After eating at everyones favorite culinary wrecking ball that is Shady Maple, do you know what my favorite thing to do is? Why go shop for food of course and a great place not too far away is Stoltzfus Produce. Now Stoltzfus is located only a few miles away from Maple and a good landmark to use to find it is Hayloft Candles because Stoltzfus is across the street from Hayloft. Now the stuff here in the summer is fresh. Now when I say fresh I mean fresh as in if you are there in the morning you can be there when the horse drawn cart brings in that days new watermelons, cantaloupes, peaches, etc. that was either picked that morning or the afternoon before. They run the gambit here from baked goods like shoofly pie and whoopee pies made with lard to vegetables like peppers, squash, tomatoes, and corn to the aforementioned fruit. Our favorites are the five pound bags of potatoes that sell for $ 1.75 or the large cantaloupes and watermelons which are normally $ 2.00-$ 2.50. Naturally this place is cash only just don’t expect to get any in depth answers about the products as the women who work the stand are not exactly the most outgoing to us Englishmen. But don’t let that deter you from getting better tasting and fresher produce then you could ever get at any supermarket. Stoltzfus is open seasonally from April to early November. Naturally, they’re closed on Sundays.
