The Inn On Broadway

I am giving this four stars just for the affordability and service. The front desk attendant, Sherman, was a delight. He was very kind and attentive. They actually lost our reservation but they had a couple of rooms Still available so I didn’t mind. We were in town for our anniversary, so we just needed a place to crash really. The price point was perfect and it was close to town. The room was just ok. Outdated and worn, and the bed wasn’t overly comfortable. The continental breakfast was ok, but the coffee was awful. Good thing there was a Dunkin Donuts across the street!

I’ll start with the pros.
We arrived at about 12:45pm and checkin wasn’t until 4pm. We were both exhausted from traveling with little sleep, so we called to ask how early we could check in and take a nap. The desk clerk was really friendly and said we could check in right then. We stayed in a king «suite» and my husband and I both thought the bed was really comfortable. I actually meant to pull off the sheets and look at what brand the mattress was because I want one at my house. Close to downtown if you drive. Super affordable in comparison to other hotels in the area.
Now for the cons.
There were hairs on the base of the toilet, the carpet could probably use a good cleaning or replacement altogether, the hallway smelled like farts, and before we even stepped in our room we could smell rubbing alcohol. At first it was so strong that I almost considered asking for another room but then I remembered that we checked in way early so I didn’t want to press our luck. I don’t know if this was to mask the smell of something comparable to the hallway stench, but over time the alcohol smell faded and the room never smelled bad. The room could use a facelift; paint was chipping, some of the ceiling was sagging, and the carpet was bunched up in some of the corners. Internet worked better when I turned wifi off on my phone.
The next morning, sometime after 7am, the alarm clock started going off with the sound of static and woke me up — I turned my sleep app on my phone the night before but set a 15 minute timer so the next morning I woke up thinking «how is that app still going?!» Our phone alarms were set for 8 but we didn’t even touch the alarm clock in the room because we always use our phones. It wasn’t the end of the world but annoying for sure.
I wish I had read the reviews before booking. I wanted to help boost the reviews but honestly the cons outweigh the pros and despite the comfy bed, I don’t think I would stay here again.

This used to be a nice hotel, but it’s gone way downhill, and I have stayed there for my last time. That sentiment was shared by the two other members of our party that had rooms as well. The rooms stank, all were poorly maintained, linens were unclean, and those were the good points. Pictures posted to show some of the issues, but the smell just can’t be captured, thank goodness!

I stayed here with my brother a few weeks ago when he was presenting at a conference in Lexington — according to him it cost about $ 100 a night, which is absolutely ridiculous (luckily he was reimbursed). First off, his bed only had two legs holding it up — the bottom of the bed was being held up by a pile of bricks and a plank of wood (I posted pictures of this). He said he was nervous all night that it would collapse. We also found an LED flashlight and an open, but thankfully unused, condom under his bed — so you know they clean really well. The TV was for some reason difficult to use, but the free Wifi worked well. The shower knob had a spectrum of hot to cold using colors which I found pretty cool. So at least there were two good things with this place.
In short, if you like to start your day off with a depressing breakfast after spending the night in a questionably-​cleaned room with inconvenient outlets and way too many pictures of horses (welcome to Lexington), then check it out. At least it looks nice on the outside?

This is an overpriced Motel 6 with lazy employees.
Called ahead (cuz we’d be arriving around 8PM) to ask if our 3 rooms could be together in a block or close together. Front desk stated it’s first come, first serve and based upon when you check-​in. Wow was our group’s response to each other.
Room:
Sheets were so thin that you could tear them if you stretched them too far. Mattress was worn and old but do-​able for a night, 2 max.
Towels: Not big plush towels. Just enough to do the trick but a few were so thin in our room that we accidentally tore them while trying to dry off after showering.
Amenities (if you can call them that):
Free internet is spotty at best. Get the feeling that a router or modem is behind the front desk and further you are away from center of building, the weaker the signal.
Free breakfast — not a lot of variety. 4 generic cereals, plain or blueberry bagels, a few muffins, few oranges & bananas. Apple & orange juices.
Free business center — a desk with computer and printer next to the front desk.
Toilets: 1 of our toilets’ tank did not fill. Front desk said he didn’t know and had to wait til morning. Another toilet had a bad odor coming up each time you flush like something was stuck down there. By 2^nd night, it backed up and front desk was plunging our toilet.
Elevator: Wreaked so bad that we opted to take the stairs — even with our bags.
Have an emergency? Hope there is no wait at front desk. This is the only person on duty after 9PM so if he/​she can’t/won’t fix it, it ain’t getting fixed.
Best part: They have a Rite-​Aid next door to booze up and forget where you are staying.

So I’m the second to review. What a difference 2 years makes.
I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels over the years, from the most humble to the grandest. This tops the list. That is, the list of «Dirtiest, broken down, appalling» hotels.
This probably was a nice place, once upon a time. Then, whoever owns it seemed to quit caring — too bad. So, relegated to unsuspecting travelers (like me), college kids and who-​knows-​who else, this property slowly settles into the dust they can’t seem to keep up with.
We asked to see another room; perhaps it was the one we were in. A kind night clerk showed us another which was modestly cleaner, but had the oddity of the outlet for the nightstand lamp and clock being behind a bolted on headboard – inaccessible. Since I like a lamp beside the bed and even an alarm clock, I passed on moving. Sigh.
Rooms are worn out; huge dirt and dust issues, beds worn out (kinda goes with the place), linens with stains, hair and holes, a Continental breakfast from some small, sad continent other than our own. The website brags about recent renovation; don’t know who did it, but there’s construction shortcuts aplenty, and the place is falling apart.
Upsides? Certainly cheap, some pretty friendly staff that seems to have boarded the same «Oh, well» bus that the owners and property managers are on.
So, the room’s under $ 70 a night, which is certainly lower than the nearby national hotel chains, and like others, I thought I’d save a few bucks after reading some reviews here on Unilocal and elsewhere that were generally positive. Lesson learned: Those reviews are a couple years old, and it’s been a hard couple of years on this old girl — she’s showing her age and she desperately needs a bath.
Avoid, unless you like roughing it.

For the price we paid to stay in this amazing inn, it made me mad how much money I spend living in LA every day!
We stayed in a suite here, and this suite was only $ 65 a night! Complete with a mini fridge, coffee maker, a sitting room with love seats and chairs and a desk, the bedroom with a king size bed and large tv, and the bathroom with plenty of space and a whirlpool tub!!! You would have to pay an east $ 200-​$ 300 at least in LA for a room the size of this, and for a room with all of these amenities. Oh ya and free wireless and continental breakfast too with coffee and pastries and cereal and bagels.
The bed is so comfortable, and the room so spacious and relaxing, but the only downside to this place, is the fact that it isn’t really located anywhere near anything other than a few fast food restaurants. There is a pool and a bar in the hotel next door which I guess they have an agreement with to let the guests of the inn on broadway use, so that is also a nice feature, especially for once it gets warmer. They told us that this place fills up for the annual races each year, and it is located really close to the red mile racetrack too.
Great buy as long as you have a car to get you places from there!
