I’m kind of easy to please because I’m not to picky. But I love this place. Their philly subs are very good. My fiancé also agrees. Very decent price plus they do deliver. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that wants a philly sub or a quick bite.

Pre/Over-cooked meat reheated on the grill with some au jus. I’ve had good Phillies elsewhere and this isn’t it. It’s super salted to the point where it’s nearly inedible. The good points are the fries and accompaniments. I guess if you’re really hankering for a Philly; you could stop in and test your constitution; but you’re better served finding a Jason’s Deli and getting their beefeater. Just saying…

This was the best sandwich ever! The staff was very friendly! I tried the onion rings and a fire chief! Yummmm! I’ll be back for sure

I was so unfortunately disappointed! When I’m spending $ 60 + for 2 adult sandwiches and 4 kids meals I expect to somewhat enjoy it! So much went wrong with this order. I was thrilled about the delivery option until it took 1 hr 45 min to get to my house(quoted 45 – 60 min). As you can guess our food had been setting for quite a bit of time! The fries were so stale and soggy they were sticking together in one large clump, the bread from the philly sandwiches fell right out on the bottom from getting so soggy. Extremely unhappy experience.

What’s happened to quality these days? The Philly cheese steak here just seemed flavorless. They over cooked the meat, undercooked the onions, and stuffed it all in a huge roll that just fills you up. Ever hear of a fresh roll. Maybe something you don’t go buy at Costco. And is there anyway someone could clean your bbq containers? Nasty. Dried sauce around the rim? Eeks. I just see a restaurant that has become complacent and comfortable with current customer base. I watched a man cleaning tables, wait, he watched more tv then worked. But what he did clean he used a wet towel to walk around and rub it on tables, chairs, rails, and even the trash can. Yes… he used the same rag to clean your table as he used to wipe down the trash area. Wth?

This place has changed a lot in the last 5 years. They have always been a bit overpriced for what you get but it use to be the only game in town for a semi-decent Steak and Cheese Philly. The fried food here has always been sub-par and the subs always seem small and filled with more filling stuff than meat and never enough cheese. The restaurant itself isn’t horrible, cute train(when it’s running), plenty of booths(even though a lot of them have holes in them) and a couple of throwback video games(that are half working). But again, only game in town you kinda have to deal with it! Recently they jacked up the prices to compete with the new Pepper Jax Grill(Pflumm and Shawnee Mission 3 miles away). The problem with that is simple, you cant just raise your prices and serve the same mediocre food and expect people to deal with it. A family of four ordering 4 combo meals for take out fast food shouldn’t cost $ 50! Simply put Pepper Jax Grill makes a way better Philly than Chartreuse Caboose and at a very comparable price!

I’m not a cheesesteak person, but a friend recommended the place and I got a voucher from Front Flip for my birthday, so I thought I’d try them out. It was delicious! So good. I’ll be back. I think I got the Zephyr, plus a chocolate chip cookie. It was all divine. The staff was really friendly! My only concern was them keeping their«hotel» pan of uncooked meat sitting partially on the grill. Wouldn’t that make the bottom meat start cooking and maybe be in the danger range for temperature?

Big fan of cheesesteaks and this place could be a lot better. Service has always been good over the years but the sandwiches have never rose above ok. Not bad, just ok. My biggest problem w/their steaks is that they are very salty to the point where every bite is overshadowed by the clear taste of salt. Next, the rolls are just ok. Philly steaks depend on the roll being as dynamic as the other ingredients. Nothing about the rolls here speak beyond average. They taste like you can find them on the shelf at the supermarket. Kids eat free on Sundays which is nice touch but the sandwiches are just ok.

I don’t really like it the food is ok they have a good cheese fries but the I would go to pepperjax Grill instead I think you’ll be happier or anywhere else they are not very friendly here and they give you your food on a toaster oven metal tray and it is just overpriced and unfriendly

We ordered 3 meals. None of them were memorable. The cookie in the kids meal was soggy, the onion rings were burnt, the sandwiches were bland, & all of the soda in the machine was flat. I am a big Philly fan so, I do not make this statement lightly. Subway has a better Philly. We will NOT be back.

Without a doubt one of the best Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches I have ever had. This place is a regular stop when I’m in KC.

I have always liked Chartroose Caboose, but now that I don’t live in the neighborhood I don’t make it often. When I first pulled in it was a tough choice with the Ethiopian restaurant right next door, but I was in the mood for a Philly. I am not a huge green pepper fan. I also do not like a lot of onions and really only like the flavor so only want them cooked into things. So why would I go for a Philly? I like a good beef sandwich! I always order mine with mushrooms and cheese, sometimes getting a side of au jus. The sandwiches are prepared as you order so always fresh. Fries and onion rings are pretty much cooked to order also. This can cause some traffic jams with the drink station and condiments right behind where you order and pick up food. The beef is always tender. Cooked on the grill with the au jus makes it nice and moist. The bun is toasted and lined with cheese to melt when the beef is added. If you have mushrooms, peppers, or onions, they are mixed into the beef on the grill before being added to the bun. I have always thought the mushrooms were a little stingy, but the overall sandwich is solid. They have cut back on the salt in the au jus. This is a plus as the sandwich used to be a touch too salty. It isn’t the best beef sandwich you will find, but they are good and consistent. One of the few Philly places in town, but no Whiz for true Philly lovers.

I have to say that I was not blown away by CC. It was an experience that I could have taken or left. The store was one that definitely had seen better days. It was a lot more«moms and pops» than I had expected. The neon sign was buzzing and the TV was fuzzy… They have a video game room with lots of «vintage» video games. I ordered the Chief Philly Cheese Steak. I got jalapenos added to it at no charge. I got the combo with fries and large soda for $ 10. The fries were good and the sandwich was lackluster. It seemed under seasoned and didn’t have much cheese on it. So far this really is a two star review, but I think that the service was outstanding(for a counter service restaurant). They honored a coupon from another CC location and were very helpful with my decision making. When I asked for jalapenos the sandwich was almost completely prepared and they didn’t bat an eye. I would give CC another go on a dine-in basis.

If you don’t know what a Philly it’s supposed to taste like, come on in. The meat was sub-par and they skimped on the cheese, but the fries were pretty decent. Philly Time in KCMO is much closer to weekday a Philly should embody. Even with the coupon I used from an Entertainment Book, I felt a little sad inside about value versus taste. Next time, I’ll drive a half-hour to get a decent Philly.

This is a greasy sandwich that passes for a philly cheese steak in Kansas. I have had better philly cheese steaks. Given the better cheese steaks I have had were on the East Coast. No one just really eat a Philly Cheese Steak in Kansas if they have eaten one on the East Coast. Husband likes the Zephyr. I don’t really like anything here. You pick the sandwich up and grease dips off and fills your cardboard holder with enough grease to fry the french fries. The fries are ok, usually a little cold, but the are the skin on kind which I like. The train that runs around the top of the place is cute, but cute doesn’t taste good. The tables have always been dirty when I have gone in and the condiment area doesn’t have a sneeze guard which is just gross.

Sometimes the simpler, the better. Take the Chartroose Caboose in Lenexa. Dining Room is simple and sparsely decorated but it has a powerful railroad theme, that is enjoyable. For Philly type cheese steak sandwiches, this place is near the top. I’m ashamed to admit that I have only had one thing off the menu, but it is so good that I can’t bring myself to stray from it when I enter. All sandwiches have railroad inspired names from either long lost trains, railroad companies or cities known along the tracks. The Zephyr is my choice: mushrooms, onions, beef and cheese. No green peppers… they don’t seem to like me. But you can select from the menu board with a variety of additions. You can also order your sandwich with chicken or turkey substitutions for the same sandwiches. The fries are meaty and the skin-on variety. You can imagine they are healthier for you as you gobble them down. At least that’s what I tell myself. A self serve sandwich dressing station contains the lettuce, tomato, pickles, peppers, and a variety of condiments to dress out your sandwich, which I prefer… that way you can use as little or as much as you require. For the small price tag(7.50 ish), the combo meal is a sandwich, fries and drink. They have Red Crème soda on tap, which is something you can’t find everywhere. For those of you who prefer an adults-only quiet dinner experience, you may want to avoid Sunday and Monday nights at this store. Kids eat free with purchase of one sandwich. I know that nothing can wreck an beef ingesting experience more than a table of screaming kids. Tuesday is $ 5 sandwich night according to a posted sign.

So disappointed. They pitch themselves as the philly-cheese place, but mine was dry and not delicious. Staff was nice, but I’d have to hear some fantastic things to give them another try.

We tried this place out because they advertised rice bowls, and my wife and I love rice bowls. Well, they barely had rice bowls. The portions were small, though the food tasted ok. Our biggest issue was the large amount of work it took to order the food. The cashier was somewhat incompetent and the cook had to come up and help her complete our order. Then the cook didn’t understand what we wanted. We had to repeat ourselves at least four times. Don’t get me wrong, they were nice, but it took about 15 minutes just to order the food.

I am surprised that with how often I have been coming to KC I have yet to eat here. I had the Zephyr which is a cheese-steak with cheese, onions, and mushrooms. I really liked the bread — crispy on the outside chewy on the inside. This was definitely not a neat sandwich to eat but is worth every drip. I am glad I only ordered the sandwich with a drink — a combo would have been a bit much for me.

This place has some hype that has carried it. I dunno what happened to them. About 10 years ago I would have told you to get a Rock Island or Zephr with the peanut oil fries and a shake and you were set. Now the fries are maybe worse than Oreda. They kinda remind me of the crappy fries Hardees started pulling on me in the late 80’s.(Hardees now has some fab curly fries though) The shakes are no longer real. Some crappy MickeyDs machine now. The Philly steaks are still decent but they just seem a little less. Maybe the fry and shake situation has clouded my assessment of the Philly Steaks. I dunno I used to love this place. Now I just see disappointment. Might as well go to the mall for The Great Steak Company.
