This diner has new owners and a new name the Yankee Doodle Diner. They offer a menu of Mexican breakfasts which are absolutely delicious. The huevos rancheros are amazing! Their bacon is served thick and crispy. The coffee is excellent. the dining room is immaculately clean, in fact we watched an employee completely wipe down the booth after diners left before the table was reset.

No longer the river-view but now the Yankee Doodle. Its under new management and a perfect breakfast spot. Great price, clean dining and good food. Nothing fancy here, but for breakfast what more do you need? They boast«a great omelet» and I have to agree. It’s a traditional omelet and done well. If you prefer a folded omelet you may not like it. But if you like an old fashioned mix-in omelet, then I’d definitely give this place a try.

Not fancy at all; booth had massive rips in seat — they say currently remodeling so give them leeway on this. Pancakes were okay, not great. I’m a hash brown guy; they only have home fries. Tried an omelet with chorizo it was not great. I’m from San Francisco, if you serve this out there you would get laughed at. In central pa, not so bad. Overall B–

While it’s nothing fancy or worth going out of your way to visit, I think this diner has some of the best french toast. The décor is typical diner environment where you either get great service or awful service.

Stopped in for breakfast while I was in Wormleysburg. Ordered the Diablo omelet(tomato, onion, cheese, chorizo) Burrito style, crispy home fries. Took about 15 minutes to get, which I thought was kind of long. Was expecting one large wrap, instead it was two smaller sizes, not a big deal. Pretty tasty, definitely had a kick to it. Home fries were just crispy enough to qualify as crispy. Food gets a B– The service though was lacking. After I was seated, I waited several minutes before anyone even acknowledged I was there. Waitress came by and took my order which included a water and coffee w/creamer. She brought those back, but no creamers. Had to ask for it twice. Like I said before, the food took a bit, but the waitress did apologize and thank me for my patience, so she must have thought it was awhile too. To be fair, I think a party of 18 or so had just been seated a few minutes before me, but still the place wasn’t that busy. I also had to ask twice for a refill on the water. The waitress was real friendly, maybe just a little forgetful. If you’re in this area and looking for this type of fare, opt for Summerdale Diner.

Hurricane Irene left us powerless so breakfast out was the goal of the morning. We tried to go to Summerdale(hands-down my favorite diner in the area) but emergency crews and power outages made that a non-starter. We decided to drive and we ended up at Yankee Doodle. The place was cold. The marble tables were so cold we couldn’t place our arms against them. Not a comfortable start on a cold, windy, and rainy morning. We ordered coffee and it took a long time for it to arrive. Not a welcome event when your table feels like ice. I’ve rarely seen it take more than about 60 second during breakfast service at a diner. This was more than 5 minutes. The hubby and I opted for omelettes. Hubby ordered the Diablo and I ordered something that started with a P and it had chorizo, cheese, and jalapenos. My daughter ordered the kid’s French toast and my son asked for a grilled cheese. I’ll start with the kids. The grilled cheese was skimpy and the only side was a bag of chips. My son pulled the bread apart and it looked like a single slice of American cheese was used. Hubby thinks that was about $ 4 and if it was they probably made a $ 3.50 profit. Daughter’s order was about $ 5 and included a small milk, a single slice of French toast, and two slices of bacon. The French toast was on the small side, appearing to have been made with skimpy sandwich bread. The bacon was decent. They probably made a $ 4 profit on that deal. My hubby’s omelette(while sounding interesting) was covered with too much chipotle sauce. It overwhelmed everything else and his meal was more like chipotle sauce with eggs. My omelette(while also sounding interesting) had two small crumbles of chorizo and about 5 slices of pickled jalapeño. The cheese was American(to the best of my discernment). Overall it was bland(even with the allegedly spicy sausage and the whimpy jalapenos. Both omelettes came with home fries and toast. I asked for my toast to be dark but it came to the table barely toasted but bone dry. It was so under-toasted there were large sections that were not even toasted. The toast was so dry(I chose the rye) I had to take a sip of coffee with each bite just to chew and make it go down. I hate home fries but can find them tolerable if cooked nice and crispy. I asked for them to be very, very, very crispy. They were a mushy mess. No flavor, just a bunch of cooked sliced potatoes. Blech! Even with salt and pepper they were miserable. I know many PA people drench them with ketchup but I dislike ketchup so I was out of luck. Hubby’s home fries were also mushy. Both omelettes were over $ 6. Hubby also ordered a side of scrapple and he wanted it nice and crispy. It was another item not served crispy. The slice was thick, but it was all gray. There were no crispy brown areas. It was over $ 3 just for that slice. The service was terrible, terrible, terrible. We spent a lot of time with no coffee to drink. I was fortunate enough to a small pot of decaf at the table(until that was gone). Hubby spent most of his time wondering when someone would come around with a pot so he could get a refill. When he caught a different server(who seemed to be going a good job) she filled his cup but that was the exception. As we left, my daughter exclaimed that she was still starving because her portion was too small. My son only ate half of the sandwich before announcing he didn’t like the taste of it. Hubby was in chipotle overload and wanted to go find a cup of coffee since he didn’t get enough. I wanted to know why I only had two tiny pieces of chorizo in my omelette. Now, a little more that 12 hours later, Hubby and I both feel sick in our stomachs(a rarity in our house). The only thing we had today which was similar was breakfast. After almost simultaneously announcing we didn’t feel well, we both mentioned that something didn’t taste right at breakfast. Go figure.

Its diner food … pure & simple. Wait staff has always been friendly & fast. Recent name change to Yankee Doodle Diner sounds lame but nothing inside has changed. Perfect for Sunday morning eggs & bacon … close to home.

Not horrible, not great either. Just… Diner food. The portions were large, the selection was decent and the service was so-so, but the thing I liked best about this place is that it’s 24 hours like a Diner is supposed to be! What the heck, American Dream Diner?!
