Great TJ style tacos and all freshly made. Couldn’t believe we lived so close to here for a year before discovering it. 99 cent tacos on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. My Mexican husband says their lengua is done perfectly.

Don’t waste your money. I don’t know why this place got so many good reviews. The reviews are what brought us here but we’re definitely never going back. We ordered the California burrito and 5 beef rolled tacos totaling $ 12. The burrito was almost inedible. My boyfriend and I shared it and he spit out his first bite and went on to eat the rolled tacos, which were«ok» at best. I ate about half the burrito just because I didn’t want to feel like I totally wasted my money. We threw out 2 of the rolled tacos and the other half of the burrito and ate cereal for dinner. At the salsa bar there was a gross short black hair in the limes. Don’t go! I wish we dined in so I could have got my money back.

Ordered the«specialty of the house» Carnitas plate with cheese quesadilla and chicken and guacamole. Took the woman 10 mins to figure out how to place the order in the computer. That should’ve warned me but I went ahead and ordered it anyway. Carnitas and chicken were mixed together and virtually indistinguishable, except the carnitas was drier than the chicken, and the chicken was really dry. Quesadilla had almost no cheese. Never seen anything like it. Guacamole was a very small portion and thoroughly unremarkable. Also made the mistake of asking for some chips. Just bad. Salsa was ok I guess. I won’t be back.

This is our GOTO Mexican place. My husband is in love with the super burrito, which puts everything in a burrito. EVERYTHING. As for me, the veggie burrito is large, the bean and cheese burritos have lots of cheese! The hottest green sauce they have is also really really good if you like spicy sauce. It’s creamy too which makes it even better. Definitely stop here and try them!

It’s been hard to find an authentic Mexican place in the area. but i’ve finally found it! I’m a vegetarian so i always have a mulita with rajas, veggie burrito, or rajas tamale. Always great flavors. Yum yum yum!

Yes, amazing. Another 5 stars. I’m considered a regular here by the amount of times I come here. When you have always enjoyed the service, the food and the price, you start forgetting little things like ambiance. This place is amazing.

This is the kind of Mexican that San Diegans brag about to out of towners. Besides going down to TJ or some taco trucks around, this hole in the wall is pretty much as authentic as you can get. Tamales, tacos(including al pastor, mmmm!), tortas, and anything else your taste buds desire they have and it’s delicious! Definitely recommended if you’re in the area. Plus, the prices are great!

Lemon Grove isn’t generally known for its authentic Mexican cuisine but Sabor is definitely one of the better taco shops in San Diego County. I have been a customer for over 8 years and the quality of the meat, friendly service, and amazing salsa is what has kept me coming back. A big issue I have noticed with an overwhelming majority of taco shops in San Diego is they tend to use low quality carne and over cook it to the point where its nearly burnt. Not at Sabor! They use high quality meat and cook it to perfection, you can really taste the difference between their meat and their competitors in Lemon Grove. The best time to go is in the morning/afternoon when Kamal or his wife is cooking. In the few times I have eaten there at night, there was a different cook and even though the meat was great, the food just was not the same. If you’re a fish taco fan I highly recommend the grilled fish taco. The fish, cilantro, cabbage are fresh, and they use premium avocado(not sure what the individual in the prior reviews was talking about with regards to their guac). As someone who enjoys really spicy food I have to give fair warning, they include a chipotle sauce on their fish taco that is extremely spicy but very delicious. The salsa is by far the best I have ever had, anywhere, period. Especially the jalapeño green salsa, they make it fresh every morning. I’d say the only downside to this joint is the parking is somewhat tight, other than that this place is truly the jewel of Lemon Grove taco shops.

They finally upgraded the booths! The previous ripped plastic cushion booths desperately needed to be changed out. This place is small and there are no bathrooms but the food is authentic and delicious(pass on taco Tuesday) and the staff does what they can to take your order and pump the food out quickly without compromising the taste. Ordered Caldo de res and asked if they could split it into two bowls. They did and it looked like two separate orders. Perfect for $ 6.99 and so tasty. Ordered a beef tamale for my daughter and she loved it. Hard to please a 2 ½ year old but she ate almost the entire thing and I ate the rest. Not too bad at all. The only reason I wouldn’t give 5 stars is that I came here for taco Tuesday once and it was a joke. I would rather visit my local taco truck to pay $ 1.25 for a large fresh fish taco than a tiny corn tortilla with a teaspoon full of meat. Will definitely come back. The caldo was delicious.

I would give this place 5 stars for food! But if the old man is behind the cash register than don’t expect to get good service from him. He is not accommodating and does not ring up your food if you call ahead.

WOW! This little taco shop definitely delivers with BIG flavor! Hence the name! I really enjoyed my 3 carne asada street tacos and my battered fish taco. The street tacos came with a very fresh and delicious corn tortilla, well marinated meat, onions and cilantro as well as an avocado sauce. My fish taco was nicely battered and came with a nicely flavored chipotle sauce. Chips were also very good!!! Couple things I didn’t care for was they served me with lukewarm water and the place can get really warm on a hot day. No a/c.

This little whole on the wall is by far the best taco shop in lemon grove, you can go wrong when you go on taco Tuesday. .99 cent tacos are hand made and not greasy, friendly cashiers.

Was craving a bean and cheese burrito. I was in the area so i decided to stop in. Place is small and worn, but relatively the standard fair for a taco shop. Seemed clean to me. Prices were normal, except for the«extras», which I will come back to. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito with a side of guacamole. Got home, tore into it cause I was starving. First thing I notice is that the side of guacamole is TINY. I’ve paid the same price for twice the amount, sometimes more at other taco shops. They use the same container for the«extras» that are available for their salsa bar. Second thing I notice is that the«guacamole» is so watered down, it runs and drips with the consistency of salsa. I don’t know what they put in it, but avocado is definitely nowhere near the main ingredient. Made me miss my normal taco shop, where the guac is thick, chunky, and bright tasting, the way it should be.(My normal place was too far away during errands). Third thing I notice is that either they put a very light sprinkle of cheese in my bean and cheese burrito, or they got my order wrong and just happened to accidentally drop a tiny amount of cheese in what they thought was supposed to be a plain bean burrito. All in all, it was at least edible. Service was fine, not great but not bad. Prices are on par with most taco shops. I hope their other stuff earns the rating this place has, and that my experience was just a fluke. Either way, won’t be stopping by again. Too many other taco places to try!

Stopped in for lunch as this mom & pop taco shop is conveniently located in the laundromat strip mall next to the Smart & Final. I just feel like talking about their hot sauce. I liked that green hot sauce. They had a mild green sauce and a medium red sauce(that was more mild IMO), but the other green hot sauce had kick. It was a mellow heat that builds up after each bite, and I just wanted to keep eating more of it on everything. Mom said it was too spicy for her. Other notables: — no drive thru — 50¢ transaction fee on credit cards — 99¢ mini Taco Tuesday & Wednesday Service was friendly and the food was cooked to order. One can never have too many tacos, so I’ll try to check out the weekday street tacos deal sometime. Without reading all of the other detailed reviews, it seems like their green hot sauce has earned some popularity. I’m on board with that, since the Sabor is packing heat in that salsa.

Sabor has been bookmarked for quite a while and I just so happened to be in the area on a Friday evening. Pronounced flavor in English, Sabor is a small little place sitting in a strip mall( ), which for me didn’t pack too much flavor. Just walking into the place, the smells and looks reeked low quality and uncleanliness. With Mexican food places, flavor and cleanliness don’t go hand and hand though, so I gave it a shot anyway. While walking in, you might miss it, but the salsa bar( ) stands as a little island in the middle of the restaurant, as you can see it was plenty empty of goodies when I arrived. Their menu( ) has the typical taco shop faire, but it does include some different stuff like huaraches, gorditas, and mulitas. The five rolled tacos( ) came complete with Mexican guacamole, pico de gallo and loads of cheese. They were not skimpy on the guac, they piled it on! To my unfortunate discovery, the tacos lacked crispiness, they could have done a little longer being fried. The meat inside wasn’t flavorful, it tasted kind of nasty really. Rolled tacos were quite the let down. The«super» burrito( ) was anything but super for me. It consisted of meat, cheese, guac, sour cream, rice and beans. The ratios of the food were way off, they over packed this thing full of rice and sour cream. So basically I was eating a sour cream rice burrito with a little bit of meat and guacamole. The burrito was definitely rubbish, although it was quite large in size. My experience with Sabor leaves me wondering how it scored such a high rating amongst our Unilocal peers. Perhaps I got a bad cook, or maybe an off day? None the less, Sabor lacked flavor and good food. Lemon Grove has taco shops all over Broadway, hopefully this isn’t the best that Lemon Grove has to offer.

Hah! It’s been a few years but just as yummy as I had hoped. The new Manfriend lives around the corner, so I finally had a chance to visit. Ordered: Shrimp Burrito w/out rice and extra lettuce and pico… ohhh yum! Not too salty, as other places seem to make the mistake in doing. & it’s big! ;) They also have my favorite kind of cilantro salsa that has a kick. But with chips, just can’t stop eating it! Other descriptive phrases: Small. Mom & Pop. hole in the wall. Cheap. Free salsa bar. Simply Yum.

These tacos are on par with the street tacos in Tijuana. One of those mom and pop shops that is owned by a really sweet family. The lady that always rings us up barely speaks English, but she can understand my broken spanish so that works for me! :) I love the carne asada tacos, the meat is cook a little burnt with a little bit of fat that is well seasoned. In my opinion, that is the best combination! My younger brother loves their carne asada fries, and I think that if we didn’t always tease him, he would actually finish 2 orders in one sitting. The green guacamole flavored sauce that they have is absolutely phenomenal. If they sold that in bottles, I would totally buy it. The fish tacos(breaded and grilled) are also amazing. My personal favorite is the grilled, but my best friend and my mom prefer the former. With that said, you can be the judge, can’t go wrong either way though. No complaints here. Sincerely, Cliente Feliz :)
