In an effort to help my mother secure an apartment while she was in the hospital I worked with Heather to place a deposit on a residence that could possibly suit her requirements. At that time I was informed that the deposit would be refundable as long as requested within 3 days. My uncle then went to view the location and informed me that it would not work. I promptly requested a refund. Heather completely understood and took my information, given the check should be cut to me, not my mother since I had placed the deposit with the expectation that the process could be up to 2 – 3 weeks. That was acceptable and we parted ways. This was the end of June. Fast forward to the end of July and since I had not seen a check I called back asking for an update and I was told it was possible that they cut the check to my mother and her, unattended address. This was understandable but we had not seen any check at the residence either so I asked again, explicitly, that they send the check to me in San Francisco since I had provided the deposit. Again, Heather completely understood and was very professional about the situation. Another 3 weeks went by and still nothing… by this time I had plans to travel back to the mid-west to coordinate moving my mothers belongings into storage since she was still in the hospital. So I figured I would wait it out, because I have my own life. Upon my arrival, still no check was received at either my residence on the West Coast or at the address the corporate office claimed to have sent the check. I didn’t have time to drop in on them and figured I would wait out. I then called again and spoke with a new individual; Vicky, whom then informed me that she would look into it and call me back. Unsurprisingly I received no call. I’ve since then called back again and at first Vicky was fine but after a while, became more agitated that I couldn’t understand that someone could have made a mistake. Seriously, she kept repeating that. I’m not sure why. Heather was very precise in all of our conversations, I doubt she misunderstood anything I said. I calmly explained that I had requested and confirmed the address and my phone number at each instance of my request in this situation. She also referenced a manager, Amy, that was ‘looking into it’ but for some reason, was not able to speak to me directly. And then insisted that the check was mailed to the address to which I told them to not send it to. At this point she told me I should track it with the post office, I asked if the item had been sent with a tracking number… she indicated that it was not. So I politely informed her that it was unlikely that the post office would be able to tell me anything about this parcel any more than another envelope which would have been delivered to the address without tracking. She did not like this at all. Had I kept talking, I suspect she would have hung up on me. I have moved forward with my credit card company to dispute the charges since I seem to be getting nowhere with their team at this location. Bottom line; I personally have never seen this place nor met any of these individuals, but considering the manager is too busy to talk to someone about a refund of a deposit placed ~3 months ago I would be unlikely to recommend this location for rental. Heather, however, was great in every conversation. Thanks Heather.
