Don’t go out of your way for this place. The food is just okay. We tried the brisket, ribs, and turkey for meats. Nothing special. Sides were not really anything to rave about.

I believe that 5-star ratings should be rare — reserved for restaurants with both great food and exceptional service. They don’t have to be fancy, but they have to be great value! Big Jack’s BBQ in Lewisville is just that. From the outside, it’s quirky at best — you’ll find a smoker(usually full of incredible meat) occupying the parking spot right in front, a few picnic benches and one of the more interesting exteriors you’ll find anywhere. Even once you walk through the door, you’ll question your decision, but keep going because it gets really good. Jose or Saul will welcome you from behind the counter and you’ll immediately know you’ve found one of those«holes in the wall» that will keep you coming back. Ordering is simple: just decide if you want a sandwich or a plate, and the type of meat you want. If you choose a plate, you can pick 1, 2 or 3 meats. Everything comes with two sides that you’ll self-serve cafeteria style. The 3-meat plate is a lot of food, but it’s also a great way to sample the various choices. The smoked brisket and chicken is served sliced or chopped, and the pulled pork literally falls apart it’s so tender. There are two types of sausage: regular and jalapeño, and both are excellent. The jalapeño is not too spicy, but it’s a nice change. My son is a ribs connoisseur and he loves the ribs here. All of the meats are some of the best BBQ I’ve eaten anywhere — not dry, tender and smoked to perfection. The sides are very good as well. There are 11 to choose from and everyone will find something they like. The fried okra is especially great and Saul will make sure you have a nice fresh order if you ask! There are also 4 types of salads that are an option. Every meat plate comes with a warm roll or slice of Texas toast to ensure your plate is loaded! I’m a lifelong fan of sausage and both of their selections are really good — thin skin and really tasty. As much as I love the sausage, the smoked chicken is the best I’ve eaten in the last 25 years. Everyone I’ve told, seems to agree. It’s incredible! My family loves BBQ and across the board, every meat they serve gets top reviews. They’re a Pepsi establishment and of course serve Dr. Pepper and great sweet iced tea. Their BBQ sauces(regular, sweet and spicy) are just as good as everything else they serve.(Try a mix of the sweet and spicy — it’s a great compliment to the meat. And don’t forget to throw on a half jalapeño, with the seeds! To finish-off your meal, there’s a complimentary soft-serve ice cream machine where you can make a cone or a dish.(I don’t see many customers going for the ice cream, which is understandable considering how generous the meat portions are. We try to go every week. They make you feel like family and you feel really good about supporting a business run by such great guys. Most of the customers seem like regulars and the atmosphere is just what you’d expect from a Texas BBQ joint. Plan on spending about $ 12 per person and you can find their coupons in the various local mailers. They’re a BYOB establishment, which makes them an even greater value. I’d call this the best BYOBBBQ restaurant in the DFW area. It’s like eating great BBQ at home, but most of us can’t cook meat like they can!

We were out and about exploring for the weekend and ran across Jacks. The brisket was very tender and quite taste. My wife had the pork that was ok. We are from Memphis so we are a little bias to pulled pork but Jacks was good. The sides were good and a good variety. All the guys working were helpful and excited to let you try any of their meats. I have always been skeptical of BBQ places in strip malls but Jacks isn’t the average. It is amazing food! Must try it.

I’m pretty picky with my Bbq, but I’ve been to Jacks 3x over the past few weeks and it has moved up into my top 3 bbq in the metroplex. It’s really really good food(best sausage around) — what makes it even better is the prices for meat by the pound are 20−25% less than several other places and they are very friendly. Definitely plan on coming back.

The location might be a little sketchy, but once you walk in the restaurant, it will defiantly surprise you. The food here is good and pretty authentic for BBQ. Not my top choice, but if you live near by this place, it will settle for your smoked meat cravings.

Was looking for some good bbq that wouldn’t break the bank and was close to home. Big Jack’s was awesome. They had the smoker in the parking lot(so they getcha with the smells) and automatically made my mouth water. The menu had a nice variety, sandwiches, baked potatoes(loaded with your choice of meat, optional). Pretty tasty bbq(not amazing but tasty), sides were abundant, and equally tasty. Also have a little mini-bar of 3 different bbq sauces, onions, pickles, the crunchiness, etc. Staff was very friendly as it was our first time and made recommendations. They also have FREE ice cream. FREE! Free is great, and it was a nice little sweet treat to wrap up our meal. Will be back and recommend for a quick bbq meal!

Love this place. Friendly staff, casual no frills BBQ. The food is consistently good time after time and the price is right. Look out for their Valpak coupons for BOGO and $ 5 off $ 25. Brisket, pork, sausage, ribs, chicken all great. Jalapeño beans, okra, mac, potato casserole, fries, all good. Green beans taste a bit off for me buy can’t place why. Their spicy bbq sauce is runny but very tasty. Nice benefit, if you dine in, it’s self serve sides so cone hungry! Honestly bang for buck it’s the best BBQ around the area.

The friendliest place in town!!! Consistently good food. I really like their brisket– just the right amount of smoke and meaty not mushy.

Have been here a few times and every time we get greeted by the staff, with smiles on their faces and that right there is a huge plus that almost no restaurants have now a days. But that’s just the beginning, the cherry on top is the wonderful food! All around a great place and I will continue to go back!

DELICIOUS! The food was fresh and amazing! You have to try the turkey! Management was very helpful and outgoing. We enjoyed our experience from start to finish and will return again when we are back in Texas. Everyone should give this place a try!

Really great Barbecue. Lewisville really needs good, independent barbecue. Stopped by last night and crabbed a pound of brisket and half pound of jalapeño sausage. Brisket was tender, well cooked and had a nice light smoke flavor. A little fatty, but each price of meat is different so I won’t judge for that. Sausage was really good. Again, light smoke flavor and casing wasn’t tough. Sauce is excellent. Nice vinegar taste with some spice. It compliments their meat well. Can’t speak to sides, we fixed those at home. Great barbecue. We will be back.

Don’t let the strip center location fool you… This is an extremely high quality smokehouse! The brisket and jap sausage is excellent…(close to Hutchins level) The sides are great and they always give you a sample of whatever you’re considering… not to mention they typically give big portions so the value is there… $ 12.99/lb for just about everything. The daily specials are also excellent values… The service there is also superior… very friendly and always positive attitude :) Highly recommend, –B

I had cravings for brisket and recalled a BBQ restaurant located at a nearby strip mall. When I entered the restaurant, I was greeted by one of the friendly employees behind the counter. I noticed there were only a few customers, so I may have arrived before the dinner crowd. I opted for the two-meat dinner plate and chose the brisket and spicy sausage. For sides, I decided on the BBQ beans and potato casserole. When did loaded mashed potato started being called a casserole? I had to ask the cashier about the free bread since I couldn’t see any. The brisket was okay. It may have been tastier if I had doused it with some BBQ sauce. The sausage had a slight kick to it due to the bits of jalapeño. Although there is a soft serve machine at the premises, I decided to go elsewhere for dessert. The setup around the machine wasn’t visually appealing. If I was ever shopping at a nearby store around mealtime, I would consider stopping by for dinner. I wouldn’t seek out this restaurant if I wasn’t in the vicinity.

When he unwrapped the brisket and started showing me the awesome color and texture, I was hooked. These guys have customer service and meat down to a science which explains their amazing reviews. I bought 4 meats and sides and I’m still trying to determine which is my favorite. #hookd

This was my 2nd visit here. First time was over a year ago thanks to a Groupon. It’s OK, but I obviously didn’t remember coming here last time because I failed to write a review. Won’t be doing that again… I would have told myself to skip this place. The food is not bad, just not great. I think the best way to describe the meats is mushy. All of them! Brisket, ribs, & pulled pork… all mushy! I went right at peak lunch time too… so one can only assume that the quality was as good as it’s going to get. Hot link sausage was OK actually… I’d get that again. Sides were pretty good too. Baked beans pretty good, and the Au-gratin potatoes were especially good. The service and friendly folks serving and at the check out were flawless… super cool people. The dining area was pretty awesome too. Nice wooden tables and chairs. Not huge area, but good enough for a nice lunch crowd. A few TVs to keep you distracted as well. Overall, an OK spot to eat… but don’t go out of your way like I did… twice!

Happened to try this place yesterday with surprisingly good results. Pulled up to a smoker going right out front. Good sign! Went inside and was warmly greeted by a clean and bright interior. Also, the staff was very friendly and eager to serve us. We both had the rib plate with sides and I ordered some fries which turned out to be some good fries. Perfectly cooked. They had a couple of different sauces and this is a personal preference but I liked the spicy sauce but wish it was of a thicker consistency. Not a show stopper. One of the best things about Big Jack’s is that it isn’t as expensive as other places. Sorry, but I don’t enjoy paying $ 40 to eat off paper plates. Here you get ample portions for a reasonably priced meal.

The brisket sandwich was excellent and the people are friendly. I’m not sure where they smoke the meat. The smoker in the parking lot is just for show. There is nothing cooking in it. There is no big chimney on the restaurant. I’m guessing they use an electric smoker? Whatever they do, the meat tastes great. The sides like the beans and coleslaw leave a lot to be desired. The beans taste like out of a can sweet baked beans. The coleslaw also seems to be massed produced, generic coleslaw. Bottom line for us is that our lunch was good and reasonably priced. The place just did not have any BBQ joint atmosphere, no personality. If I am back in that area, I would give it another shot.
