arrived at Dirk’s I was accosted by none other than a prostitute who told me that she was the bar maid. Keep in mind I am not using colorful metaphors to describe my personal feelings of this young lady but she was in fact a whore in occupation. Thinking she was a bar maid I ordered from her and that is how I got hornswoggled into paying for not only one overpriced drink but two. They also are a cash only place like any classy local establishment, but at least I didn’t have to wait to have the bartender run a card, I just paid the bartender before quickly ditching the lady of the night, never to return to Dirk’s again. Needless to say this place was not my scene, but if you’re down for sketchiness, overpriced drinks, and pushy hookers, then Dirk’s is the place for you! The End.

Dirks is a super fun local bar. The bartenders are great & the waitresses are right on! Dirk, the owner LOVE’s this place & it shows. The place is kept at a ROCKIN pace! On the weekends live local bands entertain and on Sundays & Wednesdays Dave Magown has an AWESOME Karaōke show. The few times I’ve been there everyone was having a great time… I will definitely be back!

This joint looks like crap from the outside Its on a semi-busy street in the depressing neighborhood known as Lemon Grove, surrounded by old and tired looking business. I didnt even know that they had bands play here. From the name alone I thought that it was a low key titty bar that was paying homage to Dirk Diggler from Boogie Nights. Its a bar that has cheap drinks and from what I could tell, a predominantly local clientele. I seriously doubt that this is a destination bar unless a good band is playing. I swear, Lemon Grove seems to be stuck in the 70’s and they need to revamp this area, like last decade.

I managed to find myself at Dirk’s and despite my initial apprehension I wound up having a great time. They had a live band covering 80’s songs and cheesy 90’s music(I believe Bush and Spin Doctor’s made the set list), but it was a fun little vibe. We had a special treat as there was a guest singer(one of the dudes that plays in another regular Dirk’s band) who thought he was pretty hot and got so drunk he kept saying«let’s get naked!» Pretty divey, but they do a good job of keeping their calendar packed with live music, and a dart and/or pool league(something like that). You can tell the owner is passionate about the place. Stiff drinks. Lots of cougers. Fun bartender. A Kraft vending machine serving up hot foods like chicken, bacon ranch sandwiches, hot«wyngz», and pizza(no joke). What else could you ask for? Dirk’s has a special place in my heart and I’ll undoubtedly be back.
