Lot of worms for your $ 35.00! Also received plenty of information about castings and tea. Enjoyed talking with David about his trees, tomatoes and, of course, his worms!

I often think of Karla and her worm operation, assisted by her enthusiastic dad, when I change out my worm trays and never worry about tossing too many worms into the garden with the castings. I bought 5 gallons from them about three years ago and I have had a thriving population of red wigglers ever since. These are a productive lot. I especially loved how professional young Karla was, explaining how this was going toward her college savings(she was possibly still in elementary school at the time). She taught me a lot about worms, pointed out the pregnant ones, the deposited eggs, how the worms absolutely love pizza boxes. I layer cardboard on top of all the other goodies, knowing that’s their roof of choice and extra insulation. I’m so glad I didn’t mail-order Eisenia – getting the worms from Karla and her dad was a fun experience and good karma for the soil.

I couldn’t find anyone who sells red wigglers in the area. Back in my hometown you could get them at almost any pet store, but apparently here, they aren’t as easy to find. I started thinking I was going to have to buy some online until I found this place. He gives you a 5 gallon bucket for $ 25. The bucket is filled with scoops of dirt strait from his own piles. He digs in there to make sure he is giving you really worm dense scoops. No idea how many worms there are, but there were a ton, plus lots of worm eggs just waiting to be hatched. It was also nice that I didn’t have to worry about them adjusting to a new environment since he basically gives you there own environment. The guy is really nice and very talkative. I stayed there over an hour just talking about the whole process. Plus he has some fruit trees in his yard. They are living proof that the castings and tea are good, because they are all very good looking trees just loaded with fruit. He gave me a bag of fruit to take home with me too which is awesome because he had a fruit I had never even tried before. Definitely recommend this guy.

5+ gallons of worm castings, 5+ gallons of worms & eggs, 1+ gallon of worm tea, plant cuttings and whatever produce is growing that month, plus instructions, clever jokes, and good stories. $ 25 — but I’d recommend tipping the generous host. Take your time and enjoy your visit to Karla’s Red Wigglee Worm Ranch. I hope to return to share some of my harvest next month.
