I am so sorry that Scappa’s closed. The pizza — hearth fired — thin crisp crust — was the best tasting pizza in the neighborhood, and their homemade desserts(particularly the chocolate torte with raspberry filling) were out of this world. The cake layers of the torte were as dense as a «flourless chocolate cake» surrounding a thick fruity layer of raspberry filling. I hope that the owner reopens one day at another nearby location. I’ve been in mourning for that torte since the shuttered their business.

No surprise the place is closed. It’s been going downhill for the past year. Ciao Scappa!

This place is a hidden favorite gem of ours. It’s BYO, and very friendly atmosphere. The nice dining room is in the back after walking past the mouthwatering pizzas and authentic brick oven. We’ve always had impeccable service and delicious food. We have introduced many friends and family to scappa and love everything with the meatballs and broccoli rabe with sausage being at the top of the list.

I really wanted to like this restaurant. I studied the menu before we went, and my mouth watered for true Italian; a place that understood Sunday«gravy». We were ready last Mondaynight, but apparently they WERENOT! We walked up to the door at 7:00 and the sign said open, but the door was locked. We knocked on the window & someone, came up to the door, opened it, and said we could come in & eat, but the chef had left due to a family emergency. We had called first, drove the half hour and were disappointed. Very disappointed! So we went again a week later. The place looks like an old, worn out 1970’s pizza take out plae, but has a a dining room in the back… old, dirty, and unattractive. It took at least 10 minutes to be acknowledged & asked if we wanted drinks. I asked for water with lemon, and was told they had none. Asked for lime & told they had no «citrus». I asked how the chef could mKe chicken piccata & was told he had the liquid. Bad start. Asked about specials, got no prices. Asked about the soup, and of the two, they had one, Pasta Fagiole, which I like, and was told everything was made to order. I asked if it was thick, like a bean soup, and told it was. Long story shortened… my husband heard the one waitress mention bolognaise’ which was NOT on the menu. She said that there’s used all of the different meats, veal, beef, & pork. I asked, «like a true bolognaise, with carrots, and a touch of cream?» and she said yes! She asked my husband if he’d like meatballs or sausage on the side, and he ordered Italian sausage. When it came, it didn’t even look like meat sauce! We called her over, and she said, I kid you not, «he uses the essence of the flavors and their all puréed into the sauce!» They were out of everything, we were told, 20 minutes after ordering. They had no shrimp! For my angel hair with shrimp & vodka sauce. I was ready for the food, not a status report! They were also out of PORK! «Because it’s two days before Valentines Day.» The service was dismal! A half hour wait for the soup — remember, it’s «made to order!» When it came, it was a bowl of chicken soup with large pieces of celery & carrots and chicken with a few pieces of pasta & a few beans… lousy. There were also tables left with dirty dishes’ since she was too harried complaining to clear them. The food portion, which was now crab meat with vodka sauce, was huge! At least ½ lb of boxed angel hair, but sauce for a side dish. I asked for more sauce, but by the time it Camembert the pasta was cold, & I was ready to leave. BTW, the next night, it was delicious! Lots of crab & the vodka sauce was spot on. Such a shame. The lack of ambiance, the old, dirty looking room(an open area for trays of dirty dishes & rags to clean off tables, right next to the. Soda machine & glasses, etc. As I said! Really wanted to like this place & had a lot more to say about it two weeks ago, but have now forgotten. Unfortunately, we have a second«Double Take Deals» coupon to be used by the end of March, so we’ll have to go back. I’ll give it an update… But, if I’m smart. We’ll go and order $ 40.00 worth of pizza & a few appetizers, and take the pizza home for the freezer. After all, the lousy service, and atmosphere can’t kill a great pizza?! I just hope they can get it right next time. I really wanted to like this place — their menu looked sooo good, but sadly…

Ive tried to like this place but can’t seem to get there. My fiancéé and I bought a promo pack for buy one get one entrees at local restaurants, Scappa included, and decided to have New Years dinner there. First, we were told that we couldnt use the promo card for New Years dinner. Okay, thats understandable, they had a special 3 course menu for the holiday so the card wouldnt apply. We opted for the appetizer which was decent. The waitress came to clear our table to get ready for our steak entrees, except she left our dirty silverware on the table to be reused. Whatever, I was hungry and ready for my entrée. We both got the steaks, medium, with mashed potatoes. Nice big steak, ready to dive in. Not sure what cut of steak it was, but damn was it tough! Once I managed to saw through the first slice, it was pretty much rare. Considering how tough it already was, I didnt want to send it back to be cooked longer for fear it would return worse than it was. Since it was hard to chew I continued to wash it down with my soda, which I finished rather quickly and waited a while until the waitress finally returned to refill it. A few more minutes passed as I watched other tables getting their drinks refilled before mine(not sure how that happened). I decided to just stop eating and get the steak boxed up, hoping I could doctor it up later on with some eggs for breakfast or something. We also boxed the dessert up to go and waited for our check since we were now running late for our movie. Final tab with included 20% gratuity, $ 102. I can understand some of these things when a place is busy on a holiday with a special menu… but the place wasnt nearly full, and the cook even had time to come out and talk for 10 minutes with a table. Ok, its now 2 weeks later… we figure now would be a good time to use the gift card that we also got for Christmas. We head over at 8pm, not sure when they close since Facebook says 9pm and Unilocal says 10pm… we walk in the door and were told they were closed. Why? Because they ran out of too many items were told… on a Wednesday?! Hows that happen? Well, not sure I want to make a 3rd attempt at this point. Anyone wanna buy a gift card?

This was a very disappointing visit. No one greeted us. Stood at dining room entrance for 10 minutes with no acknowledgements. Then seated three of us waited just under 20 minutes for a beverage order to be taken. Ordered the Caprese Salad. The server a mature red head big woman said that since tomatoes are not in season it is served with roasted red peppers. Really, I guess since tomatoes are not in season the sauce or «gravy» as they insist is red from food coloring or canned. The table had no knifes, no salt & pepper and a fresh stain on the table cloth. Then the food came, well us two gentlemen’s food came the lady’s came out 10 minutes later. The server could not remember who ordered what so she called an auction to see who ordered what. My fettuccine Alfredo had undercooked pasta chewy and dry. The taste was good and there was plenty of peas and prosciutto. Our server never stopped back. We had to flag her down and everyone’s drink was empty. This is not the norm. I am going to rethink a return visit.

So disappointed with a take out order. Italian hoagie had no cheese! Poorly trained unfriendly staff. Avoid this place, it is over priced and over rated.

If you want to try authentic Italian food with a twist, this is the place to go. Everything from the seafood pasta to the pizza was amazing. A nice low key atmosphere and great staff. Will be coming back.

Get the risotto of the day(del giorno)! It’s always amazing and as a mostly vegetarian, I appreciate their accommodations. Sous Chef, Casey, has made it many times for me with extra veggies and fish. I’ve never had a bad meal here and when you enter the restaurant, you are hit with the smell of pizzas baking in the beautiful brick ovens. As you pass the open kitchen on your way to the dining room in the back, be sure to wave to the cooks on the line(they can’t hear you well due to the exhaust fans) and hang your coat to the left near the bathrooms. It feels like you’re eating at an Uncle’s place in Italy. My friends have had parties there and they were fantastic!

First time dining at Scappa. Some positives, the bread on the table is delicious and very rustic. The family portion option is a nice choice to have. The chicken parm was delicious. The staff seems to know their guests and are very friendly. Some negatives, they have no soup until November. With limited salad dressing choices and soup choices on the menu, I would have liked soup. Our order did not come as we had specified but our waitress immediately noticed this and took it away to be fixed. This ended up being an over 2.5 hour meal which was not expected. The cheesecake is definitely homemade Italian style, but I’m not its worthy of the $ 7.50 per slice price tag. I got an Italian hoagie to go and it was light on the meat. Like my meal, it wasn’t how I ordered it(had oil and vinegar) and ended up not being eaten. Summary: you will have a great waitress, a long wait, And expect to send something back if you have any special request.

Last night wasn’t Scappa’s shining moment. The food was delicious, although one dish. .a specially prepared gluten free meal had to go back because it was cold. No complaints with the food at all. We waited quite awhile for it, but we were in no hurry… It was Saturday night what is the hurry? The problem seems to be organization. There was not enough wait staff for the full dining room. Our server Joseline was more than competent & very helpful. Unfortunately they had her assigned to other duties & rarely appeared in the dining room. One very handsome young man was tasked with bringing out the food & was either very new or poorly trained. We watched him walk around in circles for several minutes not knowing where to take a plate with french fries. He seemed to not know where to go and had no one to ask. I’m sure those fries were cold when they landed. He brought hot bread with no butter. By the time he brought the butter, the bread was no longer hot. Coffee came without spoons & ice tea came without sweetener/sugar. I want Scappa’s to succeed. The food is wonderful. I’m rating 3 starts for 5 star food because it isn’t a smooth experience. Last night someone apparently used a wrong product to wash the floor & walking was treacherously dangerous… even the table slid every time you leaned against it. A 2 star experience probably. Get a consultant in to help organize. Reduce the number of specials. Don’t assign dining room people to pizza front of the house tasks. Do somethingabout the floor. Count on me to keep coming & to cheer you on!

We tried this place last night and was very disappointed with the service. We were greeted by what appeared to be a customer that took us to a table. As we were walking to the table we nearly fell down on the slippery floor(not sure what was going on there). The wait was unbelievable for the food. I had to call the waitress over just to order the food. The waitress was very rude ignored us like we were never there. By the time my food came out it was cold. The staff seem very unorganized and and need to work on customer service skills. The food wasn’t that bad but if you are in a hurry I would not recommend.

We had dinner here Father’s Day. Service was great and the food was so good. We ordered fried mozzarella, it was homemade. Caesar salad was delicious. For dinner we had rigatoni with meatballs in gravy and chicken Parmesan. The meatballs are flavorful & tender. The gravy is excellent. But the chicken Parmesan, order this, it was the best I’ve ever had and my husband was salivating over it. Chicken parm all day long.

I posted in my tip section that I would possibly give Scappa a second try but… since we’ve been waiting for our check for at least 30 minutes I am reconsidering. The cannoli was delish & earned them the second star. Here’s what we had issues with: Slow slow slow service Waitress was overwhelmed Food was over-priced & mediocre Salad had brown spots Two baskets of bread. One was plain & other buttered/oiled with grated cheese. Veal was burnt in places It took so long to get the check I was able to write this review.

Last night was out third trip. Scappa did not disappoint. We had the chicken wings w/apple balsamic reduction! They are delicious! We also had the bubble bread w/roasted red peppers &balsamic reduction. Love that too! My wife always orders the fried zucchini. Great crunchy breading served w/marinara. We all had one of the many Italian specialties. Chicken Marsala. Ravioli, Pasta and even Lamb Porterhouse special. The house salad is very flavorful. Great selection of desserts! This BYOB Italian restaurant is fantastic! Last time we had the Brooklyn Pie… one of my favorite pizzas. This restaurant is in Levittown, near Pennsbury HS. A bit out of the way, but well worth the trip!

Scappa is in a location where even though the shopping center is nice I think most people just pass it by but DON’T. Oh my gosh… the BESTBROOKLYNPIE ever… we’ve tried it with and without extra cheese and since we are mozzarella lovers we always get extra cheese. We have also had the veggie pie but the Brooklyn Pit blows the veggie out of the water. My only issue is we have been charged different amounts for the same things… but the past two times have been consistent so we haven’t brought it up to the owners yet. SOOOOGOOD! Pizza is usually a thing we get for dinner just when we can’t think of anything else… now it’s something I look forward too!

This place blew me away. From the menu, I expected great things, but as we pulled up I changed my opinion. From the outside, it looks like a little hole in the wall pizza shop. That’s exactly what I expected, but was completely wrong. We walked in and had to walk all the way back to the dining area. It felt like an entirely different restaurant than what we had walked through. The waitress was a bit snobby at first, she quickly warmed up, and after that all was good with service. The rest of our experience overrides the momentary snobby attitude. The waitress brought us bread that was amazing. Imagine a cut up Brooklyn Pizza with extra garlic… yummy! Then the salads came out, we ordered family style, so everyone in the party should have gotten a salad, but my fiancée did not get his. No big deal, he was okay without it. The dressing on the salad was amazing. I can’t describe what it tasted like, but it was well worth the calories. I ordered the Frangelica Chicken, I would order it 100 times over! It was absolutely amazing. It had walnuts, grapes, and spinach on it. I asked for the sauce without the cream, they were able to accommodate it. In fact, it was so good without the cream in it I couldn’t imagine the dish with a cream sauce. The sweet potato fries were amazing. Honestly, I expected some frozen type of fries, but when the dish we ordered came out, the fries were fresh and hot. They were hand cut and super delicious. My dad described them to taste like a sweet potato pie in fry form. Overall, this restaurant is awesome, and we will be back again!

Wow. Hidden behind the pizzeria is a very nice dining room. You can smell the brick oven as soon s you pull into the parking lot. It is a BYOB which is fine with me. The menu is extensive, took me a little while to choose the penne pasta with a side of meatballs. All entrees are served with a house salad and bread. My serving of pasta was ridiculously large. Most entrees are available in family style as well, I verified that I had received the single serving. Everything was delicious. Not too salty. The meatballs were perfect and topped with«gravy»(what they call their marinara) and cheese. Needless to say I took a lot home, also not a bad thing. Our server was great. Very professional and attentive. The management checked in during our meal which I think is important. I will definitely be back, but may share an entrée next time! Check in and get a free cannoli for dessert!

Great place for Italian food. I’ve heard everything is made fresh right there. I’m particularly fond of the lasagna. But they have many topnotch options. Their tomato sauce it heavenly. The wait staff can be less-than-stellar at times. During one visit, after being seated for over 10 minutes, I had to get the hostess to have someone serve us. But overall, love the place.

I went for a late lunch with friends today who were up from DC. It looks like a pizzeria when you first enter, but the dining room is in the back and it’s quite nice. Our server, Christian, was very attentive and professional. He fresh mozzarella and roasted peppers were dynamite. Perfect with the Chianti I brought. The calamari wasn’t what it was expecting. I’m partial to lightly floured and fried with tomato sauce for dipping. This version had a brown sauce drizzled on it and it had hot peppers. It was good, but I’m a traditionalist. The salad was OK, nothing special. Entrees were very generous in size. Even the children’s chicken fingers and fries were more than Gio could handle. Everyone needed a take home container except for me. The cannolis were fresh and had a cinnamon cheese filling. Different, but good! All in all a very satisfying meal at a reasonable price!
